The Pastor’s Corner
After weeks of purple, Passion Sunday brings us the red vestments we'll see on Good Friday. An ominous color in what it signifies, what could represent the fire of the Holy Spirit instead is the blood of the lamb about to be shed. Our Gospel passage from Luke opens with the Last Supper as Jesus consecrates his blood as our new drink, bringing us to share in his sacrifice. While we are waving our palm branches and shouting greetings to a king, he already sees the crown that he will wear, woven out of thorns.
So often our life likewise weaves together beautiful and tragic moments simultaneously, joyful and sorrowful mysteries mingling together. Drawing near to Jesus means discovering how inextricable these realities are: the cross brings resurrection, the risen Jesus still bears the brand marks of the nails in his hands and feet.
This Christian ability to see both joy and sorrow in the same moment gives us a gentleness and humility that a purist couldn't accept. Instead of insisting that we eradicate all pain from this moment, instead of fretting about lingering grief, we recognize that our path continues to fold grace and trial together.
Your neighbor is suffering; members of your family are going through a tough time; friends have collided with an unexpected trial. As one who has accompanied Jesus on the way of his cross through to the glory of the resurrection, you can be present to those who are suffering with a testimony to a joy that follows--and a joy that arrives in the midst of pain. Your union with Jesus brings to this world a glimpse of the reality it desperately needs.

El Rincón Del Pastor
Después de semanas de morado, el Domingo de pasión nos trae las vestiduras rojas que veremos el Viernes Santo. Un lamentable color por lo que significa, cuando pudiendo representar el fuego del Espíritu Santo en cambio representa la sangre del cordero a punto de ser derramada. El pasaje de nuestro Evangelio de Lucas se abre con la Ultima Cena, cuando Jesús consagra su sangre como nuestra nueva bebida, trayéndonos a compartir en nombre de su sacrificio. Mientras que mesemos nuestros ramos de Palma y exclamamos saludos a un rey, el ya ve la corona echa de espinas que usará.
A menudo nuestra vida se entrelaza con momentos hermosos y trágicos al mismo tiempo, misterios gozosos y dolorosos mezclándose juntos. El acercarnos a Jesús significa descubrir lo complicado que son estas realidades: la Cruz trae la resurrección, Jesús resucitado todavía lleva las marcas de los clavos en sus pies y manos.
Esta capacidad cristiana de ver la alegría y la tristeza al mismo momento nos da una mansedumbre y humildad que un purista no podría aceptar. En vez de insistir en erradicar todo el dolor de este momento, en lugar de agonizar con persistente sufrimiento, reconocemos que nuestro camino continúa doblándose en gracia y pruebas juntos.
Su vecino está sufriendo; miembros de su familia están pasando por un momento difícil; amigos han caído en un juicio inesperado. Como persona que ha acompañado a Jesús en el camino de la Cruz a través de a la gloria de la resurrección, usted puede estar presente para esas personas que sufren, con un testimonio hacia la alegría que sigue---- y para una alegría que llega en medio de dolor y sufrimiento. Su unión con Jesús trae al mundo una visión de realidad que desesperadamente necesita.

When we give to the poor, God indeed pours hislove, peace and mercy into our hearts and into the hearts of those suffering in poverty.
In the month of March, through your gifts, t heSociety of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist 206 families, providing $4,700 in food, $4,800 for tility and rent bills. We also assisted a family of 8 who lost everything in the Camp Fire relocate to a new home in Missouri.

children to our Faith Formation program either to continue to form the children in knowledge and relationship with Our Lord, or if the children need a sacrament preparation, parents need to attend one of our Pre- Registration mandatory Parent Meetings. The dates and times are as follows:
Sunday May 12 and Sunday May 19. English sessions will be from 10:15am – 11:15am, right after the 9am mass in the parish hall.
Thursday, May 16 at 6:30pm -7:30pm.
At these meetings you will be informed on the programs we have to help you form your children in our beautiful faith and you will be able to set an appointment to register your children.
Our virtue for the past two weeks has been SINCERITY.
Sincerity is: truthfulness in words and actions; honesty and enthusiasm towards others. The opposing trait is to speak or act in a manner only to make oneself look good. We can cultivate sincerity by telling the whole truth; building trust by words and actions; stating what one is sorry for.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd In the Atrium
This week in the atrium the children have been visiting the places and events of Jesus’ last days before His death. Using a three-dimensional model, we have traced His steps from the Last Supper in the upper room to his arrest at the Garden of Olives. We have followed Him from Pontius Pilate at the Praetorium to Calvary. We have contemplated His death on the cross, being laid in the tomb, and His glorious resurrection. In this way we are able to prayerfully contemplate the Paschal Mystery as a historical reality and the greatest mystery of love.

We need individuals and families to participate in the Walk for Life fundraiser for A Woman’s Friend. So what can you do? Call Betty 632-3615 for a pledge form today, then ask friends, neigh- bors, family or co-workers to sponsor you. Once again our Clergy will participate and they are asking you to sponsor them with a monetary pledge. You will have the opportunity to do so April 27/28 after Mass or call Betty.

This Movie is based on the true story of Abby Johnson’s transformation from being one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation to an amazing pro- life advocate. This Movie is rated R – those under 17 need to be accompanied by an adult. How ironic! 9 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Next weekend, many churches provide palms to be carried in the opening moments of the liturgy, as we gratefully recall Je- sus’ entry into the holy city of Jerusalem. The children who greeted him on that day used what was both handy and tradi- tional, since palms were carried to inaugurate the joyful har- vest feast of Succoth. To this day, faithful Jews are directed to take a beautiful palm branch, green and straight as possible, called a lulav, and bind it with three myrtle branches fifteen inches long, and two longer willow branches. At the end of the temple service, everyone carries the lulav, circling the sanctu- ary in a dance called the Hoshanot, singing hymns of joy.
In other climates, Jews and Christians alike have had to make accommodations over the years. In Italy, everyone car- ries olive branches today, often brought from their own gar- den. In England, forsythia branches are preferred, a relative of the olive, sign of peace. Germans prefer pussywillows, and others look for flowering spring branches. Our Lady of Camarin, Santa Marian Kamalen, Pa- troness of the Mariana Islands, floated into the shores of Merizo village escorted by two crabs with lit votive candles on their backs over 340 years ago.
Made of ironwood, which does not float, her arrival by way of the sea was a miracle of itself. It is told that the status was in by a fisherman who presented her to his parish priest, who in turn presented it to the Spanish Governor. Legion relates that the fish- erman drew near to the statue repeatedly but it drifted away. It was until he was fully clothed him- self that the floating statue could be approached and touched. Our Lady was housed in a Merizo proa shed or Camarin (Kamalen is the Spanish-Chamoru word for the long narrow thatched structures that served as soldiers’ barracks) until she could be moved the Dulce Nombre de Maria Church in Agana, Guam, where it sits in a perch above the church’s al- tar; now the Basilica. Her feast day is celebrated on December 8th.
