The Resurrection. We imagine a lot about what heaven will be like, what it will be like after life on earth, who will be there. But we know so little. Nothing, really.

So we look for some “professional”

reflection. Ron Rolheiser offers this:

The resurrection has a place for positive thinking and emphasizes the importance of appropriate will-power.

But it’s much more than that. Ultimately, it is about the transcendent power of God breaking into nature and into our lives and doing for us what we can’t do simply through will-power and positive thinking. It is a power that can re-arrange the very atoms inside of our physical bodies, our aching emotions, and our divided world and raise up new life from the ashes.

Please keep praying for a new pastor, a good shepherd for our community of faith Church of the Holy Spirit.

A reminder, Voter Registration is being hosted by the League of Women Voters at every mass this weekend in the Gathering Space. And speaking of voting, have you seen this prayer?

Almighty God, you have given us this good land for our heritage. We humbly ask you that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will.

Bless our land with honorable endeavor, sound learning and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties and fashion into one united people the multitude brought here out of many nations and tongues. Endow with the Spirit of wisdom those to whom in your name we entrust the authority of government that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to your law we may show forth your praise among the nations on earth.

In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble do not allow our trust in you to fail.

We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Written by Thomas Jefferson

Here’s a church sign for you: “Don’t give up. Moses was once a basket case!”

Escrito por Thomas Jefferson In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble do not allow our

trust in you to fail. We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meal Ministry

Do you know a family that could use having a meal brought into their home? Perhaps an elderly neighbor, a young family with a new baby, or someone grieving a lost one?

OR

Do you have the time to make and deliver a meal to someone every so often? Not necessarily weekly – maybe even only once?

We are looking to create a Meal Ministry here at Church of the Holy Spirit, and we are looking for those that would be willing to donate their culinary skills for the benefit of those in need.

If you are willing and able to make a meal, or if you or someone you know would benefit from receiving a meal, please contact our parish office and Barb Geller will be in touch with you. Or, you can email

Ustedes me llaman “Señor,” me inclino a lavarles los pies;

Letra y Música © 1988, 1995, 1999, Bob Hurd y Pia Moriarty. Obra publicada por OCP Publications. Derechos reser- vados.

A Comer Tu Pan

Tú, Jesús, eres mi amigo, mi alegría y mi ansiedad;

A comer tu pan nos acercamos;

Songs for the 5pm, 8am & 10am Masses 5

Gathering Song: Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.

With God as our Father, fam’ly all are we.

Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.

With ev’ry step I take, let this be my solemn vow;

To take each moment, and live each moment in peace eternally!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Text & Tune: Sy Miller, 1908-1941, Jill Jackson, © 1955, 1983, Jan-Lee Music Acc. by Diana Kodner, b. 1957, © 1993 GIA Publications, Inc. Used by permission.

Psalm Response:

Lord, when your glory appears, my joy, my joy will be full, My joy, my joy will be full.

Hear, O Lord, a just suit, attend to my outcry.

Hear the pray’r of my lips; lips without deceit.

My steps are fast in your path, my feet have faltered not.

I call and you answer me; incline your ear to me.

Keep me in your gentle care. Hide me under your wings.

In justice shall I see your face, on waking shall I be content.

Presentation Song: Seek Ye First

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, And all these things shall be added unto you;

Allelu, alleluia.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, allelu, alleluia.

Ask, and it shall be given unto you, seek, and ye shall find, Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you;

Alleluia, alleluia.

Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst; And whatsoever ye ask, I will do.

Allelu, alleluia.

Communion Song: Ubi Caritas

Ubi caritas est vera, est vera: Deus ibi est, Deus ibi est.

The love of Christ joins us together. Let us rejoice in him, And in our love and care for all now love God in return.

In true communion let us gather. May all divisions cease And in their place be Christ the Lord, our risen Prince of Peace.

May we who gather at this table to share the bread of life Become a sacrament of love, your healing touch, O Christ.

For those in need make us your mercy, for those oppressed, your might.

Make us your Church, a holy sign of justice and new life.

May we one day behold your glory and see you face to face, Rejoicing with the saints of God to sing eternal praise.

“Where there is true charity, God is present.” Vss. 1,2,5 based on Latin Chant text, vss. 3,4 by Bob Hurd. Text and music © 1996, Bob Hurd. Published by OCP Publications.All rights reserved.

Closing Song: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift word;

His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory!

Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory!

Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;

They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps;

I can read the righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;

His day is marching on.

Thank you for your generosity in assisting the families from our Sharing Parish.

WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?

The US Bishops’ pastoral letter, “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response,”

sees a life of stewardship as the fruit that comes from an authentic life with Jesus. Faith in Jesus is the minimum requirement that begins this journey from discipleship to stewardship living. There are those who

believe in Jesus but do not know him. It becomes very hard to contemplate responding to the call of someone you do not know.

The last sentence of Luke 18:8 should give a reason to pause and reflect. Jesus says to his disciples, “But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on Earth?” We can easily respond affirmatively to the question, but if we want to look at the Earth ourselves without being able to see into people’s hearts, where is the evidence of the faith that Jesus seeks? When we look at our world, do we see evidence of large amounts of faithful people living in a way that faith would lead them to live?

Our stewardship way of life is evidence of our faith. It is hard to argue that one truly has faith if they do not seek to live as Jesus calls us.

An unfortunate cycle is then created when those who not believe do not see any reason to have faith. Our stewardship is not only evidence, but it is our testimony and witness to faith. If Jesus returned today, what would he see? Where is your evidence? Has your witness brought others to him?

Congratulations to the children in our Religious Education program that participated in the Saints Project for All Saints Day.

The students researched their favorite Saint, drew pictures, wrote a story about them, put a poster together for a presenta- tion and proudly stood by their table in the Hospitality Room this past Sunday to answer questions for parishioners that stopped by after Mass to look at their projects. We are very proud of them for their hard work and love for the life of Saints.

Saints are human beings who lived holy lives in obedience to God’s will

and are now in heaven for eternity interceding for our needs.

Parish Information / Información Parroquial

I believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven;

and by the Holy Spirit,

was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified.

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic, apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen

y se hizo hombre;

y subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre;
