ONGRESSWorld Jurist Association (WJA) convertirá a Barranquilla en la Capital Mundial del Derecho durante su XXVII Congreso Bienal.
La WJA es una Organización No Gubernamental con estatus consultivo especial ante las Naciones Unidas. Destaca como un foro abierto donde jueces, abogados, Catedráticos y profesionales del derecho de más de 140 nacionalidades, trabajan y cooperan para reforzar y expandir el imperio de la ley.
WJA fue fundada en EE.UU en 1963, basada en el concepto original acuñado por Sir Winston Churchill de contribuir firmemente desde la sociedad civil a fortalecer el Estado de Derecho. En 1957, Churchill alabó el programa original propuesto y su objetivo de fortalecer el derecho internacional y sus instituciones. A su vez, Dwight Eisenhower respaldó la creación del World Through Law Center, hoy World Jurist Association, reconociendo la necesidad de una organización de estas características: “El mundo no tiene otra opción entre la fuerza y el derecho: si la civilización quiere sobrevivir, tiene que elegir la fuerza del derecho”.
Durante la reunión del Directorio de WJA del 06 de febrero de 2020 en Washington DC, EE.UU, se decidió celebrar el próximo Congreso Bienal de la WJA en Colombia, coincidiendo con el 30 aniversario de la Constitución colombiana.
Actualmente, vivimos tiempos de grandes desafíos en un contexto de crisis de gobernanza mundial. La defensa del Estado de Derecho y el respeto a las libertades cobran una nueva relevancia, exigiendo el compromiso y responsabilidad de todos.
En este sentido, la WJA ha decidido honrar a la sociedad e instituciones colombianas, únicas en la región latinoamericana que se han mantenido incólume en la defensa del Estado de Derecho, conservando un impoluto historial democrático a pesar de las múltiples vicisitudes.

ROPÓSITOLa congregación de los más destacados juristas del mundo durante el World Law Congress Colombia 2021 quiere ser un reconocimiento de la comunidad jurídica internacional al inquebrantable compromiso de Colombia en la defensa, el fortalecimiento y la promoción del Estado de Derecho.
Asimismo, con ocasión de este congreso internacional, haremos un reconocimiento especial a una destacada personalidad o colectivo comprometido con la Paz a través del Derecho. En pasadas oportunidades, la WJA ha premiado a personalidades como Sir Winston Churchill, René Cassin, Nelson Mandela, el Rey de España Felipe VI, y Ruth B. Ginsburg, Magistrada de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos. Todos ellos han demostrado su indiscutible compromiso con el Estado de Derecho y la defensa de la Democracia y la Libertad.
Por otra parte, el programa se centrará en la promoción del Estado de Derecho como Instrumento para el Desarrollo de las Naciones, ofreciendo una visión integral de los grandes asuntos que preocupan a la humanidad y sobre los que el mundo del Derecho y la Justicia deben responder. Son temas que confluyen con los objetivos de la Agenda 2030 de las Naciones Unidas y la prosperidad a través del desarrollo sostenible. El programa integrará la visión de notorios juristas, empresas e instituciones, colombianas e internacionales, que respaldan el progreso de la humanidad, la convivencia en democracia y la libertad.
Para Colombia, el Congreso será motivo de gran orgullo y trascendencia, así como una oportunidad única de respaldar la estabilidad de su democracia y promover la Paz a través del Derecho.

ONGRESSWorld Jurist Association (WJA) will make Barranquilla the World Jurist Capital during its XXVII Biennial Congress. The WJA is a Non-Governmental Organization with special consultative status before the United Nations. It stands out as an open forum where judges, lawyers, professors and legal professionals from more than 140 nationalities work and cooperate to strengthen and expand the rule of law.
WJA was founded in the US in 1963, based on the original concept coined by Sir Winston Churchill of contributing firmly from civil society to strengthening the rule of law. In 1957, Churchill praised the proposed original program and its goal of strengthening international law and its institutions. In turn, Dwight Eisenhower supported the creation of the World Through Law Center, today the World Jurist Association, recognizing the need for an organization of these characteristics:
“The world has no other choice between force and law: if civilization wants to survive, it has to choose the force of law.”
During the WJA Board of Directors meeting on February 6, 2020, in Washington DC, USA, it was decided to hold the next WJA Biennial Congress in Colombia, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Colombian Constitution.
Currently, we are living in times of great challenges in a context of global governance crisis. The defense of the rule of law and respect for freedoms become new, demanding the commitment and responsibility of all. In this sense, the WJA has decided to honor Colombian society and institutions, unique in the Latin American region that have remained colorless in the defense of the rule of law, preserving an immaculate democratic record despite multiple vicissitudes.

URPOSEThe congregation of the world's leading jurists during the World Law Congress Colombia 2021 aims to be recognition of the international legal community to Colombia's unwavering commitment to the defence, strengthening and promotion of the rule of law.
Likewise, on the occasion of this international congress, the WJA will make a special recognition to an outstanding personality or collective committed to Peace through Law. On previous occasions, the WJA has acknowledge personalities such as Sir Winston Churchill, René Cassin, Nelson Mandela, the King of Spain Felipe VI, and Judge Ruth B. Ginsburg, a leading member of the Supreme Court of the United States. All of them have demonstrated their unquestionable commitment to the rule of law and the defence of Democracy and Freedom.
On the other hand, the program will focus on the promotion of the Rule of Law as Instrument for the Development of the Nations, offering an integral vision of the great issues that concern humanity and on which the world of Law and Justice must respond. These are topics that converge with the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and prosperity through sustainable development. The program will integrate the vision of notorious jurists, companies, and institutions, Colombian and international, which support the progress of humanity, the coexistence in democracy and freedom.
For Colombia, Congress will be a source of great pride and transcendence, as well as a unique opportunity to support the stability of its democracy and promote Peace through Law.
