This paper presents a numerical model for the analysis of acoustic wave propagation problems in non-homogeneous and non-isotropic building materials. The model uses a finite differences time domain (FDTD) method of second or four order in space and exponential in time. It can be applied to two- and three-dimensional problems or factorization of operators. With the proposed scheme, a higher accuracy and better resolution can be obtained whenever time gradients are high, in comparison with other methods. The accuracy of this method has been tested by comparison with the analytical solution of simple wave propagation problems, in one- and two- dimensional problems, with critical, subcritical and supercritical damping.

Some studies show that the ISO 3382 standard probably relax in excess omnidirectionality requirements for the high frequencies. It should consider choices to describe directivity of the sources, since the classification method proposed by the standard may lead to misleading conclusions about their behavior due to its implementation by means of arcs (gliding averages) on a single plane. Two new descriptors are proposed in this paper, the first one based on a study by T.W. Leishman and the second one based in the classic definition of directivity. Both have in common to consider the sound radiation from a three-dimensional point of view. From several measurements carried out, the correlation provided by these descriptors improves that found with the ISO 3382 standard descriptor.

Physical properties of 2D finite periodic arrays are observed using acoustic beams with finite spatial width. Analytical methods are used to study the differences between the approximation of infinite periodic medium and the finite case. However, in the most experimental cases the physical properties of the system are constrained by both the size of the sample and the width of the acoustic beam. In this work, beam propagation properties through finite sonic crystals are investigated.

The purpose of this paper is several-fold. First, we present a one-dimensional model of weakly nonlinear compressible flows which is valid for gases and liquids and which is characterized by a barotropic approximation whereby the pressure is a quadratic function of the density. Second, by employing an asymptotic expansion for small Mach numbers, we derive a nonlinear wave equation for the velocity potential which contains a mixed fourth-order derivative and two quadratic nonlinearities. Third, we present a second-order accurate finite difference method in both space and time to solve the leading-order equation that results from the asymptotic analysis. Fourth, we solve numerically one-dimensional nonlinear dissipative and dispersive equations in order to illustrate the propagation of pressure pulses in one-dimensional barotropic media.

This study investigated the existence of masking effects for vertical vibrations of seated subjects. The perception threshold on sinusoidal vibrations at three different frequencies (30, 35 and 40 Hz) was determined using a 3-AFC 3-down 1-up method. This threshold was also determined in the presence of a band-pass noise (10 to 20 Hz) at three different levels (between 0.1 and 0.315 m/s 2 ). The results suggest that the presence of this band-pass noise increases the perception threshold of the test signal. Various indicators explaining this phenomenon will be presented.

There are methods to measure the acoustic absorption of materials, but all have their specific weaknesses. Most of them are laboratory based methods. The few in situ techniques that do exist have limitations in terms of band width, sample size, signal to (background) noise ratio and non anechoic environments. The combination of a PU probe with the generation of a known acoustic field allows the distinction between direct and reflected field by the evaluated sample. This makes possible the easy and fast characterization of the acoustic properties of any material, with independence to its location. Not only the theoretical principles are presented but also comparative results in different study cases, compared to standard techniques.

One of the most typical industries in Extremadura is the cork sector. This sector carries with it the current problem of inadequate waste management, among which the cork dust. It is estimated that the average annual production of this waste is over 6000 tons in areas of transformation of Extremadura. This paper shows the results obtained of the acoustically characterization of waste materials made with different grain sizes of cork. This material has very interesting acoustic properties to be used in insulation and soundproofing.

This paper wants to report an investigation of a new kind of porous absorber. Vermiculite is an ultra-lightweight material that provides excellent thermal and acoustical properties. These materials are structurally robust and easy to integrate in buildings and highway structures to control the levels of environmental noise and improve the acoustic quality of spaces. Acoustic properties, sound absorption coefficient at normal incidence and acoustic impedance, from different samples have been measured using standard UNE EN ISO 10534-2:2002.

In this work, the authors analyze the behavior of perforated panels, usually applied in the acoustic treatment of enclosures, using an experimental approach and making use of small samples tested in an impedance tube. This method has obvious advantages from the economic point of view and can be of great interest in the development phase of construction products. Different solutions are tested, with different perforated areas and different characteristics of the air-gap, and analyzed in the frequency range between 100 Hz and 1600 Hz. Special emphasis is given to the assessment of the possible effect of an acoustic nonwoven mat applied on the back surface of the perforated panels, trying to verify, with different mats, the real influence that they may have on the overall behavior of the constructive solution.

Moreover an important awareness campaign will be carried up by regional government to get a correct implementation of it. Para una imagen de dimensiones y D esto significa que un hilo calcula el valor correspondiente en ese punto de la imagen lanzando un total de hilos organizados en un grid de bloques y fijando el tamaño de bloque hilos (kernel 2). El cálculo de las lentes se computa dinámicamente para cada pixel cada vez evitando las transacciones de memoria CPU-GPU lo que permite incrementar el rendimiento y adecuar la imagen rápidamente a operaciones de zoom y/o desplazamiento. Posteriormente, el valor de la muestra de señal se obtiene de las señales complejas mediante una función de interpolación (trabajando separadamente con los componentes de fase y cuadratura). Por último, se calcula el modulo del valor complejo resultante obteniendo de ese modo el valor del pixel de la imagen de la envolvente y se almacena en la memoria global de la tarjeta gráfica.
