Nuestro inventor: Alfredo Móser
El mecánico brasileño Alfredo Moser descubrió que una botella de plástico con agua y cloro pueden iluminar el interior de una casa durante el día, así remplazando el uso de energía eléctrica. Estas lámparas funcionan con la refracción de la luz solar, utilizando cloro para evitar que el agua se torne verde por moho o algas. Luego de llenar la botella con agua y un poco de cloro, se hace un hoyo el en techo y la botella se mete a presión, después de ja con una resina para evitar goteras.
Según Alfredo, se estima que dependiendo de la cantidad de sol durante el día, la luz puede alcanzar de 40 a 60 watts.

¾Por qué necesitar este tipo de luz?
Miles de personas en el mundo viven en bar- rios de chabolas; lugares pobres donde las casas están muy juntas para aprovechar el es- pacio y donde no existen las ventanas. En el interior de dichas casas, sin electricidad o con poco dinero para pagarla, viven niños y an- cianos a oscuras... Hasta ahora. La fundación My Shelter ha sido capaz de proporcionarles luz natural con el proyecto un litro de luz.
Según su web, en Metro Manila (Filipinas) han conseguido iluminar unos 28.000 hogares bene ciando a más de 70.000 personas. Y su proyecto sigue creciendo en Indonesia, India o incluso Suiza.

Alfredo Moser's invention is lighting up the world. In 2002, the Brazilian me- chanic had a light-bulb moment and came up with a way of illuminating his house during the day without electricity - using nothing more than plastic bottles lled with water and a tiny bit of bleach. So how does it work? Simple refraction of sunlight, explains Moser, as he lls an empty two-litre plastic bottle. "An engineer came and measured the light," he says. "It depends on how strong the sun is but it's more or less 40 to 60 watts," he says.

The project 'A Liter of Light'
Our latest project is the Liter of Light or Isang Litrong Liwanag. It brings the eco-friendly bottle light to communities living without electricity.
The Technology
What do you get with sunshine and an old plastic bottle lled with water and chlorine? Thanks to Alfred Moser and a group of MIT students, you get a 55- watt solar bulb that refracts sunlight! It's powerful enough to light up a home but more than that it's environmentally friendly, inexpensive, and easy to make.
The Movement
The Liter of Light began in the Philippines with one bottle light. Eventually, the movement grew to brighten up 28,000 homes and the lives of 70,000 people in Metro Manila alone. Now Liter of Light is present in India, Indonesia, and even as far away as Switzerland.
The Future
MyShelter Foundation is relying on volunteers like you to spread the Liter of Light movement where it's needed. Using the Philippines as our home base, we want one million bottle lights installed around the world by 2015.
