ABOUT THE MEETING
Introduction
On behalf of the Organising Committee, we are pleased to invite the scientific community attending the 3rd Meeting of the Spanish Society of Chromatography and Related Techniques (SECyTA), which will be held in Almería (Spain), from the 19th - 21st November 2003. The aim is to provide a communication forum for knowledge and technology transfer among scientists interested in chromatography and related techniques and their applications.
The SECyTA Society has recently evolved from the former GCTA Group.
SECyTA brings together the main Spanish chromatographers, which includes over 500 members, and more than 20 collaborating companies.
This is the third meeting following the two previous successful ones in Valencia and Barcelona. During this event the Annual General Meeting of this association will be held.
On this occasion, The SECyTA has invited two other associated groups to give their support and join in – The Waste Water Cluster and The European-Mediterranean Association- Environmental Education Assessment and Protection. These two groups are very well-known and they have already convened a series of meetings which were greatly relevant and productive such as those held in 1999 (Porto, Portugal) and 2001 (Mainz, Germany).
In this next conference that will be held in Almería, two new projects on wastewater, funded by the European Union-DG Research (Environment Directorate), will be presented in parallel sessions: P-THREE (Removal of Persistent Polar Pollutants Through Improved Treatment of Wastewater Effluents) and CADOX (A Coupled and Advanced Oxidation-Biological Process for Recycling of Industrial Wastewater Containing Persistent Organic Contaminants), that consider different techniques of elimination, like membranes, photocatalysis, biological treatments and the analysis of pollutants at different steps of wastewater treatment. The topics and speakers are listed below.
Main Topics
Main topics include:
- Gas Chromatography / High-Performance Liquid Chromatography - Supercritical Fluid Chromatography and Extraction
- Capillary Electrophoresis
- Multidimensional and Hyphenated Techniques - On-line Techniques and Automatization
- Sample Preparation / Miniaturization in separation methods - Chiral Separations
And their applications to Environmental, Pharmaceutical, Food and Biochemical analysis. Other specific topics will be:
- Wastewater Analysis and The Contamination - Remediation and Disinfection
- Advanced Wastewater treatment

Location and Venue
Almería is an Andalusian city located at the south-east corner of Spain, on the Mediterranean coast. Founded in the 9th century, when the south of Europe started to be dominated by the Arabians, Almería was growing around its Moorish Castle, La Alcazaba, which is still today the symbol of the city. Actually, Almería is a prosperous city, whose economy is based on both tourism and intensive agriculture. With unique climate conditions, wild and wonderful beaches, excellent tourist facilities, and the vicinity of other important historical and tourist centres (Granada 180 km and Malaga 220 km) you can enjoy in Almería a multitude of recreational and cultural activities.
The Playadulce Hotel**** is the venue of the meeting. It is ideally situated in the Almería Beach Resort Area, right at the beach of Aguadulce, and very well served by public transport from/to both Almería airport (15 km) and Almería city centre (9 km). The Hotel has an excellent position next to the Mediterranean Coast, special conference rooms and exhibition halls available, as well as very comfortable and well-equipped rooms. The Playadulce Hotel, the perfect setting for mixing business and relaxation, offers gardens with outside swimming pool and direct access to the beach, tennis courts, heated indoor pool, restaurant, Bar, Pub and Snack-Bar.
