Wisdom, a very scarce treasure!
“In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said: Whatever you ask I shall give you.”
I Kings 3;5
Put yourself in the place of Solomon how you respond to God's promise? "Ask what I shall give you"
Have you ever dreamt about it?
Do you know what you would ask for?
“I would ask for the moon” a lover may say. I would ask for a Visa card. I would ask for a house by the sea. I would ask to find true love. I would ask to not have to use any pain killers anymore...
We do not know what went through Solomon’s head in his vision when he was in the temple, but we do know for sure what he asked for “Give your servant, a listening heart to judge your people and to distinguish between good and evil”.
Solomon did not fall into the trap of selfish demands: health, money and love.
He asked for a heart that listens, an attentive mind to the mind of God, to learn how to make decisions that please God, he asked for wisdom to distinguish the good from the bad. He chose to live in harmony with God's will. God gave him wisdom, an attentive heart and everything else. He asked for what God can and wants to give His children.
God's Word tells us today: "be careful with our desires, be careful with what we ask for."
In order to ask for the right things we need a system of Christian values, we need to have our priorities very clear. Only from the wisdom of God, our priorities will be fair and healthy.
Only a heart that listens to God can find the essential.
Have a nice week.

Alex. “I hope to bring a Crosier accent rooted in Augus nian spirituality to my pastoral approach in the parish, and I very much look forward to ge ng to know and serving the parishioners of St. Greg’s!”

I Reyes 3
Fr. Andrés Arango
