Planning and production control in the medium term for textile industry model in a make to order environment

Simultaneous planning and scheduling of multistage multiproduct batch plants with non-identical parallel units and sequence-dependent changeovers

Simultaneous planning and scheduling of multistage multiproduct batch plants with non-identical parallel units and sequence-dependent changeovers

In this work, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for the simultaneous planning and scheduling of a batch plant over different time periods is proposed. Deterministic variations in prices, product demands limits, costs, and raw materials availability due to seasonal or market fluctuations are included in this approach. The operation policy based on mixed product campaigns (MPCs) is adopted in order to reduce idle times, increase unit utilization, and avoid inventory buildups of materials. The objective is to determine the detailed production planning scheme, inventory levels, and raw material consumption that allow fulfilling customer demand limits at the maximum benefits.

Milk routing and scheduling problem

Milk routing and scheduling problem

The vehicle routing currently used for collecting milk, is a system that primarily benefits large farmers in the country, since it provides benefits in the level of price paid per liter of milk pro- duced, and in turn provides a bargaining power against large milk processing companies. Small and medium farmers who produce milk in very small volumes, often receive a low price for their production, which is why there is a low fidelity in terms of the processing company which will acquire the final product, which argue the low prices paid to producers in the high transport costs. The objective of this graduation project is to evaluate the implementation of a vehicle routing algorithm, which taking into account the specific characteristics of Colombian dairy chain, such as road conditions, characteristics of the product to be transported (perishability), different types of producers. In order to achieve a better planning and organization in the supply chain of milk processing companies, which will be reflected in a reduction in business costs and greater integration of small and medium producers.

Planning and community development: case studies

Planning and community development: case studies

Since the first rural development programmes were introduced in Europe, the United States and other Western countries in the latter half of the 19th century, a great deal has been achieved but few would claim that the economic and social problems facing rural communities have been solved. As suggested earlier, poverty and deprivation among rural people as well as inequitable access to services and opportunities remain widespread. In addition, many working in the rural development field believe that rural people are not fully involved in decision making or implementing the programmes and projects designed to improve their wellbeing. This is not a new problem and indeed, since the introduction of the first rural development programmes an expert, top-down approach which sees rural people as the passive recipients of services and resource allocations has continued to exert a strong effect. Of course, this was the explicit intention of the first rural development programmes which sent agricultural extension workers into rural communities to advise farmers on agricultural techniques on the assumption that their traditional methods were outdated and in need of modernization. Rural people who failed to respond enthusiastically to this advice were often branded as ignorant and bound by traditional superstition. Their genuine concerns about adopting new methods and taking risks by abandoning well tried approaches were not addressed. On the other hand, those who cooperated were often rewarded with additional resources and expertise. This tendency was particularly marked in the nations of the Global South that were under European imperial rule where colonial officials too often held ill-informed prejudices about the people they ruled.

Tourism planning and competitiveness in Ecuador

Tourism planning and competitiveness in Ecuador

Advertising is just an element that is part of a general whole, therefore, if all aspects have not been taken into account when creating, designing and marketing the product or services, it is useless to make a large investment in advertising. The definition of customer satisfaction has been widely addressed, emphasizing various elements and diversifying its design. According to what has been stated by various authors, satisfaction corresponds to the perception of consumers, which is complex to measure objectively, especially in tourism given the nature of the product (González Uribe, Quiroz Rodríguez & Gascón & Diana, 2014). According to Martín and Díaz (2016), regardless of the type of process used to provide the services, the physical presence of the client during the service itself determines the rest of the decisions taken in the field of the operations strategies of the service companies. With regard to tourism marketing and services, it can be added that the influence displayed by the Internet before, during and after a tourist trip is progressive, since it makes it possible to plan the activities to be carried out during a trip including comments on it through the networks social (Carrera & Vega, 2017).

On a selection and scheduling problem in automatic storage and retrieval warehouses

On a selection and scheduling problem in automatic storage and retrieval warehouses

Table 2.: Results concerning the set of cages to be extracted after solving phase 1 It can be observed that in DR scenarios the number of cages to be extracted is around 13% larger than in the corresponding DABC scenarios, being the total extraction time around 41% larger. This result was expected since in DR scenarios any reference is equally likely to be demanded, and thus there may be demanded items for which very few available cages exist and they have to be extracted even in the case they are placed very far away from the I/O point. It is also important to note that the smallest average extraction times are obtained for the SR scenarios, showing that using storing policies SABC or SHCC do not improve extraction times with respect to the random storing policy. This may seem surprising at first glance, but it should not be: it indicates that most abundant references are not a problem, because there exist many alternatives for obtaining them; however, scarce references are more significant, because there are very few alternative cages containing them and they should not be stored far away from the I/O point.

Hybrid Optimization Techniques for Industrial Production Planning . Ph. D. Thesis, Dec 2008

Finally, it is concluded that hybrid optimization techniques are robust, less time-consuming, dependable, high quality solutions and an efficient productive tool for solving the non-linear real world problem in an industrial engineering environment. The hybrid line search with genetic algorithms and hybrid line search with simulated annealing techniques developed in this study are user friendly, easy-to-use and can serve as a teaching and research tool, besides being useful for practicing scientist in the area of industrial engineering.

Planificación de la producción en el Combinado Lácteo Santiago. Production planning in the Combinado Lácteo Santiago

A planning, programming and control of the production procedure is designed in this paper to consider all the technical and organizational aspects that are involved in planning, using the balance and normative method, and a variant of the General Algorithm for the Calculation of the Capacities. This procedure is supported by an innovative computer application designed to assist students, technicians and specialists in the planning stages. The procedure is applied in the company “Combinado Lácteo de Santiago de Cuba” to plan the production in 2016. As a result, an innovation of an organizational type is obtained that allows the Production Master Plan, disaggregated in the different time horizons, consider the real capacity of the plants. For its evaluation it was compared to the production plan prepared by the company and the actual production data of the first quarter of the year to determine the existing differences.

Next, we present the negotiation mechanism known as regret monitoring with fading memory and inertia (RM) proposed in [29], which is a method to achieve a NE in potential games. This method has two agreeable properties such as: i) RM can be implemented in decentralized form. In this way, it could help to alleviate the in- formation requirements, computational capacity, and implementation cost. On the other hand, ii) RM leads to converge to an NE in potential games. However, we must note that it will not discuss about the method convergence on a NE, since details can be found in [29, 31].

Retailer and Manufacturer Advertising Scheduling in a Marketing Channel

Retailer and Manufacturer Advertising Scheduling in a Marketing Channel

Despite the fact that the use of sporadic advertising schedules is well established in both the advertising literature and market place, the marketing channel literature that focuses on vertical interactions has consistently prescribed continuous advertising strategies over time. This paper investigates, in a bilateral monopoly context a situation in which a manufacturer and a retailer control their pricing and advertising decisions, the optimal scheduling of advertising in a planning horizon of three periods. We found that, consis- tent with the advertising literature, the integrated channel adopts pulsing to benefit from advertising positive carryover effects. Conversely, when pricing and advertising decisions are uncoordinated, channel members can optimally implement each of the following three advertising schedules. The full continuous schedule where channel members advertise in the three periods. The full pulsing schedule in which the two channel members advertise only in the first and third periods. The mix schedule where the retailer advertises in the three periods and the manufacturer advertises exclusively in the first and third peri- ods. Depending on the magnitude of the long-term effects of retailer and manufacturer advertising, each of the three schedules can be implemented.
