St. Joseph, Patron of the

Universal Church

Hello Everybody, I am glad to reach with a message; We are halfway through our Lenten Journey, while the church reminds us to focus on the important person in the salva-tion history, who is none other than St. Joseph. As we are aware, the month of March is dedicated to St. Joseph. In fact, the gospel talks about him a very little but his life enumerates various elements, particularly, Pope Francis has mentioned seven roles of St. Joseph in his Apostolic Letter (PATRIS CORDE). They ar e as follows:

1. A beloved Father: St. J oseph r emains a beloved father by sacrificing his whole life for the wellbeing of Jesus and Mary. Particularly, he offered his heart, his abilities, love and every-thing for the service of Messiah.

2. A tender and loving Father: Absolutely, St. Joseph should have gone to the Synagogue in order to practice his religion, where he could have heard the compassionate love of God. Of course, he didn’t stop with that, instead he practiced it in his life and he taught his son Jesus to learn about it more. In addition, the tender love permits to accept our own weakness and our own frailty.

3. An obedient Father: We find in the gospel that St. J oseph was instructed by God in a dream. He too obeyed completely what God said to him. Therefore, he is called by God to serve the mission of Jesus directly through the exercise of his father-hood.

4. An Accepting Father: In the moder n wor ld, we encounter various types of violence but in the case of St. Joseph, it is total-ly different. He remained respectful and sensitive man by not harming Mary or putting her in any kind of trouble. Specifical-ly, he accepted personal responsibility and he encouraged all to show special concerns for the weak as well.

5. A Creatively courageous Father: This title per tains to the difficulties that St. Joseph encountered in his life, while he did-n’t run away instead, he deliberately withstood to meet chal-lenges. Hence, he is considered a special patron for the migrants and also for those who leave their countries for any reasons. 6. A working Father: As far as our under standing, St. J o-seph was a carpenter who worked hard to look after the family. Through him, the work is a means of participating in the work of salvation and of bringing dignity and prosperity to humanity. Today, he remains as an exemplary patron of workers.

7. A father in the shadows: St. J oseph is called an earthly shadow of the heavenly father because he watched Jesus and protected him but, never left Jesus to go astray. Thus, he found happiness not in mere self-sacrifice but in self-gift.

Beloved, therefore, St. Joseph holds various elements, charac-ters and qualities in his life, which promotes us to follow his footsteps. St. Teresa of Avila instructed her nuns to go to St. Joseph and to offer the community in his hands. Thus, let us offer ourselves, our commitments, works, our families and eve-rything to him. Absolutely, he would protect us, would inter-cede for us and would lead us to the path of eternal life. God bless all. . .

Hola a todos! Yo estoy contento para llegar con un mensaje; Estamos en medio del Camino de Cuaresma, mientras la iglesia nos recuerda que debemos dar importancia para una persona en la historia de la salvación, que no es otro que San José. Como sabemos, el mes de marzo está dedicado a San José. De hecho, el evangelio habla muy poco de él pero su vida enumera varios elementos. Particularmente, el Papa Francisco ha mencionado siete roles de San José en su Carta Apostólica (PATRIS CORDE). Son los siguientes:

1. Un padre amado: San J osé per manece como un padr e amado sacrificando toda su vida por el bienestar de Jesús y María. Particularmente, ofreció su corazón, sus habilidades, su amor y todo por el servicio del Mesías.

2. Un Padre tierno y amoroso: Absolutamente, San J osé debo haber ido a la Sinagoga para practicar su religión, donde pudo haber escuchado el amor compasivo de Dios. Por supuesto, no se detuvo con eso, sino que lo practicó en su vida y le enseñó a su hijo Jesús a aprender más sobre ello. Además, el amor tierno permite aceptar nuestra propia debilidad y nuestra propia fragilidad.

3. Un Padre obediente: Encontr amos en el evangelio que San José fue instruido en sueños por Dios. Él también obedeció completamente lo que Dios le dijo. Así, está llamado por Dios para servir la misión de Jesús directamente a través del ejercicio de su paternidad.

4. Un padre que acepta: En el mundo moder no, nos encontramos con varios tipos de violencia, pero en el caso de San José es totalmente diferente. Él permaneció como un hombre respetuoso y sensible al no dañar a Maria ni ponerla en problemas. Específicamente, aceptó la responsabilidad personal y animó a todos para mostrar una preocupación especial por los débiles.

5. Un padre valiente creativamente: Este título se r efiere las dificultades que San José encontró en su vida. Durante este tiempo, no escapó en cambio, resistió deliberadamente para enfrentar los desafíos. Por eso, se le considera un patrón especial para los migrantes y también para aquellos que abandonan sus países por cualquier motivo.

6. Un padre que trabaja: En la medida de nuestr o conocimiento, San José era carpintero que trabajó duro para cuidar de la familia. A través de él, el trabajo es un medio de participar en la obra de salvación y de traer la dignidad y la prosperidad a la humanidad. Hoy, él permanece como un patrón ejemplar de los trabajadores.

7. Un padre en las sombras: San J osé es llamado una sombra terrenal del padre celestial, porque miró a Jesús y lo protegió bien, pero nunca dejó a Jesús ir por mal camino. Así que encontró la felicidad no en el mera auto-sacrificio, sino en el auto-regalo.

Entonces, hermanos, San José tiene varios elementos, personajes y cualidades en su vida, lo que nos impulsa para seguir sus pasos. Santa Teresa de Ávila instruyó a sus monjas para ir a San José y ofrecer la comunidad en sus manos. Así, vamos a ofrecernos, nuestros compromisos, nuestros trabajos, nuestras familias y todo para él. Absolutamente nos protege, intercede por nosotros y nos conduce al camino de la vida eterna.

GOD’S MERCY

Today’s reading from the second book of Chronicles

contains a sort of “mini-history” of Israel. It highlights

God’s mercies in choosing Cyrus the Persian to be an

in-strument of deliverance when the people were in captivity

in Babylon. Despite their sinfulness and the deserved

pun-ishment they were undergoing, God’s mercy was lavished

on the people in the form of a miraculous act of liberation.

The Letter to the Ephesians, in much more theological

terms, gives a similar account of a God “who brought us

to life with Christ—by grace you have been saved.” The

author stresses that it was when we were “dead in our

transgressions” that God saved us, an act of pure grace. He

emphasizes that it is not our own efforts that freed us from

sin (“this is not from you”); rather, “it is the gift of God.”

This, of course, is the heart of the entire Pauline corpus,

that salvation comes to us by

faith in God’s mercy, revealed in

the death of Jesus.

LA MISERICORDIA

DE DIOS

La lectura de hoy del libro

de las Crónicas contiene una

especie de “breve historia” de

Israel, que pone de relieve la

misericordia de Dios en la

cautiverio en Babilonia. A pesar de su pecado y el castigo

La Carta a los Efesios, en términos mucho más

teológicos, da una versión similar de un Dios “que nos dio

la vida con Cristo y en Cristo [y] por pura generosidad

suya, hemos sido salvados”. El autor hace hincapié en que

era cuando estábamos “muertos por nuestros pecados”

que Dios nos salvó, un acto de pura gracia. Hace hincapié

en que no es nuestro propio esfuerzo que nos ha liberado

del pecado (“esto no se debe a ustedes mismos”); sino que

“es un don de Dios”. Esto, por supuesto, es el corazón de

todos los escritos paulinos, que la salvación nos llega por

la fe en la misericordia de Dios, revelado en la muerte de

Jesús.
