INFORMATION FOR LANGUAGE ASSISTANTS 2021-2022

I. ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES BEFORE ARRIVING IN THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY

Step 1. Read the Letter of Appointment.

You already have your Letter of Appointment. Make copies and always take it with you to carry out all the following procedures.

(The Commission responsible for the selection of the language assistants has allocated the available positions according to the evaluation of the files and the profiles required by the destination schools. Therefore, no changes will be permitted. The comments indicated by the candidates have been taken into consideration, but sometimes it has not been possible to meet your requests. We thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding in this matter).

Step 2. Contact the assigned school.

In the letter of appointment, you will find an e-mail and telephone number of the educational centre where you have been assigned to work as a language assistant. Telephone or email and speak to the school management team to establish initial contact and notify them that you will be joining them on 1 October 2021 or the approximate date of arrival. You can arrange a meeting so they can help you with your arrival to the country. Alternatively, if you will not be able to accept the allocated place, please send an email informing them of this decision.

(7)

Step 3. Request a negative certificate of offences of a sexual nature.

The language assistant must bring this document from his/her country and present it on the first day at the educational centre: a negative certificate, issued by the sex offenders' register or by the register of convicts (or equivalent bodies in his/her country), that he/she has not been convicted by a final judgement for any offence against sexual freedom and identity.

Without this document you will not be able to start your collaboration at the educational centre. In case of being a renewing assistant in the programme, he/she must apply for it at the competent Spanish offices.

Step 4. Make an appointment at an Immigration Office (Police Station) to obtain the NIE or TIE.

To obtain a Foreigner Identification Number (NIE), you must make an appointment for the first few days you arrive in the Comunitat Valenciana at the office closest to your location.

This procedure is necessary in order to receive the monthly subsidy.

For EU language assistants, you will obtain the NIE when you receive the "Certificado de registro de la Unión Europea" (Certificate of Registration of the European Union). You can request an appointment with sufficient time in advance at:

https://sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/pagina/index/directorio/icpplus

If you are a non-EU citizen and already have a NIE, it is advisable to make an appointment at the following link: https://sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es/icpplus/index.html. to apply for the issuance of the TIE (fingerprinting).

Step 5. Bring your health insurance card (only for language assistants from EU countries)

All language assistants from European Union member states are expected to bring a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which is valid for the entire period of appointment (from 1 October 2021 to 31 May 2022).

This card will entitle you to receive medically necessary health benefits during a temporary

(8)

stay in Spain. The European Health Insurance Card will be valid from the date of receipt until the expiry date stated on the card.

Step 6. Read the Language Assistant's Guide

Read the Guia de auxiliares de conversación -Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura i Esport on the website of the Servei d'Educació Plurilingüe de la Conselleria d'Educació, Cultura i Esport at the link https://ceice.gva.es/es/web/ensenanzas-en-lenguas/auxiliares-de- conversacion..

You will find a lot of information regarding both the administrative procedures and your task as a language assistant.

II. ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY

Step 7. Joining the educational centre

The language assistant will have to start at the assigned educational centre on 1 October 2021. It is important to make an initial contact as indicated in step 2. Until the language assistant arrives at the school, he/she is not considered to have started his/her collaboration in the programme. For all purposes, the starting day counts as his/her first day in the programme and the grant received will count only from that day.

Step 8. Obtain your Foreigner's Identity Number (NIE) or obtain the Foreigner's Identity Card (TIE).

(9)

EU language assistants must go to an Immigration Office (Police Station) in the town closest to their residence with their appointment request (according to step 4) and apply for the "Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano/a de la Unión Europea" where the assigned NIE will appear. You must pay the fee model 790 and present the relevant documents (check the Guía de auxiliares de conversación) together with the application form model EX-18 properly completed and signed. It is important to mark on this form the option “Estudiante con recursos suficientes y seguro de enfermedad” in Section 4. You can find it at http://extranjeros.mitramiss.gob.es/es/ModelosSolicitudes/Mod_solicitudes2/index.html . Non-EU citizens who already have a NIE must apply for the TIE, paying the corresponding fee and presenting the required documents (check the Guía de auxiliares de conversación) and the properly completed and signed form EX17, which you will find at the following link:

http://extranjeros.mitramiss.gob.es/es/ModelosSolicitudes/Mod_solicitudes2/index.html

Step 9. Obtain a bank account to receive the monthly grant

It is a requirement to obtain a bank account in Spain to receive the monthly allowance.

In order to receive your monthly allowance without delay, the bank certificate that you will request once the account is opened must reflect the NIE. (More information in the Guía de auxiliares de conversación).

Step 10. Health card and repatriation insurance

The EU language assistant must bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from his/her country. If you are not entitled to apply for this card in your country, if the health authorities in your country refuse to issue it, or if your card is only valid for a few months, the Conselleria d'Educació, Cultura i Esport, will include you in an insurance policy that will give you access to assistance during the aforementioned period. All assistants will also be covered by a repatriation insurance.

(10)

Step 11. Attending the Reception and Orientation Session

The language assistant, in accordance with the Letter of Appointment agrees to participate in a Reception and Orientation Session to be held in the first fortnight of October 2021 in the place communicated by the Conselleria d'Educació, Cultura i Esport. You will be accompanied by someone from the educational centre, preferably your mentor. You will receive an informative e-mail, whether this event takes place in person or online.

Kind regards from the coordinators of the Language Assistant Programme.
