Safety in the kitchen means using precautions in the kitchen to prevent accidents. Discovery Task Board Discussion Activity ‐‐ Students work in groups to find the answers to the questions in the Discovery Board and prepare to discuss the whole group as an assessment for kitchen safety. Discovery Assignment Board Discussion Activity ‐‐ Students will work in groups using prior knowledge, new insights, and information from high-quality sites on the Internet to find the answers to the questions in the Discovery Board and prepare to discuss the whole group as a review for Kitchen Safety.

This is a simple activity that can be done while watching younger children, and it only requires simple ingredients normally found in the kitchen (main ingredients). It is also non-toxic because it is made with ingredients from the kitchen (although it should not be eaten). Toddler Snacks Food Lab #2 ‐‐ Students will work together on this activity at the end of the unit, as a team, demonstrating what they have learned in this unit.

Sewing a Button Activity - Students learn how to sew on a button, have the opportunity to sew a button and reflect on the importance of sewing on a button.
Discovery Board Activity ‐‐ Students will work in partners and individually in other activities to complete a variety of Basic Skills Discovery Board activities: Laundry and Sewing. They must also provide evidence (eg photo/video and/or drawing and parent/guardian signature) of the student involved in one of the steps of the laundry process. Final Thoughts on Laundry ‐‐ Students must answer reflection questions about the importance of learning about laundry and give examples of why it is important to be more environmentally conscious.
Final Thoughts on Sewing on a Button Students should answer reflection questions about the importance of learning to sew on a button and provide examples. Some students still have difficulty tying the thread and fabric and will need a few attempts to resew the knots. Introduction to the importance of knowing the basic skills to successfully be an independent Discovery Board.

Predict the challenges that may arise at each of the stages of the family life cycle.
Show understanding of what happens when something disrupts the normal flow of the family life cycle. Students must find 2 examples of famous families for each of the 7 structures discussed in class. Students will collect pictures from magazines to depict the stages of the Family Life Cycle.
