Preparing your server
Completethefollowingstepsto prepareyourserver.
1. Readthesafetyinformationbeginningonpage v,“Installationguidelines”on page 3,and“Handlingstatic-sensitivedevices”onpage3.
2. Shutdowntheserveroperating system.
3. Turn offtheserveranddisconnectallcables.
Note: Forinstructionsonhowto turnoff yourserver,refertothedocumentation thatcomeswithyourserver.
Removing the covers, bezel, and feet
Completethefollowingstepsto removethecovers, bezel,andfeetfromyour server.
1. Removetheleft-sidecover.
a. Unlock,open, andremovetheserverdoor,if necessary;then,locatethe cover-releaselatchonthefrontoftheserver.

b. Slide thecover-releaselatchonthefrontoftheservertotheunlocked positiontoreleasetheleft-side cover;then, slidetheleft-side covertoward therearoftheserverapproximately25mm(1 in.).Movethetopedgeofthe coveroutandthenliftthecoverofftheserver.Set theleft-side coveraside.
2. Removethebezel.
a. Pushtheblue bezel-releaselever up,asshown intheillustration.
b. Liftthebezeltabsoutoftheslots;then,pull thebezelawayfromthefrontof theserver.

3. Removetheright-sidecover.
a. Openthetwocable-restraintbracketsontherearof theserver.
b. Fromtherearoftheserver,removethescrewsthatholdtheright-sidecover inplace.(Thenumberof screwsvariesdependingonthemodel.)
Note: Youwillneedto savethescrewsremovedinthis stepforfuture use instep2conpage12.
c. Slide theright-sidecovertowardtherearoftheserverabout25mm(1in.);
then, lifttheright-sidecoverawayfromtheserver.Storetheright-sidecover for potentialfutureuse.

1. Movetheserialnumberbrackettotherackpositiononthefrontof theserver.
a. Usea pairofplierstocompressthelockingtabontheserialnumber bracketandrotatethetophalfofthebracketawayfromtheserver.
b. Pullthebracketawayfromtheserver.
c. Positiontheserialnumberbracketasshowninfigure6.
d. Placethetworeartabsof theserialnumberbracketintothetwosmall openingsontheserver.
e. Rotatethetophalfof theserialnumberbrackettowardtheserverpressing thelockingtabintothematchinghole ontheserver.

e. Tocontinuewiththenext installationprocedure,carefullyturntheserver top-sideuponaflatsurface.
3. Movethepower-switchpaneltothenew location.
a. Removethefrontfansandhousing fromthefrontof theserver.Seethe OptionInstallationGuideorHardwareMaintenanceManualontheIBM xSeriesDocumentationCDforinformationonhowto removethefans and housing.
b. Removethepower-switchpanelbypressingdownandinwardonthetop tab.
c. Fromtheinsideoftheserver,alignthepanelwithitsnew location;then, placethesquareendof thepower-switch panelintothebottomopening.
d. Presstheotherendofthepower-switchpaneltowardthefrontofthe serveruntil itsnapsintoplace.

4. Removetheoperatorinformationpanel.
a. Pressupfirmlyonthebottomof theoperatorinformationpanelbracketat thepoint closestto thechassis.
b. Removethebracketsothatyoucanmoveitto thenew location.
5. Disconnecttheoperatorinformationpanelcablefromthesystem board connector.
Note: Check thesystem servicelabelontheservercoverto findtheoperator informationpanelcableconnectorlocationfor yourserver.
a. Locatetheoperatorinformationpanelcableconnectoronthesystem board.
b. Pullthecableallthewaythroughtheopeningat theoldpositionofthe operatorinformationpanel.

6. Installtheoperatorinformationpanelinthenew location.
a. Placethetabbedendoftheoperatorinformationpanelbracketintothe opening,aligningtheLEDssothattheyshowthroughtheholesinthe serverfront.
Note: Theillustrationsinthis documentmightdifferslightlyfromyour hardware.
b. Pressthelatchendof thebracketthroughtheotheropeninguntil the operatorinformationpanelsnapsintoplace.
c. Reinstallthefrontfansandhousing.

7. Routetheoperatorinformationpanelcablebetweenthenon-hot-swapdrive cageandthefrontfanassembly,sothatitisoutofthewayandwillnotbe pinched.
Attention: Makesurethecabledoes notobstruct thevent.
8. RemovethefourM4screwsfromtheserverasshown infigure 12.Save two ofthesescrewsareforuseinstep9 onthefollowingpage anddiscardthe remainingscrewsorstorethem forfutureuse.
