Introduction

Supersymmetry (SUSY) is a theoretical extension of the Standard Model

I Would provide a solution to the hierarchy problem

I Lightest supersymmetric particle is a Dark Matter candidate (neutralino) Third generation squarks (stop and sbottom) expected to be light

I Could be produced in pairs at the LHC

I Different final states and decay modes studied depending on SUSY parameters

(4)

Sbottom

Direct production of sbottom pairs

Latest ATLAS results published with 36.1fb−1(arXiv:1708.09266v1) Decay through bottom or top quark and neutralino→final states with two b-jets andETmiss

Optimized separately depending on ∆m=m˜t−mχ˜

Two sets of Signal Regions

I No leptons: Targeting decay through bottom quarks

I One lepton: Targeting scenario with one or two tops Common signal region selection: 2 b-jets,Njets≤4

All-hadronic

b0L-SRA: Large ∆m. Bins on main discriminant variablemCT, withmbb>200, andETmiss>250 GeV

b0L-SRB: Intermediate ∆m.

Main discrimination through mminT (jet1−4,ETmiss)>250 GeV SRC: Low ∆m, sbottom pair produced in association with ISR jet. One jet withpT>500 GeV andETmiss>500 GeV required

One-lepton

b1L-SRA: Large ∆m. LargeETmiss andETmiss/√

HT are required, and mT,amT2andmbbare used for further discrimination

b1L-SRB: Compressed mass scenario.mminT (b,ETmiss) b1L-SRA300-2j: Compressed mass. Similar to b1L-SRA but only the two b-jets are required, andmeff >300 GeV.

(5)

Background estimation

Dedicated Control Regions are designed to constrain the main backgrounds in the Signal Region

Independent CRs are designed for the one and zero-lepton SRs, except for Single Top A simultaneous profile likelihood fit is then performed on all the regions to estimate the background in the SRs

Control Regions

I Z→ννfrom aZ→``Control Region

I W+jetsfrom a one-lepton CR

I t¯tfrom a 1-lepton region

I Single Topfrom a 1-lepton region

Good agreement found in all regions

(6)

Results

No excess found over standard model expectation Limits set on the masses of the supersymmetric particles

(7)

Stop searches

Several analyses exploring different final states

I All hadronic

I 1 lepton in the final state

I 2 leptons in the final state

I Decay through Z or H bosons

Main process targeted: Direct production of stop pair

Different decay modes for different areas of the Stop-neutralino mass plane Dedicated optimization for the different topologies of the mass plane

I High ∆m(˜t,χ˜0): Dominated by ˜t→t+ ˜χ0. Boosted tops and HighETmiss

I ∆m(˜t,χ˜0)∼m(t)SmallerETmiss, recursive jigsaw techniques used to discriminate signal and background

I m(t)>∆m(˜t,χ˜0)>m(W) +m(b): Dominated by ˜t→b+W+ ˜χ±

I ∆m(˜t,χ˜0)<m(b) +m(W)Dominated by ˜t→bff0χ˜0

(9)

Signal Region overview

Common selection for signal regions:≥2 b-jets,≥4 jets, and largeETmiss

Divide events into three categories depending on the top reconstruction→mass of the reclustered R=1.2 jets

Top categories

I TT: Two reconstructed tops,m1,2antikt12>120 GeV

I TW: One reconstructed top, one W,m1antikt12>120 GeV, 60<m2antikt12<120 GeV

I T0: One reconstructed top,m1antikt12>120 GeV,mantikt122 <60 GeV

Different SRs depending on ∆m=m˜t−mχ˜0:

I SRA: Direct stop to top neutralino→large stop-neutralino mass splitting

F Boosted scenario: LargeETmiss

I SRB: Direct stop to top neutralino→small stop-neutralino mass splitting

F LowerETmiss

I SRC: Direct stop to top neutralino→stop-neutralino mass splitting∼mt

F No categories, use of ISR variables to discriminate from ttbar

SRD: Direct stop to b chargino

I Higher jetpT, high reconstructed top mass SRE: Gluino mediated stop

I Very boosted tops
