***Note: Color words are adjectives (describing words). In Spanish, an adjective must agree with the noun (person, place, or thing) that’s being described. Therefore, all color words that end in the letter “o” need to be changed to end in the letter “a” if a feminine noun is being described. Ex. La casa es blanca. Additionally, if the noun being described is plural, we must also make the color word plural. Ex. Las casas son blancas. Color words that end in letters other than “o” are neutral. They simply need to be made plural if necessary.

Él baña he bathes Ellos bañan they bathe (boys or mixed) Ella baña she bathes Ellas bañan they bathe (girls only) Ud. baña you (formal) bathe Uds. bañan you all bathe

 Note: The previous words: to watch, to talk, to bathe etc. are all verbs.

 A verb is an action word.

 In Spanish, verbs that mean “to_________” end in the letters “ar, er , ir”.

 In order to say “ I talk” we must change the ending letters of the word “to talk”. Therefore we drop the “ar” and make it an “o”. The new word, hablo, means “I talk” Look at the underlined verb endings above to see the patterns.

Comer=to eat

Yo como I eat Nosotros(as) comemos we eat Tú comes you eat

Él come he eats Ellos comen they eat (boys or mixed) Ella come she eats Ellas comen they eat (girls only)

Él lee he reads Ellos leen they read (boys or mixed) Ella lee she reads Ellas leen they read (girls only)

Ud. lee you (formal) read Uds. leen you all read

If you look at the verbs comer and leer, you will notice that they are “er” verbs. Because of this, their endings begin with the letter “e” except in the “yo” form. In other words, “er” verb endings are the same as “ar verb endings except we use the letter “e” instead of the letter “a” for the first letter of each ending.

*Hacer=to do/to make

*Yo hago I do/make Nosotros(as) hacemos we do/make Tú haces you do/make

Él hace he does/makes Ellos hacen they do/make (boys or mixed) Ella hace she does/makes Ellas hacen they do/make (girls only)

Ud. hace you (formal) do/make Uds. hacen you all do/make

Although the verb hacer is an “er” verb and uses the same verb endings as leer and comer, it is slightly irregular (it doesn’t follow the pattern completely) in the “yo” form. Notice the letter “c” in the stem changed to the letter “g”.

Escribir=to write

Yo escribo I write Nosotros(as) escribimos we write Tú escribes you write

Él escribe he writes Ellos escriben they write (boys or mixed) Ella escribe she writes Ellas escriben they write ( girls only) Ud. escribe you (formal) write Uds. escriben you all write

Él duerme he Ellos duermen they sleep (boys or mixed) Ella duerme she sleeps Ellas duermen they sleep (girls only)

Ud. duerme you (formal) sleep Uds. duermen you all sleep

Notice that “ir” endings, as in “escribir and dormir:, are the same as “er” endings except the “we/nosotros” form is “imos” instead of “emos”.

Also note that “dormir” is a stem changing verb. It does not follow the normal pattern. The “o” in “dormir” changes to “ue” except in the “we”.
