Church Disciplines During Lent
The Church calls for days of abstinence and fasting during Lent:
Abstinence from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays during Lent and Good Friday
for those aged 14 and older;
Fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for those aged 18 to 59. Fasting is
de-fined as eating only one full meal. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may
be taken according to one’s needs.
Those who are not obliged to fast or abstain from meat are encouraged to join in those
disciplines to the extent that they are able.
Catholics are urged to regard the Lenten Season as a serious time for spiritual
renewal by intensifying prayer, practicing works of piety, and seeking out
opportunities for charity.

CHRISM MASS
During this solemn celebration once a year, the bishop blesses three oils—the oil of catechumens, the oil of the infirm, and the Holy Chrism—which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the dioceses for the year. Since the bishop is the only minister in the diocese who may consecrate Chrism, this Mass highlights his ministry and our union with him. He will not baptize, confirm, or anoint everyone in the parishes of our Dioceses, but he will be symbolically present in the oils which the priests and deacons will use. As our bishop blesses these three oils at the Chrism Mass, let us pray for our bishop and the priests that they may be the humble and generous servants of the Lord. All are invited to attend this celebration of unity of our Diocese on Tuesday, March 27 at 6:30pm at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine.
La Misa de Crisma es una solemne celebración en la cual cada año el obispo bendice los tres aceites—para los catecú-menos, para los enfermos y para el Santo Crisma—la Diócesis usa estos aceites en la administración de los sacramentos durante el año. Como el obispo es el único ministro en la diócesis para la consagración de Crisma, esta Misa marca su ministerio y nuestra unión con el. What does it mean to be God’s people? It means we recognize that everything we have and everything we are belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It means we are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for our neighbors and the world, just as God cares for us.

"Seré su Dios y ellos serán mi pueblo". - JEREMÍAS 31:33
¿Qué significa ser el pueblo de Dios? Significa que reconocemos que todo lo que tenemos y todo lo que somos le pertenece a Dios. No somos "dueños" de nada, somos simplemente "administradores" de los dones que Dios nos ha dado. Significa que estamos dispuestos a usar nuestros dones y nuestras vidas para cuidar a nuestros vecinos y al mundo, así como Dios se preocupa por nosotros.
La Segunda colecta del próximo fin de semana es para brindar apoyo de los pobres con cosas esenciales para vivir, como despensas de comida, con pagos de electricidad, agua y casos de emergencia. Gracias por su generosidad y su continuo cuidado a las necesidades del pueblo de Dios.
Next weekend’s second collection is for our support of the Poor with food, financial help with utilities, medication, and emergency support. Thank you for your continued generous care for God’s people in need.

We are pleased to rejoice with the family of Alisha Rene Chavez who celebrated her quinceanera last weekend. We pray that you and your family will continue to trust in the Lord's love for you as you grow into a young woman of faith. We celebrate with Jesus Hipolito & Guadalupe Claudio and Guadalupe Garcia & Martha Lopez who recently celebrated the sacrament of Holy Matrimony in our parish. We pray God's blessings on you -- that through the ups and downs of your married lives you will remain faith-filled and serve as a witness for each of us to live faithfully our commitments in Christ.
We mourn with the families of Alicia Cantu, Y ahaira Rodriguez and Diamantina Maldonado who celebrated funeral rites from our parish last week. We ask God's blessing on you as you grieve -- that our Lord would bless you abundantly and help your families walk in faith with our Lord who grieves with you.
