Parallel activities

The Scientific program of the SEBBM Meeting is comple- mented with a diffusion event entitled Biochemistry in the City, a research introductory course for students, and a professional development workshop for young researchers.

The Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) is the leading scientific society supporting the advancement of all aspects of Bio- chemistry and Molecular Biology in Spain. The SEBBM was founded in 1963 and currently has over 3,100 members.

The SEBBM contributed significantly

to the creation of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) in 1964, represents Spain in the Inter- national Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), and is one of the founding members of the Con- federation of Scientific Societies in Spain (COSCE).

¿WHAT IS

THE SEBBM?

The SEBBM annual meeting has a rich tradition of bringing together attendees from academia, research and industry (currently over 700) who can present their work in more than 200 oral presentations and 500 panel presentations. The program includes plenary sessions, symposia and theme-focused meetings of the various SEBBM Scientific Groups and collaborator entities. The biochemical societies of Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Portugal, as well as the Panamerican Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB) are regular colla- borators of the SEBBM Meeting.

The SEBBM Journal was born along with the Society. Published every three months, it is dedicated to scientific culture, analyzing and reflecting on public and private research policies, and promoting the social values of science.

Each of its issues focuses on a specific subject related to the latest and most relevant scientific, cultural and social events.

THE SEBBM JOURNAL

At the SEBBM, we know that technological advances are key to further our knowledge, but we need to turn science into a product and help it to reach society in all its dimensions. That is why it is our goal as a Society to work hand- in-hand with technology enterprises. To that end, we have implemented a wide range of mechanisms to facilitate their participation in all activities of the SEBBM, and we work daily to find new ways that can be adapted to meet everyone’s needs and enable links to be strengthened. Because it is in everyone’s interest to make our science a reality.

SCIENTIFIC DIFFUSION

The SEBBM carries out complemen- tary activities throughout the year to inform and promote Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, including webinars on the latest research and develop- ments of interest to our members, a scientific photo competition, exhi- bitions, conferences, workshops and

specialist courses in collaboration with universities and research centers. It also participates in the Science Week and the Researcher’s Night and colla- borates with the Instituto Cervantes to disseminate and promote the scientific work carried out in Spain at home and abroad.
