Artículo 1. Ámbito de aplicación
While we often think of nature strictly as the animal, vegetable, and mineral realms, all things comes from nature, and even if they are crafted by human hands, they have an inherent majick in them due to their shape, symbol, and color. Several tools do not fall into the more traditional ingredient lists above, but are nonetheless important to the Witch.
Anything of a particular color will carry the vibration, the majick, of the color it has. Stones of a particular color, whether natural or synthetic, reflect a particular vibration for majick. You can use any type of color in your life, from the color of your clothing to the color of your nails and hair. You can do majick with the color of your car. Color influences everything in majick. The various tools below are influenced by color.

Likewise, certain symbols have built up power and meaning over time. Some are from esoteric systems, such as the Norse runes or Celtic Ogham script, while others are much more simple. They can be symbols such as the Sun, Moon, star, skull and crossbones, or dollar signs. All symbols can be tools in your majick.

For those unfamiliar with the planets Vulcan and Sparta, they are two “esoteric” planets of occult tradition used in the Cabot Tradition. Vulcan is said to be an inter-Mercurial planet, within the orbit of Mercury. Vulcan is known as the “Jeweler of the Gods” and the master of the forge, putting total power into your majick. Sparta is considered a “twin” to Earth, on the opposite side of Earth’s orbit, mirroring many of the qualities of our own planet. As traditions of astrology develop and diverge,
some have given many of the associations of Vulcan to the planetoid Chiron, and the associations of Sparta to the hypothesized planet believed to be beyond Pluto, sometimes referred to as Persephone or Proserpina.

The colors and symbols of a variety of tools and ingredients can aid us in our spellcraft. Candles are functional for light and for setting an atmosphere of enchantment, but the color of the candles adds to the majick, as each color is associated with certain elements, planets, and zodiac signs. If you want to draw the influence of a particular planet, use the charts below to determine what color candle for your altar. In addition to the traditional candles on the altar—black for the Goddess, placed on the left of the altar to absorb light for our majick, and white for the God, placed on the right of the altar to send out light for our majick—a third candle, matched by color to your intention for the overall working, maybe be used in between, even if the spell you are performing is not primarily a candle spell.
The clothing you wear during majick, and even during your day, influences your energy. I suggest matching the colors of your clothing to the primary planetary influences and aspects of the day, an excellent way to take advantage of their power. Ritual clothing is often called vestments, and many Witches choose to wear special clothes in ritual, such as robes and cloaks. They are primarily black. We wear black because it absorbs light. The more light you absorb, the more energy you have. Black draws in all colors, all light. Wearing black is important when doing spells because you want to
absorb all the light energy that you can. It will fill your aura with that power and make a more successful spell.
The jewelry a Witch wears is also part of her majick. The various metals have properties, and the stones and shapes set into jewelry bring a particular influence. Many Witches wear the pentacle, the five-pointed star in a circle, as a symbol of majick, Witchcraft, and protection, but it is also a symbol of alpha and of information. Much of its majick and protection come from having greater access to psychic information, and through your intuition, being in the right place at the right time.
In the old days, writing was only done with a quill pen. Today we have magic markers, felt pens, and many other writing options, though some Witches, including myself, still prefer quill pen and ink. The pen is the wand. Written spells can use special ink. While a simple, good quality black pen is useful for most spell petitions, special colored ink can be used to align with the planets. Herbs, oils, and stones, charged in ritual, can be added to the ink, making it a potion. Planetary inks can be made best on the day of the week associated with the planet (see the following table).
I always use potions and stones in my inks to enhance the power. An artist’s ink pen or brush can be used to write spells with this ink. Many modern Witches, rather than making ink, instead clear and charge a set of colored pens or markers for their majick. When I write a spell to bring something to me, I use a black feather pen. The color black contains all colors; therefore it absorbs all light, energy, and majick. I actually have two black feather pens. One is only for protection spells. When I write a protection spell, I put a drop of Black Feather Potion into the ink and adorn the ink bottle with a small pentacle. The other black pen is for my personal needs, and I use appropriate ink for the type of spell I am writing.

Likewise parchment, a special paper, is most often used in written majick. Traditional parchment was made from animal skin, but today parchment refers to a fancy printing paper, not the parchment paper used for cooking. Parchment printing paper comes in a variety of styles and colors and can be matched by color to your intention.
Various containers are used for majickal ingredients to create a charm or talisman. Small colored bags can be purchased or sewn to carry stones, roots, and herbs. Such bundles can be called a mojo bag. Mojo refers to majickal power; the term mojo bag was first used in the American tradition of majick known as Hoodoo, but many Witches in America have adopted it. Those who don’t have an aptitude for sewing can take small squares of cloth with the ingredients in the center, bundle up the ends, and tie it together to form a small bag.
Bottles are another important device for majick. Small sealable bottles and jars are used to contain various ingredients and charms, making a vessel for a particular spell intention. Some bottles are
hung in the home or business. Others are buried or placed in your freezer. If you are going to display the bottle as a part of the majick, then obtaining beautiful decorative bottles will be essential.
In order to create a spell bottle, you must decide your intention. Find a bottle, preferably new. I prefer a cork-topped bottle. Take a small piece of parchment paper and write your spell. Roll the spell up and tie with a proper color ribbon. Find a crystal or stone that you can charge to place into the bottle. If you can find a charm or herb that will help ignite the power to have the spell bottle work, once you have placed the ingredients in the bottle, seal the cork with glue. If you wish, you can
embellish the cork and the top of the bottle with a crystal bead and other charms. Cast a circle and send the spell. You can keep the bottle or give it to a friend.
Our majickal potions in the Cabot Tradition tend to come into two basic types. The first is made from a water infusion of dried or fresh herbs, and the second is made in an oil base. Water-based potions are like herbal teas, but are typically preserved with sea salt. They do not always have a strong or pleasing scent to them. Oil-based potions are more of the traditional Witchcraft perfumes, with essential oils or fragrance oils infused—along with various plants, stones, or animal hair—into the oil. One of the more majickal measurements of classic potion formulas is the dram, meaning twenty drops, though many bottles that are 1/8th of a fluid ounce are marked dram bottles. Dry “potions” are known as philters; they are majickal powders that can be scattered, kept in a bowl, put in a charm bag, or burned as incense.
All liquid potions can use a little bit of heat, and can be made on a stove. Gas or wood stoves are best, as electrical stoves can interfere with the energy. I prefer enamel pans and pots to make potions, but enamel can be difficult to find nowadays. Heatproof glass and ceramic are also good. Iron and steel pots can be used for protection potions only. They will diffuse other kinds of majick. Aluminum pots should not be used in potion making at all. My former student and co-author Christopher likes to use a large ceramic potpourri pot, heated by a tea light, which can be kept in the center of the altar rather than in the kitchen. Properly prepared potions can last a traditional four days, as their energy infuses your own energy with intention, lasting well beyond how long their scent is noticeable. The containers used to store potions should be majickally decorated in harmony with the potion’s
