This research intends to analyze the impact that informationandcommunicationtechnology has on the students learning capabilities in San Marcos Faculty of Education. The use of these electronic tools has produced evident changes in almost all human activities: society, economy and culture. Therefore, to understand and use these tools in the process of teachingandlearning in higher education has become essential. Establishing the relationship between the proper use of ICT andlearning capabilities allow us to experiment with new strategies to improve the quality of education methodology, considering the students styles and multiple intelligences.
Nevertheless, the notion of motivation according to the educational field is included in Cubero Molina et al. (as it was cited in García-Sánchez & Cruz Vargas, 2016) as one of the factors that make teachingandlearning successful for students and teachers, who are supposed to be a motivating element in the classroom. As Ray (1992) rightly claimed “motivation is an essential condition of learning” (p. 4). In education, motivation is concerned with students but also with teachers. In relation to students, Ames (as it was cited in Ray, 1992) claimed that “if we place a value on developing a motivation to learn in students, we are concerned with whether students initiate learning activities and maintain an involvement in learning as well as a commitment to the process of learning” (p. 4). Moreover, teachers’ role is to guide students, helping them to achieve goals and to develop attitudes which contribute to their long-term involvement in learning (Ray, 1992). However, Dörnyei (1998) asserted “without sufficient motivation, even individuals with the most remarkable abilities cannot accomplish long-term goals, and neither are appropriate curricula and good teaching enough on their own to ensure student achievement” (p. 117).
As a result of this, teachers and coordinators’ answers showed willingness and interest in using ICT tools as part of their regular teaching practices, potentially mainly because the institution strongly believes that ICT incorporation improves both teaching practices andlearning processes. As stated by the International Institute for Communicationand Development – IICD, “ICT-enabled solutions improve access to relevant educational resources, stimulating tools for engaging students and new ways of communicating with all participants in educational systems. Furthermore, building ICT capacities of teachers can lead to equipping students with critical 21st century skills, such as digital literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, communicationand problem solving” At the same time, it was seen that teachers also share different views on what, how, and why to use ICT tools in their teaching.
The virtual platform provides adequate interaction interface between students and their teachers. It allows training activities, manage and share documents, create and participate in thematic communities and perform online projects. It provides the necessary tools for both the teaching staff and students; find the way to combine individual work andlearning cooperative method.
Sample was released for interviewing in replicates, which are representative subsamples of the larger sample. Using replicates to control the release of sample ensures that complete call procedures are followed for the entire sample. At least 10 attempts were made to complete an interview at sampled households. Calls were staggered over times of day and days of the week to maximize the chance of making contact with potential respondents. Each household received at least one daytime call in an attempt to find someone at home. In each contacted household, interviewers asked to speak with the youngest male currently at home. If no male was available, interviewers asked to speak with the oldest female at home. This systematic respondent selection technique has been shown to produce samples that closely mirror the population in terms of age and gender. Non-response in telephone interviews produces some known biases in survey-derived estimates because participation tends to vary for different subgroups of the population, and these subgroups are likely to vary also on questions of substantive interest. In order to compensate for these known biases, the sample data are weighted in analysis. The demographic weighting parameters are derived from a special analysis of the Census Bureau’s March 2005 Annual Social and Economic Supplement Survey. This analysis produces population parameters for the demographic characteristics of adults age 18 or older, living in households that contain a telephone. These parameters are then compared with the sample characteristics to construct sample weights. The weights are derived using an iterative technique that simultaneously balances the distribution of all weighting parameters.
Nowadays, multimedia contents are the most common types of documents transmitted over the Internet. This type of contents (either real or artificially generated) have more audience than traditional text or images, and thus have a wider impact on the way how people perform several tasks, from staying informed to learning/teaching, from developing professional activities to enjoying their spare time.
As mentioned above, a second interesting use of smartphones for learning is using them to experiment and learn out of the classrooms. In (Chen, Kao & Sheu, 2003) a mobile (Personal Digital Assistant) system for bird watching learning is described. In this work, quite before the smartphone age, mobile devices support an outdoor activity and the benefits of the use of mobile devices were evaluated comparing the learning results of those using the PDAs with the results of a control group who used a guidebook in a more traditional way. Based on that comparison, the authors concluded that the children using the PDA system improved their learning above the expected. This article presents the results obtained during its first year of application in the educational innovation project called “New frameworks of teaching: ICT applied to problem based learning in technical bachelors” (PIE 15-166) developed at the School of Architecture in the University of Malaga. This has been focused on the development of educational strategies based on exploiting the potential of ICT, taking as a framework the ABP. Its application on subjects from different areas of knowledge (architectural composition, urban planning, projects and architectural constructions) has allowed assessing the adaptability of this methodology depending on the content. Among the obtained results can be highlighted the improvement in cross curricular coordination between subjects from different fields of studies, providing different ways of synchronous and asynchronous communication between students and teachers to generate a greater interaction between all the involved subjects; increasing in addition the interest and an improvement of the results.
