I would like to welcome you back to the new academic year 2017. As many of you who attended our closing ceremony in December will know, we have a brand new look! Colegio EuroAmericano is now Euroamerican College. Our theme for the year is “Cultivating a love for learning”.
In order to reflect this new image, the school has new colours, a new logo which reflects the sun, the mountain and the Jacinto flower used by the college in its water recycling system and also a new uniform, details of which are attached. The old uniform will no longer be available from our suppliers. However, it is important to highlight the fact that there will be a one year transition period.
During the holidays building work has been done. A new building has been constructed for the Secondary School which contains 6 classrooms plus offices and a staffroom which we will be inaugurating in three weeks’ time. Also the entire school has been freshly painted in our new colours which help to enhance our environment.
We have also made a change to the timetable. The students will now have nine 40 minute periods instead of eight 45 minutes periods. This extra period will give us more flexibility and will be used for training, rehearsal, tutorial and assembly time. However, it is important to point out that this is an internal change and does not affect the start or finish of the school day.
This year we are pleased to welcome the following new teachers to our school community: Roman Sotelo (Chemistry), Sofia Sanchez (Environmental Systems and Society), Seamus McGee (Primary Tutor),Liliana Rojas (Primary Tutor), Nelly Sanchez (Primary Tutor), Jessica Sevillano (Primary Spanish), Ana Salpietro (SEN), Richard Odell (English and SEN), Martha Arteaga (French), José Antonio Castillo (Music), Gustavo Yataco (Music). I am sure you join me in wishing them all the best.
The school has continued to invest in professional development for our teachers. During February our Early Years and Primary teachers received an onsite three day PYP workshop. We also sent teachers to the local ASCIBP workshops for International Baccalaureate training plus some staff attended the “Congreso internacional de educadores” at UPC. Also eight teachers received the Google Apps (GAFE) training teachers at Newton College.
The school has continued give staff training in our intranet computer system called SIANET. We encourage you to communicate with the teachers through this system.

Euroamerican families are very collaborative. Last year you helped to raise 37,115.30 soles for the Fundación Acción Contra El Hambre when your children took part in “La Carrera Contra La Desnutricion”. We also raised 4,128 soles for Help them Hope’s campaign “Dream Big Rise Higher Educational Partnerships”. Thank you also for helping with the Christmas Campaign organized by the IB Diploma students.

Es muy grato para mi darles la bienvenida a este nuevo año escolar 2017. Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, según lo anunciado en la ceremonia de clausura realizada en diciembre del año pasado, tenemos una nueva imagen. El Colegio EuroAmericano es ahora Euroamerican College. Nuestro lema motivador para este año es "Cultivando el amor por el aprendizaje".
Para reflejar esta nueva imagen, el colegio tiene nuevos colores y un nuevo logo que refleja el sentir del Euroamerican College: el sol, la montaña y la flor de jacinto que es utilizada por el colegio en su sistema de reciclaje de agua. Asimismo contamos con un nuevo uniforme. El uniforme antiguo ya no estará disponible con nuestros proveedores. Sin embargo, es importante señalar el hecho de que habrá un período de transición de un año.

Cómo podrán observar, durante las vacaciones se ha realizado el trabajo de construcción del nuevo pabellón de secundaria que contiene 6 aulas más oficinas y también una sala de profesores. Todo ello será inaugurado dentro de tres semanas. Se ha procedido además a pintar las instalaciones con los colores característicos de nuestra nueva imagen, los cuales ayudan a resaltar nuestro ambiente natural.
Es necesario indicarles que se ha hecho un cambio en el calendario escolar. Los estudiantes tendrán ahora nueve períodos de 40 minutos cada uno, en lugar de ocho períodos de 45 minutos. Este período adicional nos dará más flexibilidad y será utilizado para talleres, ensayos, tutoría y asamblea escolar. Sin embargo, es importante señalar que se trata de un cambio interno y no afectará el inicio o finalización del día escolar.
Por otro lado, todas las familias de la IEP Euroamerican College, son muy colaboradoras. Gracias a ustedes el año pasado hemos logrado recaudar S/ 37,155.30 Soles, en la actividad denominada “Carrera contra el hambre”, dinero destinado a la fundación “Acción contra el hambre y la desnutrición”.
Asimismo, hemos logrado recaudar la cantidad de S/ 4,128.00 soles para la ONG “Help them Hope”.

Los esperamos en la primera reunión de padres de familia, que se realizará el día sábado 25 de marzo.
Es importante mencionar que durante las vacaciones, los profesores han continuado recibiendo capacitaciones. Las profesoras del nivel Early years y Primaria asistieron a un taller de tres días orientado hacia el trabajo del PYP.
Otros docentes asistieron a los talleres organizados por la ASCIBP, organización del Bachillerato Internacional. Además, varios profesores asistieron al “Congreso internacional de educadores” en la universidad UPC. También, ocho profesores recibieron entrenamiento en la App de Google (GAFE) en el colegio Newton.
Les informamos que el personal en general ha continuado su entrenamiento en el sistema informático de intranet denominado SIANET.
