Quinceañera Celebrations: The family must be registered in the parish for a period of three (3) months prior to the date of the first preparation session. The candidate should register for her/his Quince Años ceremony on or before her/his 14th birthday . The candidate must have been baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and must have received First Eucharist prior to the time of the ceremony. If the honoree has not received the Sacrament of Communion, she/he should be enrolled to prepare to receive the sacrament before the Quince Años ceremony. Queridos amigos en St. Dominic
Este fin de semana es el domingo de Pentecostés! Pentecostés es el día 50 y el final de la temporada de Pascua. 50 días después de la resurrección (y 10 días después de la Asunción de Jesús), los apóstoles estaban reunidos, esperando lo prometido "Espíritu Santo" que vendrá sobre ellos. Jesús había dicho a sus apóstoles antes de ascender al cielo ", que recibiréis la fuerza del Espíritu Santo que vendrá sobre vosotros, y seréis mis testigos en Jerusa-lén, en toda Judea y Samaria, y los confines de la tierra." Hechos 1: 8. Y como siempre, Jesús cumplió su promesa. Pentecostés se celebra la efusión del Espíritu Santo sobre los Apóstoles y el comienzo de la Iglesia.
Hoy en día, también nos recuerda que cada cristiano es una llama ardiente de la gracia. La llama viva de la vela de Pascua nos recuerda que Cristo está vivo, que resucitó de entre los muertos al igual que el sol sale cada mañana para poner fin a la oscuridad de la noche. El alto y vela blanca con una llama ar-diente en la parte superior nos recordó de la fidelidad de Dios a lo largo de toda la historia. Simbolizaba los dos pilares milagrosas - el humo de día y fuego por la noche - que habían guiado los anti-guos israelitas fuera de Egipto, a través del desierto, y hacia la tierra prometida. Ahora es el Cristo, el Señor Resucitado, que es nuestro pilar de humo y columna de fuego, nuestra guía segura de la esclavitud al pecado, a través de este mundo de pruebas y tentaciones, y en la tierra prometida de los Cielos. Pero hoy nos quitamos la vela de Pascua del santuario. Hasta la próxima Pascua, sólo la utilizaremos durante las ceremonias de bautismo, cuando la vida de Cristo resucitado se da por primera vez a los nuevos miembros de la Iglesia.
¿La eliminación de la vela de Pascua significa que Cristo ya no está entre nosotros? No. La lámpara del santuario junto al Tabernáculo nos recuerda que Cristo no ha ido de vacaciones. Pentecostés es el día en que la vida de Cristo resucitado fue con-fiada a la Iglesia por el don del Espíritu Santo, la Tercera Persona de la Santísima Trinidad, que descendió como lenguas de fuego sobre los apóstoles nueve días después de Cristo subió al cielo. Esa nueva temporada en la vida de la Iglesia tiene su paralelo en nuestro nuevo tiempo litúrgico, Tiempo Ordinario, cuando toma-mos la vela de Pascua del santuario, porque nosotros mistoma-mos ha-cemos vivir Velas Pascua, la quema de las llamas de la sabidu-ría, pilares de la fe y el amor cristiano difundir la esperanza de Cristo en el mundo.

Dear Friends in St. Dominic
This week-end is Pentecost Sunday! Pentecost is the 50th and final day of the Easter Season. 50 Days after Jesus’ resurrection (and 10 days after Jesus’ Ascension), the apos-tles were gathered together, waiting for the promised “Holy Spirit” to come upon them. Jesus had told his Apostles prior to ascending into heaven, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria and the ends of the Earth.” Acts 1:8. And as always, Jesus kept His promise. Pentecost celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the beginning of the Church.
Today, we are also reminded that every Christian is a burn-ing flame of grace. For the past seven weeks we have kept the Easter Candle in the sanctuary, lighting it every time we have celebrated Mass. The living flame of the Easter Candle reminded us that Christ is alive, that he rose from the dead just as the sun rises each morning to put an end to the dark-ness of the night. The tall, white candle with a burning flame on top reminded us of God's faithfulness throughout all of history. It symbolized the two miraculous pillars - smoke by day and fire by night - that had guided the ancient Israelites out of Egypt, through the desert, and to the Prom-ised Land. Now it is Christ, the Risen Lord, who is our pillar of smoke and pillar of fire, our sure guide out of slavery to sin, through this world of trials and temptations, and into the Promised Land of Heaven. But today we remove the Easter Candle from the sanctuary. Until next Easter, we will only use it during baptism ceremonies, when Christ's risen life is given for the first time to new members of the Church.
Does the removal of the Easter Candle mean that Christ is no longer among us? No. The sanctuary lamp beside the Tabernacle reminds us that Christ has not gone on vacation. Pentecost is the day when Christ's risen life was entrusted to the Church by the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, who descended like tongues of fire on the Apostles nine days after Christ has ascended into heaven. That new season in the life of the Church is paralleled by our new liturgical season, Ordinary Time, when we take the Easter Candle out of the sanctu-ary, because we ourselves become living Easter Candles, burning flames of wisdom, pillars of Christian faith and love spreading Christ's hope in the world.

“Keeping the Promise Alive” is a mandatory refresher course that went into effect 2011-2012. Employees and volunteers are
re-quired to attend “Keeping the Promise Alive” after 5 years of attending the “Protecting God’s Children”® program. It is a 1.5 hour session with one video that provides ongoing awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse. The material covered in “Keeping the Promise Alive” is designed to identify and reinforce the lessons of the original “Protecting God’s Children” program by clarifying some of the more challenging aspects of the sessions and strengthening the participants’ ability to recognize risky behavior by adults in their environments and take action to intervene in potentially threatening situations.

A SIGNIFICANT DAY
“And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were” (Acts 2:2). The Holy Spirit’s arrival on that first Pentecost was signaled by a rush of wind. We all know what it’s like when our windows are open just as a summer storm rises up. Curtains fly, papers be-come airborne, house plants shudder, dust is scattered. A rush of wind disrupts the orderliness of our home. The coming of the Holy Spirit, as celebrated each year at Pentecost, can also disrupt ways that have become comfortable and orderly. The Church always needs Pentecost. We need the breath of God’s Spirit to blow away any complacency or malaise that has settled into our faith. Jesus breathes on his disciples and they receive the Holy Spirit. With that reception comes the power to share the Good News of salvation. Today, this is no less true for us.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Marriage is ideally a parish event today, but in the first three centuries of the church’s history, it was a household celebration guided by civil law and pagan cus-toms. Changes happened quickly after the Peace of Con-stantine in 312, and the fresh air after long persecution brought some creativity. The speech that the father of the groom’s family gave before dinner or the veiling or crowning of the bride (or even the spouse’s arrival at the honeymoon suite) attracted a prayer of blessing.With amazing rapidity, worship was propelled out of the intimate setting of house churches to large public gathering spaces, and some parts of the marriage ceremo-ny began to migrate with the growing community to the new spaces. In Rome, the veiling of the bride with the customary daily headgear of a married woman became the central liturgical act, accompanied by a biblical pray-er for hpray-er integrity and fruitfulness. Thpray-ere wpray-ere no vows as such (just as there are no vows to this day in the Or-thodox marriage rite). In the liturgy, after hearing John’s Gospel account of the wedding at Cana, the bride was veiled and blessed, and the priest gave the kiss of peace to the husband, who then gave it to his bride. The liturgy of Rome traveled far, and everywhere it went, marriage became a church celebration.

“De repente se oyó un gran ruido que venía del cielo, como cuando sopla un viento fuerte, que resonó por toda la casa donde se encontraban” (Hechos 2:2). La llegada del Espíritu Santo en ese primer Pentecostés fue marcada por un viento fuerte. Todos sabemos lo que se siente cuando abrimos las ventanas en el momento en que se levanta una tormenta de verano. Las cortinas vuelan, los papeles se elevan, las plantas tiemblan y el polvo se revuelve. Un ventarrón que perturba el orden de nuestro hogar. La venida del Espíritu Santo, que celebramos cada año durante Pentecostés, también puede perturbar hábitos que se han vuelto cómodos y organizados. La Iglesia siempre necesita de Pentecostés. Necesitamos el soplo del Espíritu de

El tiempo de Pascua termina con el Domingo de Pentecostés y la venida del Espíritu Santo. Pero, ¿qué o quién es el Espíritu Santo? En 1897, el papa León XIII escribió la primera encíclica papal acerca del Espíritu Santo. Llamada Divinum illud munus (Aquel Divino Encargo). En esa encíclica, León XIII explica quién es el Espíritu de Dios y cuál es su función.El Espíritu Santo es la bondad, el amor y la caridad del Padre y del Hijo. Un amor tan fuerte e inmenso que se hace persona y se derrama sobre nosotros. El Papa insiste que si Cristo es la cabeza de la Iglesia, el Espíritu Santo es su alma. El Espíritu de Dios se manifiesta en la Iglesia, perdonando pecados, repartiendo gracia y habitando en el corazón de los fieles.
Jesús declara a sus discípulos: “Les conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, no vendrá a ustedes el Paráclito; pero si me voy, se los enviaré (Juan 16:7). Por eso conviene que pidamos el don del Espíritu Santo, fuente inexhausta de luz, de consuelo y de gracia.
