FOUR-WHEEL- DOWN TOWING

In fact, towing another vehicle behind the motorhome has become increasingly popular in recent years. Additionally, many who want to tow another vehicle prefer one that can be towed easily without a dolly or trailer. The car and truck models shown in the chart to the right can be towed with all four wheels down.

Check your new vehicle's warranty manual as this may void your vehicle's warranty. If your vehicle configuration is not listed in the chart to the right, 4-wheel down towing is not available.

2016 TOWING GUIDE | 31 Ford and Lincoln Custom Accessories offer a wide variety of tow items to enhance. For current pricing and warranty information, please contact your dealer or visit our websites at: accessories.ford.com and accessories.lincoln.com. Use a 4-pin trailer tow connector and converter box that connects to the vehicles tail light signals and power source.

NOTE: This kit is only intended for use with the 5th Wheel Prep Package and the Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package. Other restrictions: Compatible with 8-foot beds only - cannot be used with bed liners or bed mats. Vehicles must be equipped with the Trailer Tow Package or Max Trailer Tow Package (wiring) for the kit to work.

Mirrors also feature a forward folding feature, allowing them to fold against the vehicle for tight spaces. POWER: Offers the same functions as manual tow mirrors, but the mirror glass is electrically adjustable. NOTE: Power-adjustable tow bar mirrors are only intended for vehicles equipped with power-adjustable mirrors and the turn signal/marker light function only works on vehicles originally equipped with these features.

AccESSORIzE

Approximately 60% of the allowable load weight should be in the front half of the trailer and 40% in the rear (within limits of tongue load or king pin weight). Back up slowly, with someone watching near the back of the trailer to guide you. Place one hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and move it in the direction you want the trailer to go.

Remember, the towing vehicle's braking system is rated for operation at GVWR, not GCWR. If your tow vehicle is an F-150, F-Series Super Duty®, Transit or Expedition and your trailer has power brakes, the optional Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) will help ensure smooth and effective trailer braking automatically proportioning the braking of the trailer to that of the towing vehicle. The slide lever on the TBC should only be used to manually activate the trailer brakes when adjusting the gain.

However, if necessary, place the wheel chocks under the trailer wheels, following the instructions below. Have another person place the wheel chocks under the trailer wheels on the landing side. Once the chocks are in place, release the brake pedal, making sure the chocks are holding the vehicle and trailer.

The extra weight of the trailer can dramatically reduce the acceleration of the towing vehicle - be careful. Remember that the added length of the trailer has to overcome the other vehicle before you can pull back. To eliminate this condition and achieve more even operation, the drive can be locked (see vehicle owner's manual).

A conventional, identical full-size spare tire is required for trailer towing (mini, compact and uneven full-size spare tires should not be used; . always replace the spare tire with the road tire as soon as possible). However, under certain circumstances (eg when the trailer has a large frontal area that adds significant drag or when the trailer is towing in hilly or mountainous terrain) it is wise to choose a larger engine. Note: For additional trailering information regarding your vehicle, refer to the vehicle's owner's manual.

TOWING SAFELy

The load must be securely secured to prevent it from shifting during cornering or braking, which could lead to a sudden loss of control. Make small steering movements – a slight movement of the steering wheel results in a much larger movement at the rear of the trailer. When making a turn, make sure you swing wide enough so the trailer can avoid curbs and other obstacles.

Improper use, such as application while swinging the trailer, can cause instability when towing the trailer and/or tow vehicle on hills. The TorqShift® transmission allows you to select tow/haul mode to automatically eliminate unwanted gear searching when going uphill and to control vehicle speed when going downhill. With certain automatic overdrive transmissions, towing – especially in hilly areas – can lead to excessive shifting between overdrive and the next lower gear.

When available, select tow/haul mode to automatically eliminate unwanted gear hunting and help control vehicle speed when descending. The tables in this manual show the minimum engine size required to move a GCW towing vehicle and trailer. Choosing a trailer with a rounded front end with low drag will help optimize performance and fuel economy.

Fortunately, much of the information you need to complete this calculation can be found on the vehicle and in the RV and Trailer Towing Handbook. Simply use the attached worksheet (page 2) to automatically calculate your customers' rated trailer load capacity and weight, then make sure the Ford truck they've chosen is rated to meet those needs.
