La anticortesía verbal como una forma de constitución de la identidad de los raperos

3.2.3. La anticortesía verbal como una forma de constitución de la identidad de los raperos

As a clinical facilitator in a private hospital setting, I had the opportunity to observe the adaptation of students to their new roles as qualified professional nurses in the clinical setting. A concern was raised within me. I anticipated learning more about preparedness for practice and the new professional nurses in the clinical setting. The research study developed a desire in me to venture out and explore more about this phenomenon. During the research process the researcher started to focus on newly qualified professional nurses at her own place of work, a private healthcare facility. This allowed for the researcher to take notice of the expectations that were assumed of the newly qualified professional nurses and the lack of or little support provided to them. Discussions of ideas to various Unit managers where newly

qualified professional nurses were placed commenced. These discussions were based on a few recommendations mentioned in chapter 4, such as settings of expectations and outcomes from the beginning of entry into the ward/unit. This was an eye-opener for the researcher to also be more supportive and available to these newly qualified professional nurses who needed the confidence lift.

I have become humbled by this study, as I had the privilege of listening to the experiences as lived by these passionate participants who made me believe that nursing is still a calling. The past two years have been a life journey where I have grown both personally and professionally in my career.

I humbly acknowledge each participant of this study who participated without hesitation and contributed to the research. This study has created a refreshed perspective in me on education and training for individuals.

A well-structured mentorship programme developed to facilitate newly qualified professional nurses from the day of qualification, through this transition process of a new role adjustment, will enhance professional competencies, improve quality patient care and provide a good support structure for a successful transition process. Newly qualified professional nurses will also feel empowered within their teams. These would be the nurses who will one day become the peers to the next group of newly qualified professional nurses. Hence, adequate support and an efficiently structured mentorship programme, upon qualification, would develop newly qualified nurses into proficient, confident professional nurses.

4.8 SUMMARY

This study outlined that practical experience is essential in the transition process from newly qualified to professional nurse. The key was to understand the experiences of newly qualified professional nurses which included essential requirements that still need attention within the first year of their practice. This will enable the multi-disciplinary team to better support these new professional nurses, promoting confidence and competence in their day-to-day practice.

The findings also illuminated that belonging in a team was a vital part of becoming a professional nurse; this was not easy for most participants. The study highlighted the unique challenges encountered but also identified that support is essential and required by newly qualified professional nurses as they embark on their new journey in the clinical setting.
