Lectura del Libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles:
Cuando llegó el día de Pentecostés, estaban todos juntos en el mismo lugar. De repente, vino del cielo un ruido como el de una violenta ráfaga de viento y llenó toda la casa donde estaban reunidos.
Se les aparecieron entonces unas lenguas como de fuego que se repartieron y se posaron sobre cada uno de ellos. Todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo y comenzaron a hablar en diferentes lenguas, según el Espíritu les concedía expresarse.
Estaban de visita en Jerusalén judíos piadosos, procedentes de todas las naciones de la tierra. Al oír aquel bullicio, se agolparon y quedaron todos pasmados porque cada uno los escuchaba hablar en su propio idioma. Desconcertados y

Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' "

THE SECOND LESSON Romans 8:22-27 A reading from the letter to the Romans:
We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

SECUNDA LECTURA Romanos 8:22-27 Lectura de la Carta de San Pablo a los Romanos:
Sabemos que hasta ahora la creación entera se queja y sufre como una mujer con dolores de parto. Y no sólo ella sufre, sino también nosotros, que ya tenemos el Espíritu como anticipo de lo que vamos a recibir. Sufrimos profundamente, esperando el momento de ser adoptados como hijos de Dios, con lo cual serán liberados nuestros cuerpos. Con esa esperanza hemos sido salvados.
Sólo que esperar lo que ya se está viendo no es esperanza, pues, ¿quién espera lo que ya está viendo? Pero si lo que esperamos es algo que todavía no vemos, tenemos que esperarlo sufriendo con firmeza.
De igual manera, el Espíritu nos ayuda en nuestra debilidad. Porque no sabemos orar como es debido, pero el Espíritu mismo ruega a Dios por nosotros, con gemidos que no pueden expresarse con palabras. Y Dios, que examina los corazones, sabe qué es lo que el Espíritu quiere decir, porque el Espíritu ruega, conforme a la voluntad de Dios, por los del pueblo santo.

deje ver al Padre? ¿No crees que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí? Las cosas que les digo, no las digo por mi propia cuenta. El Padre, que vive en mí, es el que hace sus propias obras.
Créanme que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí; si no, crean al menos por las obras mismas.
Les aseguro que el que cree en mí hará también las obras que yo hago; y hará otras todavía más grandes, porque yo voy a donde está el Padre. Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
"If you love me, you will keep my
commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.”
"I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."

Will you be responsible for seeing that the child you present is brought up in the Christian faith and life?
I will, with God’s help.
Will you by your prayers and witness help this child to grow into the full stature of Christ?
I will, with God’s help.
The Celebrant asks the following questions of the parents and godparents who speak on behalf of infants and younger children.
Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?
I renounce them.
Do you renounce the evil powers of this world which corrupt and destroy the creatures of God?
I renounce them.
Do you renounce all sinful desires that draw you from the love of God?
I renounce them.
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Savior?
I do.
Do you put your whole trust in his grace and love?
I do.
Do you promise to follow and obey him as your Lord?

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism.
In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior.

Summer Music Kickoff and Community Dinner, Thursday, June 16
A woodwind quintet from the Charlotte Symphony will present a free concert at Holy Comforter on Thursday, June 16 at 7:00pm. This concert kicks off Holy Comforter's "Summer of Remarkable Music", which will feature guest instrumentalists at the 10:00am Eucharist each week between June 19-August 28. The woodwind quintet concert will be preceded by a community dinner at 5:45pm in Henry Hall. All are invited to attend! Please RSVP to Jessica Dunlap by Monday, June 13 at jessicad@holycomfortercharlotte.org. Suggested donation for the dinner will be $5 per person or $20 per family. This year's Vacation Bible School will be June 20-23. We meet 9am-1pm, and it is open to anyone between 3 years and 3rd grade. 4th graders and up are invited to come as helpers. We also need packing supplies (bubble wrap and boxes).

Summer Hymn Class
Patrick and Father Barry will co-lead a 4 week class on Christian hymns on June 19 and 26 and July 10 and 17 following the 10 am service in Henry Hall in English June 19 - Introduction to the hymns of the Christian church and an in-depth look at the hymnwriter Isaac Watts.
June 26 - The hymns of Charles Wesley.
July 10 - The hymns of Catherine Winkworth.
July 17 - The hymns of Brian Wren and Timothy Dudley- Smith
