MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSE DESCRIPTIONS LANGUAGE ARTS

MATHEMATICS

Students will use geometric models to represent and solve problems; use and understand an axiomatic system; explore relationships between plane and solid geometry; demonstrate an understanding of the algebra associated with coordinate geometry; and be aware of the differences between Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries. Includes developing an understanding of congruence, proof and constructions; similarity, proof and trigonometry; extends to three dimensions; connects Algebra and Geometry through coordinates;. and circles with and without coordinates.

SCIENCE

Includes scientific processes, structure and function of cells, genetics, classification and taxonomy, structure and function of plants and animals, ecological relationships, and biological changes through time.

WORLD LANGUAGES

Continued emphasis on conversing, understanding, and presenting information while increasing language skills in more content areas. Emphasis is placed on conversing, understanding and presenting information about areas of immediate need and interest.

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Designed for the student who has little or no previous band instrumental training or experience. Designed for the student who has completed the novice band with sufficient success or who can demonstrate the required competencies.

FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES and GENERAL ELECTIVES

Enables students with no experience at the elementary school level to develop entry-level skills on bowed instruments through the performance and refinement of a variety of orchestral literature in an ensemble setting. The aim of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental skills in the production of journalism across print, multimedia, web and broadcast/radio platforms and to become aware of journalism history, careers, ethics and management techniques that related to the production. of journalistic media.

HIGH SCHOOL PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

Mid-year graduation – at the beginning of 1. semester of the last year, or if the exemption is approved in the 1st semester, as soon as the exemption is approved. Early graduation – at the beginning of 2. semester, or if the exemption is approved during the 2nd semester, as soon as the exemption is approved.

GUIDANCE STAFF

However, according to FSHAA (Bylaws 9.2.2.7), a student cannot participate in sports if he or she is not enrolled in school. Withdrawal due to inability to attend will not qualify for dual enrollment in the subsequent high school semester. Under limited circumstances, a student may be exceptionally permitted to enroll in a dual enrollment Early Childhood Education Program offered in high school with a lower than required GPA.

DUAL ENROLLMENT REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

Bring the completed Edgewood registration course request sheet with you when you meet with your high school counselor. Your high school counselor will review your test results and complete the EFSC Dual Enrollment Registration Form.

High School Dual Enrollment Application Steps

You must have your Social Security Number (SSN), your unweighted high school GPA, and your major before completing the application. To accommodate your high school schedule, it is important to know what times you can take classes at EFSC on the right day.

It is illegal for any person to knowingly and intentionally take an online course or exam on behalf of another person for compensation. Any person who violates this subsection commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s.

EDGEWOOD VIRTUAL SCHOOL GUIDELINES AND AGREEMENT

Both 1st and/or 2nd semester courses must be completed by the last school day at the latest, or the student may be asked to return to his home school. The course must be completed by July 1st or the student may be asked to return to their home school.

EDGEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

Took virtual school in 1st semester but did not graduate at the end of the EJSHS semester, received a Withdrawn Pass (WF) or Withdrawn Pass (WP). Dropped an EJSHS course sometime during the 2nd semester and did not finish by the end of the 2nd. semester, received a Withdrawn Pass (WF) or Withdrawn Pass (WP).

GRADING SCALE

Students must complete 1st and/or 2nd semester courses by the end of each semester as indicated by the current Brevard Public Schools calendar. The course must be completed with a grade of C or better by August 1, or the student will have to return to his/her home school, with the exception of core middle school and high school retention courses.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE

GRADE FORGIVENESS POLICY

In all cases of grade forgiveness, only the new grade is used in the calculation of the student's average grade. All courses and grades passed must be included on the student's transcript as an accurate reflection of the student's achievement data.).

RANK-IN-CLASS

In such a case, the district's dismissal policy must permit substitution of the grade with a grade of "C" or higher earned subsequently in the same or comparable course. BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS

Students cannot forfeit an early evaluation award unless they have earned a Florida standard high school diploma. BENACQUISTO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

An eligible student who is a National Merit Scholar or National Achievement Scholar and attends a Florida public postsecondary educational institution will receive an incentive award equal to the institutional cost of attendance minus the student's Florida Bright scholarship amount Futures and National Merit Scholarship or National Achievement Scholarship. An eligible student who is a National Merit Scholar or National Achievement Scholar and attends an independent postsecondary educational institution in Florida will receive an incentive award equal to the highest cost of attendance for a resident of of this state enrolled at a Florida public university, as reported by the Board of Governors of the State University System, minus the amount of the Florida Bright Future Student Scholarship and National Merit Scholarship or National Achievement Scholarship.

TESTING

Be enrolled full-time in a bachelor's degree program at an eligible regionally accredited Florida public or independent postsecondary educational institution during the fall academic term. A student may receive the incentive award for a maximum of 100 percent of the number of credit hours required to complete a bachelor's degree program, or until completion of a baccalaureate degree program, whichever comes first.

Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

A student may fulfill the FSA ELA or Algebra 1 EOC degree requirement by achieving a concordant or benchmark score on an approved assessment (see table below). FSAA is available for a small number of students with significant cognitive disabilities for whom the IEP team has identified and documented a need for alternative assessment.

Emphasis on learning Adobe Photoshop while incorporating the journalistic skills necessary to learn how to incorporate photography into digital publishing. It focuses on broad, transferable knowledge and skills and emphasizes understanding and presentation of the following elements of the digital publishing industry.
