From the Pastor’s Desk
This weekend is not just Valentine’s Day – it’s World Marriage Sunday! Catholic throughout the world pause to recognize and celebrate the vocation of marriage. We are also in the Year of Mercy, which reminds us that marriage is a privileged place for mercy. Ingredients to a successful marriage include forgiveness, tenderness, and patience – none of which comes naturally! Thus Catholic couples are encouraged to pray together each day for the grace to live in friendship and peace. Consider the Book of Tobit, which recounts the story of Tobit and Sarah’s marriage celebration. On their wedding night, Tobit offers this beautiful prayer: “Now, Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine not because of lust, but for a noble purpose. Call down your mercy on me and on her, and allow us to live together to a happy old age.” With wisdom beyond his years, Tobit consecrates his marriage to the Lord, asking for an outpouring of God’s mercy. This supplication becomes the foundation for their life together. It is my hope that more couples remember God’s mercy in their marriage on a daily basis. Those who are united in prayer and seek God’s mercy will see their married love grow. God is the author of both mercy and marriage – the two go hand in hand.

Christ the King is doing something new to support the Bishop Griffin Center. A special box for donations will be located in the church vestibule, and each month an item for the center will be requested. Starting this month, the center is looking for deodorant. If you are able, please pick up some deodorant at the store and place it in the donation box. Thank you for helping us serve those who visit the Bishop Griffin Center.
You are invited to the Appalachian Project Appreciation Fundraiser. At this annual event you will meet and greet past and present participants of Christ the King/St. Catharine Appalachian Project. We are celebrating 22 years of service, and monies raised will benefit disadvantaged families in rural Scioto County. We will have food, fellowship, videos of our work, raffle prizes and more. Este fin de Semana no es solo el Día de San Valentín – ¡es el Domingo Mundial del Matrimonio! Los católicos de todo el mundo reconocen y celebran la vocación al matrimonio. También estamos en el Año de la Misericordia, lo que nos recuerda que el matrimonio es un lugar privilegiado para la misericordia. Los ingredientes para un matrimonio exitoso incluyen perdón, ternura y paciencia - ¡y ninguno de éstos se nos da por naturaleza! Animamos a las parejas a orar juntos cada día y abrirse a la gracia necesaria para vivir en amistad y en paz. Lean el Libro de Tobías, que cuenta la historia de la celebración del matrimonio de Tobías y Sara. La noche de bodas, Tobías hizo esta bella oración: "Ahora, Señor, tomo esta esposa mía no para satisfacer una pasión desordenada, sino para un propósito noble. Ten misericordia de ella y de mí, y concédenos llegar juntos a la vejez”. Con mucha sabiduría, Tobías consagra su matrimonio al Señor, pidiendo la efusión de su misericordia. Esta súplica se convierte en el fundamento de su vida juntos. Espero que más parejas recuerden la misericordia de Dios en su matrimonio diariamente. Los que están unidos en oración y buscan la misericordia de Dios, verán crecer su amor conyugal. Dios es el autor de la misericordia y el matrimonio - las dos van de la mano.

Lent Soup Suppers will take place on the following Wednesdays: February 24, March 2, and March 9. The dinners run from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. in the church basement. Members of the Family Life Committee provide soups, but also invite you to bring a soup to share. But don't let that request deter you from coming! No one leaves hungry! Our first supper will feature speakers from the Diocese of Columbus’ Office for Social Concerns. They will discuss Pope Francis’ Laudato Si, the pope’s appeal to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges. Please join us! (This event is bilingual.)
All Saints Academy Catholic School
We welcome the season of Lent and the opportunities it brings to draw us closer to God. We will be considering the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We will have weekly prayer services, weekly rosary, a prayer wall, and Friday Adoration. We will be learning let go of activities that take us away from God and separate us from each other. We will participate in almsgiving through Operation Rice Bowl, creating care packages for shelters and hospitals, and continuing our New Sock Donation Drive.
