St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina
Francesco Forgione was born about 130 years ago in a little town in Italy.
Even as a little child, he was very close to God and he wanted to become a priest when he grew up. He almost failed to become a priest because of his poor health. In fact, he suffered many sicknesses during his life, but he offered up his sufferings to God.
When he was 23, he was ordained a Franciscan priest and he became known affectionately as Padre Pio.
A few days after he had become a priest, an
amazing thing happened. He saw a vision of Jesus and Mary, and then he mysteriously received the 5 wounds of Jesus: wounds on his hands, his feet and his side. This only lasted a little while, then the wounds went away, but they came back 8 years later and stayed with him for the rest of his life.
They caused Padre Pio terrible pain, but again he accepted the sufferings out of love for God, and out of love for the people he served.
Many heard about Padre Pio and they came to him from far away for confession and advice.
Many people who met Padre Pio said that he had special supernatural powers. For example, during confession, he would remind them of serious sins that they had forgotten to confess, even sins that nobody else knew besides them!
Padre Pio said that since the time of his childhood, he was able to see his Guardian Angel and the Guardian Angels of others. And it was so clear and natural to him, that for a long time he just assumed everybody could see Guardian Angels! Padre Pio told people that they should pray often to
their Guardian Angels, asking for their help and guidance. Many times people from far away said that they had asked their Guardian Angel to take messages to Padre Pio to seek his prayers. Once a man who was flying in a small plane in a violent storm asked his guardian angel to seek help from Padre Pio.
When the man landed safely, he went to see Padre Pio, who immediately told him, “Your Guardian Angel arrived to me just in time!”
Padre Pio performed very many amazing miracles, and he even brought a dead person back to life! But he wanted many more people to know of God’s love and care for them. So, when he was 53, he begged people to help build a hospital for the sick of the area. Even though it was a very dangerous time, and World War II was about to start, he was able to build the hospital.
He saw the hospital as a way of showing God’s love to the sick and needy.
Padre Pio died at the age of 82. On the day that he died, his five wounds, the wounds of Jesus, were suddenly healed.
It was like a preview of His new life of glory in heaven!
As Padre Pio accepted much suffering for love of God and others, so may he help us to accept the crosses we must carry at times
in our lives, with great love for God and for all people.
May our loving sacrifices help many people to have new life in Jesus!
St. Padre Pio’s feast day is September 23rd.

Francesco Forgione nació hace unos 130 años en un pequeño pueblo de Italia. Incluso cuando era un niño pequeño, estaba muy cerca de Dios y quería convertirse en sacerdote cuando creciera. Casi no pudo convertirse en sacerdote debido a su mala salud. De hecho, sufrió muchas
enfermedades durante su vida, pero ofreció sus sufrimientos a Dios. Cuando tenía 23 años, fue ordenado
sacerdote franciscano y se le conoció cariñosamente como el Padre Pío.
Unos días después de que se había convertido en sacerdote, sucedió algo increíble. Vio una visión de Jesús y María, y luego recibió misteriosamente las 5 heridas de Jesús: heridas en sus manos, sus pies y su costado. Esto solo duró un poco, luego las heridas desaparecieron, pero regresaron 8 años después y se quedaron con él por el resto de su vida. Le Causaron al Padre Pío un dolor terrible, pero nuevamente aceptó los sufrimientos por amor a Dios y por amor a las personas a las que servía.
Muchos oyeron hablar del Padre Pío y vinieron a él desde muy lejos para confesarse y aconsejarse. Muchas personas que conocieron al Padre Pío dijeron que tenía poderes sobrenaturales especiales. Por ejemplo, durante la confesión, les recordaba pecados graves
que habían olvidado confesar, ¡incluso pecados que nadie más conocía aparte de ellos!
El Padre Pío dijo que desde la época de su infancia, pudo ver a su Ángel de la Guarda y a los Ángeles de la Guarda de otros. ¡Y fue tan claro y natural para él, que durante mucho tiempo asumió que todos podían ver a los Ángeles de la Guarda! El Padre Pío dijo a la gente que debían orar a menudo a sus Ángeles de la Guarda, pidiéndoles ayuda y guía. Muchas veces personas de muy lejos dijeron que le habían pedido a su Ángel de la Guarda que llevara mensajes al Padre Pío para buscar sus oraciones. Una vez, un hombre que volaba en un pequeño avión en una violenta tormenta le pidió a su ángel de la guarda que buscara ayuda del Padre Pío. Cuando el hombre aterrizó a salvo, fue a ver al Padre Pío, quien inmediatamente le dijo: "¡Tu Ángel de la Guarda llegó a mí justo a tiempo!"
El Padre Pío realizó muchos milagros asombrosos, ¡e incluso devolvió a la vida a una persona muerta! Pero él quería que muchas más personas supieran del amor y el cuidado de Dios por ellos. Entonces, cuando tenía 53 años, rogó a la gente que ayudara a construir un hospital para los enfermos de la zona. A pesar de que era un momento muy peligroso, y la Segunda Guerra Mundial estaba a punto de comenzar, pudo construir el hospital. Él vio el hospital como una forma de mostrar el amor de Dios a los enfermos y necesitados.
El Padre Pío murió a la edad de 82 años. El día que murió, sus cinco heridas, las heridas de Jesús, fueron sanadas repentinamente. ¡Fue como
un anticipo de Su nueva vida de gloria en el cielo!
Así como el Padre Pío aceptó mucho sufrimiento por amor a Dios y a los demás, así también puede ayudarnos a aceptar las cruces que debemos llevar a veces en nuestras vidas, con gran amor por Dios y por todas las personas. ¡Que nuestros sacrificios amorosos ayuden a muchas personas a tener una nueva vida en Jesús!
La fiesta de San Padre Pío es el 23 de septiembre.

will be from 9am-10am and virtual classes will be from 10:30am-11:30am.
Parents of children who will be attending in person classes, please make sure that
students be dropped off 15 minutes prior and have them wear their face mask. If the student is feeling sick or is
