OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH AND A MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY

This month of October, the Church reminds us of the sanctity and dignity of life from its conception to natural death. Our parish joins all the other churches in one chorus, that as Catholics, we are a family of God with a rich heritage that requires each of us to stand firm in our conscience to defend, respect and value LIFE.

The culture of death which has attacked all forms of life in our society must inspire us to seek all the more God’s graces and His light. This month, as it is also dedicated to the Holy Rosary, we lift up all our prayers, joys and afflictions to our merciful God through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary. As said, "Since the prayers of the Rosary come from such excellent sources — from Our Lord Himself, from inspired Scripture, and from the Church — it is not surprising that the Rosary is so dear to our Blessed Mother and so powerful with heaven.” In praying the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, let us pray for the RESPECT of LIFE and pray for peace in our society and of the whole world.

Saint Felicitas Parish also joyfully informs you that we will celebrate our second annual celebration of Our Lady of Fatima on October 13

th

at 6:30 p.m. We will have the celebration of the Holy Mass, pray the Holy Rosary in different languages, serenade the Blessed Mother and offer flowers. A procession will follow from the church to the school gym and there will be a fellowship where we will share different foods from each culture comprising our parish. Everyone is encouraged and welcomed to join us in this blessed and joyful festivity honoring Our Lady of Fatima and invoking her powerful and motherly intercession.

A brief history of Our Lady of Fatima is given below.

A Brief Look at the History of Our Lady of Fatima

Our Blessed Mother appeared to three simple shepherd children six times in 1917 so they could warn the world of upcoming trials and tribulations. The three children were, siblings Jacinta, age 7, and Francisco Marto, age 9, and their cousin Lucia Dos Santos, age 10. The apparition is also referred to as Our Lady of the Rosary (a term first used in 1208 for the reputed apparition in the church of Prouille), because the children said the apparition called herself the "Lady of the Rosary".

The events at Fatima gained fame due to elements of secrets, prophecy and eschatology, particularly with regard to World War II and possibly more World Wars in the future. Chief among these is also the alleged urgent need for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The reported apparitions at Fatima were officially declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church.

In all her appearances at Fatima, the Blessed Mother repeatedly emphasized the necessity of praying the Rosary daily, of wearing the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and of performing acts of reparation, sacrifice and conversion of sinners and world peace.

The shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal sees thousands and millions of faithful pilgrims each year. Now more than ever, our world needs the rosary. Pray the rosary daily! As said, “The family that prays together stays together.”

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the

Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. AMEN!”

Jubilee Year of Mercy — October 2, 2016 Jubilee of Marian Devotion begins next Saturday

“How long, O L ?” (Habakkuk 1:2). With Habakkuk’s question echoing across twenty-six hundred years, Respect Life Sunday finds all life claiming sanctuary in our hearts: unborn infant, senior citizen, immigrant and refugee, imprisoned and addicted, people burdened with illness and disabilities of body, mind, or spirit. Even Earth, Pope Francis notes in Laudato Si’, bears scars of disrespect for the life she nurtures and sustains. Life is still threatened, as in Habakkuk’s day, with ruin and misery, “destruction and violence, . . . strife and clamorous discord” (see 1:3). Since our efforts so often seem ineffective, we “unprofitable servants” cry with the apostles, “Increase our faith” (Luke 17:10, 5).

But Jesus’ reply might be paraphrased, “Not quantity—

quality.” Next weekend marks the Jubilee Y ear of Mercy’s special devotion to Mary, whose willingness to shelter Jesus in her womb and stand at the foot of his cross bears witness to the qualities that Jesus expects our faith to manifest: the willingness to trust, to risk, and to

dare to speak up for life.
