B- Professional Information
1 - Overall Aim of the Course
By the end of the program, the student should be able to: provide an introduction to the shapes of organic molecules and the basic princlples and nomenclature of stereogenic elements in organic molecules including chiral carbon, double bond, allenes, spiranes, biphenyls. In addition study different stereochemical asects on drug action. Furthermore, basics of aryl halides, nitro compounds, amines, diazonium salts and polynuclear organic compounds.
2 - Competency- Based NARS
Domain 1: Fundamental knowledge
1.1. Discuss the three-dimensional structure of organic molecules 1.2. Recognize enantiomers, diastereomers of different drugs
1.3. Discuss the relative stability of conformational isomers of cyclohexanes and related drugs.
1.4. Discuss stereochemical aspects in drug action
1.5. Recognise the chemistry of aryl halides, amines, diazonium salts and nitro compounds
1.6. Recognise the chemistry of polynuclear compounds.
Domain 2: Professional and ethical practice
2.1. Analyze the effect of presence of different stereo genic centers on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of certain drugs.
2.2. Explain and predict organic reactions of aryl halides, amines,
diazonium salts and nitro compounds as well as polynuclear compounds.
Domain 3: Pharmaceutical care
3.1. Improve presentation and self-expression skills.
3.2. Problem solving
3.3. Work effectively within a team
