T1 ADVANCES IN NUTRITION RESEARCH
Paralleled Symposia
Probiotics influence the innate and adaptive immunity and the activity of the intestinal microbiota. This lack is the main bottleneck for the consolidation/expansion of the health claims-based added values in the food sector.
T2 NUTRITION THROUGH LIFE COURSE
Selected B vitamins and antioxidant vitamins were analyzed as part of the HELENA study. This may be due to characteristics of the food (bitter taste, low energy density), characteristics of the child (fussy eating, neophobia) or parenting practices (vegetables infrequently offered).
T3 PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION AND ENVIRO- MENT
Randomization was stratified by country with 60 villages receiving the intervention and 60 continuing with usual practices. The sodium reduction program consists of community health education and a food supply strategy designed to promote the use of salt substitutes by the village convenience stores. price of salt substitute is provided to 30 intervention villages. Nutritional profiling is 'The science of classifying or ranking foods according to their nutritional composition for reasons related to the prevention of disease and the promotion of health'. PS4-51 Nutrition, physical activity and the prevalence of NCDs in the Middle East and North Africa.
BUILDING RESEARCH CAPACITY IN NUTRITION TO PREVENT NCDS IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA. Without counteractive actions, the WHO expects the strongest increments (almost 25%) in the African and Eastern Mediterranean regions. Building research capacity in nutrition in the MENA region is therefore of great importance.
Institutional capacity building in nutrition in the MENA countries needs further development, both in education and research. Background and Objectives: Selective micronutrient deficiencies, particularly anemia, are of public health concern in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In the US, studies have reported considerable variation in the association of HFI with obesity.
T4 NUTRITION AND MANGEMENT OF DISEA- SES
WCRF/AICR developed a new protocol as part of the Continuous Update Project to capture and review. Acknowledgments: The ToyBox study is funded by the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission (grant 245200). Acknowledgment: The ToyBox study is funded by the Seventh Framework Program (CORDIS FP7) of the European Commission under grant agreement no. 245200.
Acknowledgments: The ToyBox study is funded by the Seventh Framework Program (CORDIS FP7) of the European Commission under grant agreement no. 245200. BACKGROUND, RATIONALE, AND STUDY DESIGN OF THE INTERNATIONAL CHILD WEIGHT STUDY The results of this study will provide a robust examination of the correlates of body weight.
Kenya was one of the countries that participated in the International Study of Childhood Obesity, Lifestyle and Environment (ISCOLE). Data collection included characteristics of the children (lifestyle, diet and physical activity questionnaires and accelerometry), family, neighborhood and school environment. Longitudinal models were used to examine the effect of the interventions on weight from 0-28 weeks.
T5 NUTRIENTS AND NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENT
On the other hand, malnutrition exists in many parts of the world, especially in vulnerable population groups. Background and Aims: The success of interventions to control micronutrient deficiencies depends on a combination of the biological effectiveness of increasing nutrient intake and the effectiveness of reaching target groups. The aim of the review was to gather information on the nutritional status and micronutrient intervention efforts in the five 'SMILING' countries, thereby identifying priority issues to be addressed.
STATE OF THE ART OF INTERVENTIONS TO CONTROL MICRONUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES IN CHILDREN AND WOMEN. Ten new grants have been funded to address aspects of the three core foci. Keywords: Survey, micronutrients, toolkit, manual. Periodic cross-sectional surveys of the vitamin and mineral status and coverage of interventions within the population are an important component of micronutrient programs.
Iron deficiency (ID) and ID anemia (IDA) remain one of the major malnutrition problems in China. National Institute of Nutrition, Hanoi, Vietnam Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia remain one of the major problems in Vietnam. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of this multi-fortified rice on improving vitamin A status in school children in southern Thailand.
T6 FUNCTIONAL FOODS AND BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS
We will investigate the effect of a high-protein, low-glycemic index diet compared to the officially recommended diet in combination with moderate or high-intensity physical activity on the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Finally, it appears to be a disruption of the epigenome that causes excessive proliferation of smooth muscle cells , also involved in the development of atherosclerotic lesions. Vitamins are protective factors in preventing DNA damage, but in high doses they can also become potential promoters.
However, the contribution of nutritional factors to the prevention of osteoporotic fractures in the elderly is still largely unknown. In this WP9, an inventory of biomarkers that have already been measured in different groups has been made. In this study, data on measurements of the mentioned biomarkers and quality control data will be provided.
In the EPIC cohort, whole grain intake was measured by plasma levels of the phenolic lipid alkylresorcinols, a validated biomarker for whole wheat and rye intake. The non-prebiotic effects of NAGs are related to their beneficial effects on allergy and a possible role in gut defense. The complex microbial ecosystem in the human colon is known to have a profound effect on health.
T7 FOOD CULTURE AND NUTRITIONAL EDU- CATION
Several facts related to the nutritional value of food need to be mentioned – the development of new food formulations, the application of new technology in the food industry, changes in agricultural production (animals and plants), the introduction of new food packaging to extend shelf life. and an increase in food imports, which had not happened before. On the other hand, more than 80% of the Chinese population had heavy work-related physical activities. Therefore, actions should be considered to improve the vitamin D and calcium status of the Vietnamese population.
The overall objective of the association is to promote the advancement of nutrition science and the interest of professional nutritionists in the Middle East and North Africa. Dietary diversity in Northeast India is reflected in better nutritional status of the population overall, lower rates of stunting, wasting and underweight among children compared to the rest of India. The implications of changing food systems in Northeast India may pose serious public health challenges.
Furthermore, following the Mediterranean diet appears to provide further protection for all individual components of the syndrome. AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center addresses constraints in the vegetable value chain through four research and development themes – germplasm, breeding, production and consumption – to contribute to increased productivity, profitability, vegetable availability and nutritional status of consumers in developing countries , especially in Africa and Asia. The FAO definition of food security (FAO, 1996) requires that all people have access at all times to an adequate supply of food of their choice, to maintain health, growth and continued development (emphasis mine).
T8 AGRICULTURE, FOOD SCIENCE AND SAFE- TY
Although dietary supplements and fortified foods may contribute to meeting nutrient intake standards, they do not appear to provide many of the health benefits of food sources of nutrients, particularly in the prevention of chronic disease. Food composition data specialists play an important role in the implementation of food labeling policies. Another current and relevant aspect is the identification, in the food composition database, of the food item down to the cultivar/variety/breed level, which is essential for evaluating the impact of food biodiversity on nutrition.
University of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland The prevalence of obesity and diabetes has increased over the past century. DIETARY HABITS AND THE USE OF LOW-COLORED SWEETENERS: AN EFFECTIVE AID IN THE PREVENTION OF OBESITY AND DIABETES. Recent analyzes based on 5 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) investigated both demographic and temporal trends in LCS consumption in the US.
In the case of a scientist, one of the most challenging tasks is substantiating health claims because of the difficulty in detecting physiological benefits in healthy individuals. It is also expected that personalized nutrition will limit the marketing of functional foods in the future. In the US, the only chain before World War II was the Great Atlantic & Pacific (A & P).
Oral Communications
6Medical School, Nippon University, Tokyo, Japan Background and Objectives: Diabetes is becoming so widespread in the world that the UN issued a political warning declaration. Background and aims: Leptin (LEP) is a hormone secreted mainly from adipose tissue and plays a role in food intake and energy expenditure by activating the leptin receptor (LEPR). 1 Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, China CDC Background and Objectives: Previous research showed that Wenchuan ground quack caused serious nutritional problems in infants in the affected regions in 2008.
Information about the financial conflicts of interest reported by the authors in the manuscript was also abstracted. Background and Objectives: Sixteen of the largest food and beverage manufacturers in the United States joined together to form the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF). No association with tumors located in the cardia or of the diffuse subtype was found for any of the nine SNPs analyzed.
Diastolic blood pressure decreased in all cases, except in the females of the NE-TG group. Conclusion: The introduction of state-of-the-art technology for body composition assessment provides an opportunity to explore a wide range of applications, within Kuwait as well as in the Gulf region. The most striking variations were observed in subscapular and thigh skin folds, as well as in the fat area.
