The cover afforded by this section is conditional upon Section 2 Householders having been effected with us and remaining in force at all times.

1. ALL ASSAULT MEDICAL AND TRAUMA COVER INCLUDING HIV PROTECTION SERVICE

1.1. Insurer

The All Assault Medical and Trauma Cover is underwritten by Regent Insurance Company Limited (we or us) and administered by RSI Risk Solutions International (PTY) Limited (Reg no. 1991/07265/07).

1.2. Policyholder

The person (you or your) whose name appears in the schedule.

1.3. Duration of cover

The cover remains in force subject to the payment of the premium in terms of the policy.

1.4. Period of insurance

As stated in the schedule.

1.5. Insured persons

The person in whose name the policy is issued and members of your immediate family normally residing with you and who are under the age of 23 years and financially dependant on you.

1.6. Assault

Bodily injury sustained by violent external and visible means as a direct result of an assault necessitating medically indicated treatment diagnosed by a registered medical practitioner within 3 days of the alleged incident.

1.7. Medically indicated treatment

a) Medical expenses necessarily incurred by you for the treatment of bodily injury caused as a direct result of the assault.

b) Antiretroviral and prophylactic medication/treatment prescribed to possibly avoid contracting HIV, AIDS, and/or any sexually transmitted disease by you as a direct result of the assault.

The medically indicated treatment must be prescribed and administered by a registered medical practitioner.

1.8. Psychiatric consultations

Expenses necessarily incurred within 6 months of the assault for medically recommended psychiatric consultations including psychological treatment and counselling prescribed by a registered medical practitioner as a direct result of the assault.

2. YOU ARE COVERED FOR:

a) Assault

i) R5 000 per insured person with a maximum of R10 000 per occurrence in respect of Medically Indicated Treatment.

ii) R5 000 per insured person with a maximum of R10 000 per occurrence in respect of Psychiatric Consultations.

Provided that in respect of Medically Indicated Treatment no compensation will be payable for antiretroviral and/or prophylactic medication if you are HIV positive at the time of the treatment.

3. WE WILL NOT PAY FOR:

Compensation will not be payable as a result of your:

a) participation in any riot, civil commotion, labour disturbance, strike or lockout or public disorder or any act or activity which is calculated or directed to bring these about; b) wilful misconduct;

c) performance or attempt to perform:

i) any act which is calculated or directed to bring about destruction or damage or bodily injury in order to further any political aim, objective or cause, or to bring about any social or economic change or in protest against any state or government or any provincial, local or tribal authority for the purpose of inspiring fear in the public or any section thereof.

4. GENERAL CONDITIONS

4.1. Claims procedure and requirements

a) If an event giving rise to or likely to give rise to a claim comes to your knowledge you must notify us within 30 days and as soon as possible give us:

i) written details of the event;

ii) such proofs, information and sworn declarations we may require from time to time.

b) If we reject liability for any claim made under this policy we will be relieved of liability unless summons is served on us within 180 days of rejection.

4.2. Cancellation

The cancellation of the policy to which this section is attached will prevail.

4.3. Jurisdiction

4.4. Exceptions

We will not be liable for:

a) any claim which is in any way fraudulent;

b) loss, damage or bodily injury deliberately caused by you or any person acting in collusion with you, consequential loss or damage except as specifically provided.

5. HOW TO CLAIM

Telephone RSI on 0861 100 118 to report the claim telephonically and obtain a claim form. The following documents are required:

a) claim form;

b) medical reports, in the event of injury; c) certified copy of your identity document.

All documentation, including invoices for medical treatment, where applicable, must be sent to RSI at:

PO Box 1181, Ruimsig, 1732 Or hand deliver to:

RSI, Unit 9 & 10, Block D, Ruimsig, Country Estate, Hole in One Avenue, Ruimsig, Mogale City, Gauteng.

6. HIV PROTECTION SERVICE

The HIV protection service provides you with peace of mind because, in the event of an assault, you and your family have access to world-class hospital care and to treatment and diagnostic regimes for the management of the consequences of rape, trauma and HIV, The HIV protection service provides access to assistance in circumstances relating to:

a) assault; b) rape.

The HIV protection service enables you to make use of, at your discretion, the following services which can be paid out of the defined benefit of the section:

a) 24-hour access to the all-assault helpline on 0861 100 118;

b) 24-hour access to trauma counsellors, providing telephonic trauma counselling as well as counselling for post-traumatic stress disorder;

c) 3 consultations (per incident) with a specialist, either a general practitioner, trauma- trained registered nurse or trauma counsellor;

d) 3 HIV blood tests (per incident): 1 immediately after the event and the second and third at 6 weeks and 3 months respectively. Should you be HIV positive at the time of the initial blood test, further testing is prohibited.

Provided that exposure has been established, and strictly on the treating doctor’s orders, if you are HIV negative (following a rapid test) you will also be provided with access to:

a) a 30-day starter pack of antiretroviral medication; b) a 7-day course of STI medication;

c) a “morning-after” pill to prevent pregnancy;

d) R2 000 admission deposit guarantee to hospital (fully refundable); e) registration for an HIV management programme, where applicable;

f) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year telephonic access to an HIV counselling centre for information and advice.

Should you be HIV positive at the time of the event, you will be provided with access to: a) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year telephonic trauma counselling;

b) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year telephonic HIV counselling;

c) 3 consultations (per incident) with a specialist, either a general practitioner, trauma- trained registered nurse or trauma counsellor;

d) the “morning-after” pill to prevent pregnancy; e) a 7-day course of STI medication.
