The Pastor’s Corner
A highlight for our parish! Last week on May 15th we celebrated our parish feast day, the annual commemoration of Saint Isidore the Farmer. Over the weekend, our inaugural parish festival marked the remembrance of Isidore and his wife Maria who embody the life of our parish in devotion and generosity.
San Isidro Labrador, as he is known in Spanish, together with Saint Joseph, husband of a much earlier Maria, embodies the practice of faithful work, work which originates in reverence for God. As our Father originally creates the world and continues to guide it today, we participate in co-creating with our God.
Here in our parish, we are grateful for the many ways we are able to share in the work of this world, predominantly in farming as did Saint Isidore. Our school and office staff as well in their faithful service build up the work of God in our community. I would like in particular to single out Helen Gomez, who has been an extraordinary blessing to Saint Isidore as our parish man-ager. Her leadership has helped our parish to flourish and to orient toward the growth our God calls us to.
This past month Helen took up a role she had spearheaded previously, assisting those seeking to join the Church in discovering the richness of our Catholic Faith. In coordinating our RCIA program, Helen returns to a first love of hers in bringing others to Jesus. As she steps away from her role as parish manager, I have asked Edison Kim to take on that responsibility. Edison joins us with years of leadership in the United States Air Force, and we are happy to have him joining the parish office.
I invite you to reach out to Helen in thanksgiving for her devoted service to the people of God, and to welcome Edison onto our team. Together with Saint Isidore and his wife Blessed Maria, we seek actively to work in service of God’s merciful love today.

¡Un punto culminante para nuestra parroquia! La semana pasada el 15 de mayo celebramos el día de nuestra fiesta parroquial, la celebración anual de San Isidro Labrador. Durante el fin de semana con la inauguración de nuestro festival de la parroquia marcamos la conmemoración de San Isidoro y su esposa Maria que personifican la vida de nuestra parroquia en devoción y generosidad.
San Isidro Labrador, junto con San José, esposo de la virgen una Maria, incorpora la práctica del trabajo fiel, trabajo que se origina en reverencia a Dios. Cuando nuestro Padre originalmente creo el mundo y continúa guiando hoy, nosotros participamos en la co-creación con nuestro Dios.
Aquí en nuestra parroquia estamos agradecidos por las muchas maneras en las que podemos tomar parte en el trabajo de este mundo, predominantemente en la agricultura como lo hizo San Isidro. Nuestro personal escolar y de oficina también con su fiel servicio construyen la obra de Dios en nuestra comunidad. En particular me gustaría mencionar a Helen Gómez, quien ha sido una bendición extraordinaria a San Isidro como nuestra administradora parroquial. Su liderazgo ha ayudado a nuestra parroquia a flo-recer y orientar hacia el crecimiento al que nuestro Dios nos llama.
Este mes pasado Helen tomó un papel que ella ya había dirigido anteriormente, asistiendo a aquellos que buscan unirse a la iglesia y descubrir la riqueza de nuestra fe católica. En la coordinación de nuestro programa de RICA, Helen regresa a un primer amor al traer a otros a Jesús. Al ella alejarse de su papel como administrador de la parroquia, yo le he pedido a Edison Kim que asuma esta responsabilidad. Edison se une a nosotros con años de liderazgo en la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos, y estamos felices que se una a la oficina parroquial.
Le invito a usted que se acerque a Helen en agradecimiento por su dedicado servicio al pueblo de Dios y dar la bienvenida Edison a nuestro equipo. Juntos con San Isidro y su esposa Santa Maria de la Cabeza, hoy buscamos activamente trabajar en servicio al amor misericordioso de Dios.

“Surgieron no pocos desacuerdos y debates”. ¿Pasó eso en el trabajo esta semana? Muchos de nosotros pueden recordar algunos roces con compañeros de trabajo, incluso con el jefe. ¿Pasó también mientras socializaba con amigos? Evita hablar de política, religión . . . incluso de deportes. ¿En casa? Incluso el hogar más pacífico experimenta un poco de “estira y afloja” de vez en cuando. Entonces ¿dónde fue que “surgieron no pocos desacuerdos y debates”? Ese tumultuoso conflicto ocurrió en medio de nuestros primeros hermanos cristianos, interrum-piendo la vida de la comunidad de la Iglesia primitiva. Pero en los Hechos de los Apóstoles muestra cuán bello es el Espíritu Santo, prometido por Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy, que ayudó a la Iglesia a lograr una decisión llena de gracia. Lo que evolu-cionó fue que la “diversidad reconciliada” frecuentemente ani-mada por el Papa Francisco e incluso previstas en el pasaje de hoy del Apocalipsis y una experiencia maravillosa del don de Jesús prometido por Jesús: “La paz les dejo, mi paz les doy”.

We will be watching and learning from Bishop Robert Barron’s DVD series “David the King.” Bishop Robert Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Minis-tries and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He is also the host of CATHOLICISM, an award-winning doc-umentary about the Catholic Faith. There will be NO cost, just one hour of your time each of these three Tuesdays. This series is in preparation for the Tuesday Evening Bible Study on the Psalms which will begin Tuesday, August 20 and end Nov 12. David is the author of many of the Psalms. There will be a Workbook for Psalms series: “Psalms, The

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Why is it still Easter? The lilies have long since faded. The roots of our tradition of fifty days of rejoicing from Easter to Pentecost lie in the seven-day rhythm of the Jewish week, drawn from the six days of creation plus a Sabbath day. A favorite name for the Lord’s Day among our ancestors in the faith was “The Eighth Day,” meaning that in Christ a breakthrough to a new humanity was achieved. With that inner architecture, it makes sense to see Pentecost as a week of weeks, forty-nine days plus one, again signaling that a new age has begun in Christ and the outpouring of his Spirit. The Jewish appreciation for Pentecost gave rise to the Jubilee year, the fiftieth year, when debts were released and prisoners set free. Today, the character of our Easter Sundays is conveyed by joyful Alleluias and the rite of sprinkling at Mass. Long ago, people expressed this joy by suspending all rules of fasting and by never kneeling at liturgy.
These customs all point to our conviction that time is holy. There is an elegant balance to the Christian year: forty days of Lenten fast and discipline give way to fifty days of unrestrained rejoicing. That’s why it is still Easter!

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Tristemente una vez que muchos latinoamericanos
llegan a los Estados Unidos es difícil regresar a sus tierras
de origen, ni siquiera para visitar. Por esta razón, muchos
pueblos latinoamericanos han construido santuarios a sus
vírgenes y santos patrones en tierra estadounidense. De
esta manera buscan estar cerca al suelo que les trajo a luz,
que les nutrió con frutas, verduras, flores, cantos,
costum-bres y tradiciones.
En Miami el pueblo cubano ha construido una ermita
dedicada a la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, cuya capilla
del Santísimo fue bendecida en la fiesta de la Ascensión
del Señor. Debajo de su altar principal se guarda una
pie-dra hecha con tierra de las distintas provincias de Cuba.
Es bello el hecho, porque de esta manera todo cubano que
se acerca al altar del Señor puede estar cerca de su terruño
aunque sea solo por un momento.
