FIRST FRIDAYS: IN DETAIL
Primeros viernes: en detalle
This Friday, August 5, we will celebrate yet another set of First Friday Devotions, focused of course on the celebration of the Mass and the reception of Holy Communion.
Many of us have been practicing this observance of the first Friday of every month since we were children.
In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be looking closely at this powerful celebration of love and faith. For now, please read again the promises Our Lord and Savior made in the late seventeenth century to a French ascetic named St. Margaret Mary Alocoque.
These overwhelming graces await those who practice the First Fridays, nine in succession, with a deep devotion to His Sacred Heart.
1. I will give them all of the graces necessary for their state of life.
2. I will establish peace in their homes.
3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
4. I will be their strength during life and above all during death.
5. I will bestow a large blessing upon all their undertakings.
6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Tepid souls shall grow fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
9. I will bless every place where a picture of my heart shall be set up and honored.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant all to those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.
Este viernes 5 de agosto celebraremos otra serie de Devociones del Primer Viernes, centradas por supuesto en la celebración de la Misa y la recepción de la Sagrada
Comunión. Muchos de nosotros hemos estado practicando esta observancia del primer viernes de cada mes desde que éramos niños.
En las próximas dos semanas, estaremos observando de cerca esta poderosa celebración de amor y fe. Por ahora, lea nuevamente las promesas que Nuestro Señor y Salvador hizo a finales del siglo XVII a una asceta francesa llamada Santa Margarita María Alocoque.

The ACTS Retreat experience is rooted in the Pascal Mystery in that retreatants are invited to reflect on the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Throughout the weekend, they are invited to prayerfully consider how they can respond to His love by spiritually surrendering to Jesus in order to have new life with Him. This invitation is extended through the pillars of the apostolate:
Adoration: A response to God's love through prayer and worship
Community: Participating in the One Body of Christ as Church Theology: Deepening our relationship with God in order to better fulfill His will
Service: Answering the call to discipleship by following the model He gave us
La experiencia del Retiro ACTS tiene sus raíces en el Misterio Pascual en el que se invita a los participantes a reflexionar sobre la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Registration for First Communion and Confirmation Classes will begin August 6th & 7th after all Masses. Grades 6-8 and above for Confirmation. In order to register your child, you must be a registered parishioner. Grade 2 and above for First Communion.
Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate. Registration is $20.

I once knew a godly woman who had truly tasted the bitterness of this earthly life. This woman knew pain. She knew sacrifice. She knew hard labor and loss, including the death of a cherished child.
She worked each day at a low-paying job, waiting patiently for her 65th birthday, when she could retire and devote herself full-time to her grandchildren. She crossed off the dwindling days on her calendar like a first grader waiting for Christmas.
Ninety-eight days before she was set to retire, she died suddenly.
Her name was erased from the schedule at work and penciled over with that of her replacement hire.
All things are vanity.
I think we all know someone like this, don’t we? If the details aren’t exactly the same, the outline of the story is: someone labors “with wisdom and knowledge and skill,” in the words of Ecclesiastes. And what profit comes to him? Sorrow and grief all his days. The proverbial barn filled with harvest and left to rot.
But I’ll let you in on a secret: this isn’t a sad story. I’ve only told you part of it. This woman heard, daily, the voice of God, and against it she never hardened her heart, whatever news it brought her. This woman loved as hard as she worked. Every action was a form of evangelization. To talk to her was to feel the embrace of Christ.
As much as she waited for that retirement that never came, it was never the harvest in her barn. This is what it means to be a true steward: to seek what is above.
Una vez conocí a una mujer piadosa que realmente había probado la amargura de esta vida terrenal. Esta mujer conocía el dolor. Ella conocía el sacrificio. Baptism
Parents:
Must be parishioners of the Cathedral and be registered at least 1 month before baptism.
They must present a copy of the child's birth certificate so that all names are spelled correctly on the baptismal certificate.
Godparents:
They must be married by the Catholic Church and they must present their marriage certificate (a photo is acceptable).
They have to be confirmed and they must present their certificate of confirmation (a photo is acceptable).
Single sponsors:
They must be over 16 years old.
They must present a copy of their confirmation certificate.
Parents who are not parishioners:
If you want your child to be baptized in the Cathedral, parents must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they are registered, and all the documents mentioned above. (For example, when the godparents are parishioners and the parents come to the Cathedral from another parish to baptize.)
All must present a certificate or letter verifying that they took the baptism class.
Baptism Classes in English:
1st Wednesday of the month at
7:00 p.m. in the Marian Room; located on second floor of the parish office. Registration is required.
Baptisms:
Monthly on 2nd Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and monthly on 2nd Sundays at 11:15 a.m.
Please call the parish receptionist to register for Baptism class and/or arrange the baptism date at 263-6574.

Marriage
Congratulations on your future wedding! Please visit our website to request a wedding date (WichitaCathedral.com), or call the parish office at least 9 months prior to the desired date. Our Receptionist, Francesca Chavez, will receive your request and contact you to schedule your date. She will then put you in contact with Fr. Keiter or Fr. Shepherd for marriage preparation.

Quinceañeras
Requirements: Young women must be baptized, have received First Communion, and have been confirmed or are currently in Confirmation Class. All Young women must also take a
Quinceañera class, which begins the second Tuesday of February/September .
Please contact the office at 263-6574 to begin the process of setting a date for the celebration. Thank you.
Bautismo
Papás:
Deben ser parroquianos de la Catedral, y estar registrados por lo menos 1 mes antes del bautismo.
