Vocations Corner: Corpus Christi

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of the Son of God. I think it goes without saying that we celebrate this feast not sim-ply to point out that Jesus has a body and that He has blood flowing through His veins (we pretty much celebrate that fact on the Feast of the Incarnation: that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!). Today we celebrate much more. We are called to focus on the fact that Christ’s body was given up for us and that His blood was shed upon the cross all those years ago. But it goes deeper in that through the Sacrament of the Altar, the Eucharist, and through the consecration of the Precious Blood, this same gift is given up for us each and every day. In other words, on the feast of Corpus Christi we celebrate Christ’s presence, Christ’s gift, and Christ’s love that are present in the Eucharist.

What makes this reality SO incredible and takes it to an even deeper level though, is that through receiving the Eucharist at Mass, and consuming the living Body and Blood of Christ, Jesus actually lives within each of us. From this fact comes that mission that we in turn are called to make a gift of our lives, so that God can in turn use us to bring Christ’s presence, Christ’s gift, and Christ’s love to others. So my question for you today is this: In a particular way, how is God calling you to bring the presence of Christ to others? Think about it, and then go out and make it happen!
