Este texto recoge la experiencia de una serie de apuntes preparados originalmente para el curso de
Bioestadística de la carrera de Medicina UC, los que fueron enriquecidos mediante observaciones y aportes realizados por alumnos de diversas carreras de pregrado y de programas de postgrado de esa casa de estudios.
Debido a su génesis, está escrito en un lenguaje poco matemático, sin por ello sacrificar rigurosidad técnica y científica en el tratamiento de los diversos temas. Se aproxima a los métodos de la misma forma que un investigador lo hace al utilizar el método científico al responder una pregunta de investigación: toma una muestra aleatoria de la población de interés, observa las variables relacionadas con el fenómeno estudiado, y cautelando el cumplimiento de algunos supuestos, utiliza el tipo de estadística descriptiva, métodos de asociación de variables y modelos estadísticos más apropiados para resolver el problema.
En principio, el libro está dirigido a alumnos de pre y posgrado de Ciencias de la Salud, aunque también será de utilidad para investigadores interesados en comprender mejor los métodos estadísticos que utilizan en forma cotidiana.
