1.Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent.
2.Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meat-less meal is allowed. Two other meatmeat-less meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful.
5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Church year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

Beware of the Dark Side
Remember the Star Wars movies, in which the Dark Side was a symbol of evil? In our second reading Paul tells the Christians in Ephesus that they were once darkness. Paul uses darkness as a symbol of shame. Shame is not just sorrow for sins; it is the fear of being caught in sin, or of telling our weaknesses to another because we think the other will look down on us. Or you might fear the punishment you think you deserve. Paul was a sinner himself and was blinded when Jesus appeared to him, asking, "Why do you persecute me?" So he knew that the only way to be free of shame is not to hide sins, but to expose them. Does that mean we have to broadcast our sins on the evening news, or post them all on our social media pages? No; we just need to confess them to God and receive God's forgiveness. We can do this through the sacrament of reconciliation. The priest shows that God loves sinners, no matter what they have done. When you injure your arm, you explain how you hurt it, so the doctor knows how to treat it. If you wreck your car, you take it to the repair shop and tell the mechanics what is broken so they can repair it. In reconciliation we bring our sins to the priest so that we can experience forgiveness. You could leave your car at the shop overnight, with enough cash to make the repairs, but until you come back and claim your car, you will never know if it was fixed.
Sometimes other people try to shame us. In today's Gospel, Je-sus' disciples asked whose sin caused the man to be born blind. The Pharisees told the man that he was born in sin. Jesus, how-ever, told his disciples that the man had not sinned, and further-more, the Pharisees themselves were the sinners because they had judged the blind man. So when we know that God forgives us and still loves us, we don't have to fear what others might think. Let us instead hold our sins up to the light of forgiveness and be free of our shame.

The Influence of Catholic Education on the Life of a Child
Public schools cannot compare with the educational environment we provide at Holy Family Catholic School. Our students are well prepared by our academic program. We consistently receive positive feedback from both Montini Catholic High School and Immaculate Conception College Prep on how well our students perform. At Holy Family, special subjects like Technology, Art, Music, PE, and Spanish, and extracurricular activities including athletics, choir, chess, engineering, and guitar enrich the students’ academic experience. Our dedicated teachers, instructional assistants, Social Worker, and Interventionist coordinate efforts to meet the individual needs of all students. Furthermore, with plans to create an integrated library and technology lab, expand the Spanish language program, and hire a resource specialist, HFCS is ready to help your child meet the challenges of the future.
However, what really sets HFCS apart is our Catholic culture. In the Diocese of Joliet, our motto is: We Teach More! We strive to help our students see all that is true, good, and beautiful in the world and help them grow in their personal relation-ships with Jesus. In so doing, we further the mission of the Church to develop modern day Disciples of Christ. At HFCS, stu-dents realize they belong to something bigger. They begin to see how they can change the world. Why Holy Family Catholic School?
Grow in Christ.
Belong to Something Bigger.
Change the World!
