Changes in Church Practices with Diminished Covid-19 Cases
With the recent decrease in active cases and hospitalizations related to Covid-19 in the territory of the Diocese of Laredo, beginning Saturday, June 5th, the following church practices will be in effect:
1.We can again use all the pews, so that the church can be occupied at 100% capacity. 2.The use of a facemask will remain in place for everyone until further notice.
3.The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation will remain in effect until further notice.
4.The Mass will be celebrated as was the case before Covid-19, except that at the “Sign of Peace”, it would be safest not to make physical contact with anyone besides those with whom you live. 5.Please continue to use hand sanitizer as you enter the church, and to avoid touching pews or anything unnecessarily.
6.If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, or if you had recent close contact with somebody who had the virus, or if you are especially vulnerable to the virus or you live with somebody who is, please stay home and watch the Mass by live-streaming.
Cambios en las prácticas de la iglesia con casos de Covid-19 disminuidos
Con la reciente disminución de casos activos y hospitalizaciones relacionados con Covid-19 en el territorio de la Diócesis de Laredo, a partir del sábado 5 de junio, las siguientes prácticas en la iglesia estarán vigentes: 1. Podemos volver a utilizar todas las bancas, de modo que la iglesia se pueda ocupar al 100% de su capacidad. 2. El uso de un cubre bocas permanecerá en pie para todos hasta nuevo aviso.
3. La dispensa de la obligación de asistir a Misa los domingos y días festivos de obligación permanecerá en vigor hasta nuevo aviso.
4. La Misa se celebrará como era el caso antes del Covid-19, excepto que en la “Señal de la Paz” sería más se-guro no hacer contacto físico con nadie más que con aquellos con quienes vive.
5. Continúe usando desinfectante de manos cuando ingrese a la iglesia y evite tocar las bancas o cualquier cosa innecesariamente.
6. Si tiene algún síntoma de Covid-19, o si recientemente tuvo contacto cercano con alguien que tenía el virus, o si es especialmente vulnerable al virus o si vive con alguien que lo es, favor de quédese en casa y vea la Misa por internet.

My Body / Your Body / The Mystical Body of JesusHow can different persons be united as one? This is a question we face from the beginning of our lives, when we want to be united with our parents. It is the self-giving love of our Mom and Dad which draws us to them. When we are older, we want to be united with our friends, we want them to be as close to us if we were one family. But that does not happen when one person uses the other for his/her own benefit. The unity of a healthy friendship is possible when the friends give of themselves for the sake of each other. And that is even more true when a man and a woman are united by marriage in Christ. They promise God to freely make a complete, unconditional and life-giving gift of themselves to each other. Then, with God’s blessing, “the
two become one.” In all these ways, God wants us to learn that true unity,
the unity we long for, is only possible through self-giving love.
Last week we discussed the Mystery of the Holy Trinity, the One God Who is three Divine Persons (The Father, Son and Holy Spirit), united by perfect, self-giving love. Each of us have a deep longing for unity with God and with each other because we were created in His image and likeness. But all too often, our tendency to sin creates not unity, but division. When we put our own desires above the well-being of others, when we say mean words or we treat others as mere objects for our own pleasure, then we harden our hearts to them and we become divided from them. Every sin in some way separates us from God and from those He created in His image and likeness.
Only God could pay the infinite debt we incurred by our sins, and heal our dis-unity. That is why, 2021 years ago, God-the-Son joined His divine nature to our human nature. The God Who had never known suffering or death, took on Himself a human body so that He could freely give of Himself for us completely, unconditionally and in a life-giving way. In true love, God took upon Himself a body to make possible our perfect unity with Himself and with each other. As Jesus said, “When I am lifted up
from the earth [on the Cross], I will draw all people to Myself.” (Jn. 12:32)
Jesus’ great sacrifice of love was for all people and for all time. So He left us a memorial of the sacrifice of His Body for us on the cross. The night before Jesus died, “He took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My Body, which will be given for you; do this in
memory of Me.’ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My
Blood, which will be shed for you.’” (Luke 22:19-20)
When we devoutly receive Holy Communion, we are receiving the real Jesus, body and soul, humanity and divinity, and we become for a while truly united to Him. This is a sign and a pledge and a great help for us to become members of His Mystical Body, united together through Jesus. That means that He offers us a share in His own life, so that we can also give our bodies in loving service to God and to others. Whether God has given us a male body or a female body, a short body or a tall body, a perfectly healthy body or one with severe physical limitations, by our union with Jesus we can be strengthened to give of ourselves in loving ser-vice to others, and to truly become united to God and to them! May we thank God for giving His Body for us, and for giving us our bodies to be joined to His for the service of others, that we may be perfectly united one day as one heavenly family!

¿Cómo se pueden unir diferentes personas como una sola? Ésta es
una pregunta a la que nos enfrentamos desde el inicio de nuestra vida, cuando queremos estar unidos a nuestros padres. Es el amor abnegado de nuestra mamá y papá lo que nos atrae hacia ellos. Cuando somos mayores, queremos estar unidos con nuestros amigos, queremos que estén tan cerca de nosotros como si fuéramos una familia. Pero eso no sucede cuando una persona usa a la otra para su propio beneficio. La unidad de una amistad sana es posible cuando los amigos se entregan por el bien de los demás. Y eso es aún más cierto cuando un hombre y una mujer están unidos por matrimonio en Cristo. Prometen a Dios que se darán libremente el uno al otro como un regalo completo, incondicional y vivificante. Luego, con la bendición de Dios, "los dos se vuelven uno". De todas estas formas, Dios quiere que aprendamos que la verdadera unidad, la unidad que anhelamos, solo es posible a través del amor abnegado.
La semana pasada discutimos el Misterio de la Santísima Trinidad, el Dios Único que son tres Personas Divinas (el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo), unidas por un amor perfecto y abnegado. Cada uno de
nosotros tiene un profundo anhelo de unidad con Dios y entre nosotros porque fuimos creados a Su imagen y semejanza. Pero con demasiada frecuencia, nuestra tendencia a pecar no crea unidad, sino división. Cuando ponemos nuestros propios deseos por encima del bienestar de los demás, cuando decimos palabras malas o tratamos a los demás como meros objetos para nuestro propio placer, endurecemos nuestro corazón ante ellos y nos separamos de ellos. Cada pecado de alguna manera nos separa de Dios y de aquellos que Él creó a Su imagen y semejanza.
Solo Dios podía pagar la deuda infinita en la que incurrimos por nuestros pecados y sanar nuestra desunión. Por eso, hace 2021 años, Dios Hijo unió Su naturaleza divina a nuestra naturaleza humana. El Dios que nunca había conocido el sufrimiento ni la muerte, tomó sobre sí mismo un cuerpo humano para oder entregarse libremente por nosotros de manera completa, incondicional y vivificante. En verdadero amor, Dios tomó sobre Sí mismo un cuerpo para hacer posible nuestra perfecta unidad con Él y con los demás. Como dijo Jesús: “Cuando sea levantado de la tierra [en la Cruz], atraeré todo” (Juan 12:32).
El gran sacrificio de amor de Jesús fue para todas las personas y para todos los tiempos. Así que nos dejó un memorial del sacrificio de Su Cuerpo por nosotros en la cruz. La noche antes de la muerte de Jesús, “tomó pan, y dando gracias, lo partió y se lo dio diciendo: “Esto es mi cuerpo, que es entregado por ustedes. Hagan esto en memoria mía”. Y lo mismo hizo la copa después de haber comido, diciendo: “Esta copa es la alianza nueva sellada con mi sangre, que es derramada por ustedes” (Lucas 22: 19-20).
Cuando recibimos devotamente la Sagrada Comunión, estamos recibiendo al verdadero Jesús, en cuerpo y alma, humanidad y divinidad, y por un tiempo nos unimos verdaderamente a Él. Esta es una señal y una promesa y una gran ayuda para que seamos miembros de Su Cuerpo Místico, unidos por Jesús. Eso significa que Él nos ofrece una participación en su propia vida, para que también podamos entregar nuestro cuerpo en amoroso servicio a Dios y a los demás. Ya sea que Dios nos haya dado un cuerpo masculino o femenino, un cuerpo bajo o un cuerpo alto, un cuerpo perfectamente sano o uno con limitaciones físicas severas, por nuestra unión con Jesús podemos ser fortalecidos para entregarnos en amoroso servicio a los demás. ¡y verdaderamente unirse a Dios y a ellos!
¡Que agradezcamos a Dios por dar Su Cuerpo por nosotros, y por darnos nuestros cuerpos para unirnos al Suyo para el servicio de los demás, para que un día estemos perfectamente unidos como una familia celestial!
