Guide for Exchange Students
Dear Exchange Student,
Welcome to Dong-A University!
We are pleased to have you as our exchange student and we do hope you will enjoy your study and have a pleasant stay at DAU. The following is some important and helpful information. Please read it carefully, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us for further assistance.

1. About VISA and Alien Registeration Card
1.1 How to get Korea VISA
Exchange Students should apply for D-2 VISA for entering Korea.
You can get VISA at the nearest Korean embassy in your country with the Certificate of Admission and other materials that Korean embassy demands in each country.
1.2 Alien Registeration Card
1) Period : After arriving in Korea, you should register within 2weeks 2) Place : Busan immigration Office
3) Material : Passport, certificate of enrollment, 1 photo, fee(10,000won)
2. Arrivals
2.1 Arrival Date: 2015. Feb. 28th (Sat.)
※You can't enter Dormitory before Feb. 28th
2.2 Pick-up Service
※We will provide pick-up service on Feb. 28th (Sat) only.
※You must turn in the enclosed pick-up form by Feb 9. (Mon) via email.
3. Accommodation & Meals
3.1 Hanlim Dormitory
1) Cost : about 620,000KRW (meals not incl.) 2) Room : double occupancy
(facilities: bathroom, air-conditioning and heating equipment, desk, chair...) 3) Blanket & pillow not provided
4) Breakfast and dinner is provided in dormitory cafeteria.(2,500won/each meal)
3.2 Off-campus option(Donghwa Village)
※We have very limited availability, so most exchange students will stay in the dormitory. However, if you must live off-campus this is a possible option.
1) Cost(per person) : 450,000KRW + 300,000KRW deposit + utility 2) Room : 2 beds per room
(facilities: bathroom, A/C, washer, small kitchen) 3) Blanket & pillow not provided
4. Course Information
4.1 Regular Course
1) Period: 2015. Mar. 2 (Mon) ~ Jun. 16 (Thu) 2) Course registration: Mar. 2 (Mon) ~ Mar. 6 (Fri) 3) Mid-term exam: Apr. 20 (Mon) ~ 25 (Sat)
Final exam: Jun. 10 (Wed) ~ 16 (Thu) 4.2 Korean Language Course
1) Period
- 1st Quarter: 2015. Mar. 2(Mon.) ~ May 8(Fri.), (10weeks) - 2nd Quarter: 2015. Jun 1(Mon.) ~ Aug. 7(Fri.), (10weeks) 2) Placement Test : 2015. Mar. 2(Mon.)
3) Intermediate and Advanced levels are offered in the morning, and Beginner courses are offered in the afternoon
※ please remember!! Korean Language Class is free for all exchange students however, students can take the class as long as it does not intervene with their regular classes.

5. Insurance
Students enrolled at DAU are required to have adequate health insurance coverage while participating in the program. Students must turn in the copy of their insurance with the application form.
6. Buddy Program
Buddy program is joined by volunteer students who are currently studying at DAU.
Buddy is to provide a friendly assistance to newly-arriving exchange students so as to fit in the campus environment and life in Busan much easily.
Buddy will support exchange students in different ways, including:
1) Airport pick up
2) Showing you around the university and helping you register courses 3) Alien Registration Card
4) introducing Korean life(buy mobile, transportation, etc)

한림생활관(Hanlim Dormitory)
Hanlim dormitory has been in operation since 2002 to create a more convenient life for students and provide a space for comfort and relaxation. For the comfort and convenience of students, there are lounges, laundry rooms, gym, reading rooms, an Internet cafe, meeting rooms, well equipped showers and washrooms, and high-speed LAN cable.
● What is the Global Zone?
The Dong-A Global Zone was set up for international students and all for the entire Dong-A Student body. It opened on December, 2009. You can do various activities in the Global Zone including making new friends, studying foreign languages and killing time etc. I hope that many of you will come to the Global Zone to exchange cultures with us.
● Where is the Global Zone?
It is located on the 4th floor of the Main Admin. Bldg. at Hadan Campus.

9am~5pm, Mon~Fri
● What can we do in the Global Zone?
★ Watch TV & movies: Various international TV channels and DVDs are available.
Come and listen to the most updated news from your country!
★ Read books & magazines: We have many books, magazines, newspaper from overseas. If you are willing to learn about current issues, come to the Global Zone!
★ Study Korean: We have more than 400 Korean language textbooks.
The English, Chinese, Japanese and Mongolian editions are all available for you to use.
★ Study English

1. 버스 Bus
• 장소 Place : 3번 출구 Gate 3
• 13번 마을버스 탑승(공항-하단 지하철역) Take No.13 Bus(Airport-Hadan Subway Station)
• 약 40분 소요되며, 요금은 1000원입니다. It takes approx. 40 minute.(1,000won) • 하단지하철역 6번 출구에서 동아대학교 버스를 이용(무료)

2. 택시 Taxi
• 약 20~30분 소요되며, 요금은 9,000~12,000원입니다.
It takes 20~30 minute. The fare is 9,000~12,000won.
Busan(Gimhae) Airport to DAU(Seunghak Campus)
Busan Metropolitan City
Busan, a city of beautiful mountains, rivers and the sea, is also a important cultural city. With the Nakdong River bordering the city and superb natural scenery like Haeundae adding nationwide attraction, the city serves as a major nexus of cultural activities around the region. Also, Busan is the first international port city in Korea. Its location enables the city to serve as a main gateway for the Korean Peninsula and the entire Northeast Asian region.
1. Location
Geographically, Busan has the Straits of Korea to its south Ulsan to the north; Gimhae to the West. Cities that share almost the same latitude with
Busan include Jinhae and Gwangju in Korea, as well as Tokyo, Jeongsen, Algiers and Oklahoma City abroad.
Busan is eight hours ahead of GMT. As for its geopolitical location, the city comes at the Southern tip of a strip that connects Asia, Siberia and Europe. It also serves as a main gateway to the Pacific Ocean. This location places the city at the center of international sea transportation.
2. Climate
Busan is located at the southeastern most tip of the Korean peninsula and in the mid-latitude temperate zone, which has seasonal winds. It has four seasons : Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. The annual average temperature is 15°C. The annual average precipitation is 1,168.3mm. Busan has strong winds compared to other areas in Korea.
Spring begins in March and ends in late June. Cherry blossom trees bloom in late March. and the temperature is very comfortable in April, May and June. The rainy season at the end of June and July signals the beginning of the coming of the summer heat. The highest mean temperatures of around 32°C are at the end of July through mid-August. Fall is from early September through late-November. The weather is nice and cool at this time because of the continental high atmospheric pressure. Winter starts by the end of November and continues until February. but Busan rarely has any snowfalls. The average winter temperature is 3.8°C. Tourists can enjoy Busan throughout all seasons because of the nice weather and beautiful scenery. In summer, the city is crowded with visitors who come to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
