The Australian grains industry has just experienced its largest production on record in 2021/22, with this webinar providing an overview and an outlook of the Australian barley plantings for 2022/23.
Other key items include an update in relation to Australia’s barley export activity specific to Ecuador and Peru. Barley Australia will be on-hand to provide updates about their quality accreditation program and recently accredited barley varieties.On the local scene, there will be a session looking at the outlook for Ecuador and Peru in relation to malt and brewing demand, growth trends and an overview of the current beer styles and consumption. Information will also be presented on supply chain, government and trade and market access.
A live Q&A session will include representatives from Ecuador, Peru and Australia’s grains industries to discuss ensuring grain quality, reliability, and safety.

Maree Ringland
AMBASSADOR TO PERU
Ms Ringland is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Director, Afghanistan Consular Support Unit.
She has previously served overseas in Beijing;
and as Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Santiago de Chile. In Canberra she served in a wide range of corporate, consular and regional trade roles within DFAT.
Ms Ringland holds a Master of International Relations from Monash University; and a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) / Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University.
Mary Raynes
BARLEY MARKETS MANAGER, AUSTRALIAN EXPORT GRAINS INNOVATION CENTRE (AEGIC) Mary Raynes is responsible for AEGIC’s barley market insights program.
The program aims to identify the barley quality attributes preferred by customers of Australian barley. The information gathered from the program assists the Australian grains industry to breed, grow and supply grain that meets the quality requirements of consumers.
Ms Raynes has extensive whole-of-supply chain experience for cereals and pulses crops across the Australian dryland grain production industry and their suitability for export markets. Her wealth of operational knowledge and understanding of the Australian grains industry from production to customer requirements has been built from working for Grain Trade Australia, Pulse Australia, the Victorian Government and family broadacre grain farm.
Mary has also been closely involved with the planning and management of the internationally renowned Australian Barley Technical Symposium (ABTS), holding the role of Symposia Secretary for the 2019 Perth Hobart Symposium and serving as a member of the organising committee for the upcoming 2022 Symposia.
Ms Raynes has, with other barley industry stakeholders, contributed to improving malting barley access to India. Mary technically engages with consumers of barley for malting and feed uses in Africa, Latin and Central America, Philippines, Viet Nam, Thailand and China.
Lloyd George
MANAGING DIRECTOR, AG SCIENTIA Lloyd George’s career spans more than 30 years in the Australian grain industry. This included 17 years with an international grain trading company in a range of domestic and international roles.
Lloyd then concentrated his attention on building a grain informational and analytical business focused on Australia. He continues to write a weekly grain article for Australian rural newspapers as well running training workshops in grain marketing.
Ian Mortimer
COUNSELLOR AGRICULTURE – SOUTHERN AMERICA (SANTIAGO DE CHILE)
Mr Mortimer is a career senior public servant with over 28 years in the Australian Government including with the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority. He served as Counsellor Agricultural to the Australian High Commission in New Delhi from 2009 to 2012.
Prior to commencing as Counsellor Agriculture (Southern America) Mr Mortimer was Director for Indonesia, Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Mr Mortimer has held numerous senior positions in the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, covering agri-food and free trade agreements, biosecurity policy, emergency response and in a number of bilateral sections responsible for managing relations with the Americas, South Asia and South East Asia.
Prior to joining the Australian Government, Mr Mortimer worked at the Australian National University in the School of Biochemistry.
Mr Mortimer holds tertiary qualification in Applied Science, Biology.

Dr Megan Sheehy
GENERAL MANAGER, GRAINS AUSTRALIA Dr Megan Sheehy is the newly appointed General Manger Classification for Grains Australia Limited (GA) and the outgoing Executive Chairperson (CEO) for Barley Australia (BA). The GM Classification role is a key executive position within Grains Australia and is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Australian grain variety classification outcomes. Megan is also a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) and a former Director and Chairperson for the Board of Management for the IBD’s Asia Pacific Section. Megan currently sits on the Global IBD Board of Trustees, and holds the position of Interim Deputy President.
Dr Sheehy holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of New South Wales and has held various operational and technical roles at Lion and Joe White Maltings. Megan has most recently gained extensive experience in Industry Good functions within the barley and the broader grains industry during her time at Barley Australia.
Megan has also been closely involved with the planning and management of the Internationally renowned Australian Barley Technical Symposium (ABTS) for the past two and upcoming symposia, holding the role of Symposia Secretary for the 2017 Hobart Symposium and serving as a member of the organising committee for the recent 2019 and the upcoming 2022 Symposia.

Mary Raynes es responsable del programa de información sobre el mercado de la cebada de AEGIC.

Lloyd George

Sr. Ian Mortimer

El Sr. Mortimer es un alto funcionario al servicio público con más de 28 años en el Gobierno australiano, incluyendo el Departamento de Agricultura, Agua y Medio Ambiente y la Autoridad
Australiana de Plaguicidas y Medicamentos Veterinarios.

Antes de comenzar como Consejero de Agricultura (América del Sur), el Sr. Mortimer fue Director para Indonesia, Oriente Medio, África del Norte y Asia del Sur.

GERENTA GENERAL DE CLASIFICACIÓN DE GRAINS AUSTRALIA LIMITED (GAL)
La Dra. Megan Sheehy es la recién nombrada Gerenta General de Clasificación de Grains Australia Limited (GAL) y la Presidenta Ejecutiva (CEO) saliente de Barley Australia (BA). La función de clasificación de GM es un puesto ejecutivo clave dentro de Grains Australia y es responsable de la coordinación y la entrega de los resultados de clasificación de variedades de granos australianos.
Megan también es miembro del Instituto de Elaboración de Cerveza y Destilación (IBD) y exdirectora y presidenta de la Junta Directiva de la Sección de Asia Pacífico del IBD. Megan actualmente forma parte de la Junta de Fideicomisarios de Global IBD y ocupa el cargo de Vicepresidenta Interina.
