Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension,
Today in the United States we celebrate Father's Day. Allow me to begin by extending to all of our fathers a most happy and blessed day! Thank you for all that you do for us, particularly your faithfulness to your family and most especially your children.
Today we celebrate in the church the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ. The Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ goes back to the 13th century, but it celebrates something far older: the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Curiously, this is one of the 10 holy days of obligation. The feast is officially celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and yet because of its importance, the day is always transferred to the following Sunday. Today, after the 12:30p.m. Mass, there will be a Eucharistic Procession through the streets. There will be two benedictions outside, the third and final one is celebrated in the church.
Each year during the month of June, Ascension’s Gay Fellowship sponsors a special Mass. This year the Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20th at 7:45p.m. This year at the Mass, we will have a special Candlelight Vigil “Remembering One Year After the Orlando Shooting” and “Showing Solidarity with Imprisoned Gay Chechens.” We need to stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable amongst us. Remember the words of the prophet Isaiah: “This is the one whom I approve: the lowly and afflicted one who trembles at my word.” All are invited to attend this Mass.
Last Sunday was the last day that our wonderful choir will be singing for this season. They begin their summer break and will return again at the beginning of September. Good music is an essential part of good liturgy. Thank you again to Preston and our choir for the uplifting and inspiring music at our Sunday and special liturgies.

Hoy celebramos el Día de los Padres en los Estados Unidos. ¡Permítanme comenzar extendiendo a todos nuestros padres de familia un muy feliz y bendecido día! Gracias por todo lo que hacen por nosotros, en particular su fidelidad a su familia y en especial a sus hijos.
Hoy celebramos en la iglesia la Solemnidad de Corpus Christi, el Cuerpo de Cristo. La Solemnidad de Corpus Christi o la Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo data del siglo 13, pero celebra algo mucho más antiguo, la institución de la eucaristía en la última cena. Curiosamente, éste es uno de los 10 días oficialmente el jueves después del domingo de la Santísima Trinidad y, sin embargo, por su importancia, el día siempre es transferido al siguiente domingo. Hoy después de la misa de las 12:30 de tarde, habrá una procesión eucarística por las calles. Habrá dos bendiciones afuera, la tercera y la final será celebrada en la iglesia.
Cada año durante el mes de junio, el Gay Fellowship de la Ascensión patrocina una misa especial. Este año, la misa será celebrada el martes, 20 de junio a las 7:45 de la noche. Este año tendremos en la misa una vigilia especial de velas “recordando un año después del tiroteo en Orlando” y “mostrando solidaridad con los presos chechenos gay”. Debemos mostrar solidaridad con los más vulnerables entre nosotros. El domingo pasado fue el último día que cantara nuestro maravilloso coro esta temporada. Comienzan sus vacaciones de verano y regresan a principios de septiembre. La buena música es una parte esencial de buena liturgia. Gracias otra vez a Preston y a nuestro coro por la música alentadora e inspiradora en nuestras liturgias de los domingos y días especiales.
