PASTOR’S CORNER

Can you let something new into your life? When we were kids, everything was new,

everything was amazing. But most of us as adults arrived here by putting down limits of what life was abput. Because of hurts or disappointments, because of failures or inabilities, we mapped out a limited confine of what our story would be.

But the same God who created you as a child is the God who rules the cosmos today, and he is bigger than your template. Sunday morning we will read from Exodus 16, and it describes the Israelites in the desert, collapsing from hunger. We are crashing into our limits, and God breaks in. Through Moses, God shares with the Israelites new nourishment, food from heaven.

And with this incredible gift, the Israelites were able to allow something new into their

lives. Not knowing it from previous experience, they asked, “What is this?” In Hebrew, that phrase is ‘man-hu’, the origin of the word manna, the name given to the miraculous 40 year nourishment.

If God wants to give you a gift, would you allow in something new? Would you be willing to ask what is this new thing, that doesn’t match my rules?

In John 6 we hear on Sunday Jesus confirm that the way God wants to bless us is to introduce something from outside our experience: “For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” You will have to be willing to accept something from

beyond you, for God to change your life.

RIGHT TO LIFE

Roe v. Wade

Most Heinous Law High Court Ever Passed Roe vs.

Wade is the most controversial and heinous law our Supreme Court has ever passed. There is nothing that can justify abortion. Many of our fellow Americans are blind to the facts of the growth of a baby in a mother’s womb. At day one of conception, Life begins:

• At 17 days the baby has its own blood cells

• At 19 days, the eyes start to develop

• At 24 days, the heart beats regularly

• At 28 days, the arms and legs are forming

• At 30 days, the ears, nose and nasal tract Begin to form

• At 42 days, the skeletal system is complete, the reflexes are present, the nervous system is in place and baby can feel pain - the terrible pain of abortion.

If loved by its mother, the baby continues to grow and develop in all ways. The stomach, liver, kidneys and brain can function by 56 days and the arms and legs move and the baby can suck its thumb by 12 weeks and can cry by 18 weeks.

If the medical facts are not enough to convince you of life in the womb, I recommend reading the story, in the Bible of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth who was six months pregnant with John the Baptist. When Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the Bible says, ‘the babe in her womb leapt for joy.' This is biblical! Scripture did not say fetal tissue in her womb - it said, the babe in her womb leapt for joy.’ Little boys and girls can leap for joy. Tissue does not leap.

Our country has slipped morally. We can still right this terrible wrong. We must! We need to heal our country and restore it to its Christian principles. Even with our mistakes, we are still the greatest country on the face of the Earth.

Ruth Weber, Davenport, Iowa

Roe v. Wade

¡Debemos!
