Overview of Session 1 Wrap-Up
Time 120 minutes (including work time during lunch)
Unit Breakdown Time
1. Project the unit’s first PPT slide on the screen. Introduce the unit and present slides 1 to 4, using slide 3 to emphasize the detailed criteria for a best bet.
5 minutes
2. Present slide 5 on the Best Bet Profile, asking participants to pull it out of the back pocket of the training binder, then present slide 6, emphasizing the fact that we care less about the design than about ensuring the right level of information is captured so that students can make informed decisions. Note that others have modified the design and are even getting their own students involved in design efforts.
3 minutes
3. Present slide 7 on the key steps of an informed guidance process. Reiterate that this training is less about how to counsel students and more about getting the right level of information to support the
counseling process. Situate Counseling to Careerswithin an informed guidance process.
2 minutes
4. Present slides 8 to 10. Walk through slide 9 to further emphasize the action research process and foreshadow the work planning that will soon occur.
5-10 minutes
5. Present slide 11 and do a brief walkthrough of the CTC website. 5 minutes 6. If you use Dropbox with your programs, add a slide or two here to
walk through this tool. An overview of Dropbox is in the Technology and Technical Assistance section of this manual.
5 minutes
7. Present slide 12, reminding participants that they can find printouts of the Tracking Sheets in Units 3 and 4 of the training binder, as well as electronic versions on the CTC website and in each team’s Dropbox folder.
2 minutes
8. Present slide 13 (steps to kick off the action research process) and skip ahead to slide 15 (an overview of the technical assistance that you will provide between Sessions 1 and 2 of the training).
4 minutes
9. Move back to slide 14, an overview of what teams are expected to do during the Working Lunch. Refer participants to the Work Plan for the Coming Months and the Sample Work Plan for the Coming Months in the training binder. Mention that the blank work plan is also available in each team’s Dropbox folder and on the CTC Website. Transition to the working lunch.
4 minutes
10. During the Working Lunch, trainers circulate and pass out the Planning for Your Team’s Action Research handout for each participant. Trainers briefly walk teams through the handout, which summarizes the key steps of the action research process, and assist teams with any questions they may have about the Work Plan. Teams use the Working Lunch to begin developing their Work Plans. TA providers circulate to set up their assigned teams’ check-in calls and to ask about teams’ availability for the Best Bet Checklist Webinar. At the end of the Working Lunch, trainers transition to Final Reflections and Wrap-Up.
