3.0 Concealed ceiling and floor spaces exceeding 400mm but not exceeding 800mm in depth and do not contain combustible material need not be protected by sprinklers subject to submission of an Material Audit of the
contents of the space undertaken and endorsed by the responsible engineer. The Audit shall be subject to review and approval by the QCD and shall include a coordinated services drawing(s) of the space in question with a section drawing, a table listing all materials with their flame spread index (not to exceed 25) determined through testing in accordance with NFPA 255 (test reports to be included), the individual materials' heat content.
The total heat content within the concealed space which shall not exceed 11,356 kJ/m2 (1,000 Btu/ft2).
The responsible engineer shall also confirm and verify that measures are implemented to ensure that the space remains as originally intended and there will be no fire load accumulation.
400mm<height< 800mm and no combustible
material
4.0 Concealed ceiling and floor spaces exceeding 400mm but not exceeding 800mm in depth and containing combustible material shall be protected by sprinklers installed on the extended basis. Sprinkler protection may be omitted where the space is subdivided by fire and draught stops at intervals not exceeding 15m in any direction.

material
5.0 Concealed ceiling and floor spaces exceeding 800mm in depth not containing combustible materials shall be protected by sprinkler installed on the extended basis.
>800mm and has no combustible
material 6.0 Concealed ceiling and floor spaces exceeding 800mm in depth containing
combustible material shall be fully protected by sprinklers in accordance with the requirement for the particular hazard.

CLEAN AGENT SYSTEMS
FSS No:6.08
Item Provisions Notes
1 The design, installation and testing of Clean Agent Systems shall be in accordance with these regulations and the NFPA 2001.
Applicable Codes and regs 2 Only clean agents specifically approved by the Qatar Civil Defence shall be
used.
3 The use of CO2 is prohibited without specific approval from the QCD. Such approval will only be granted on the basis of a formal engineering analysis that concludes to the satisfaction of the QCD, that alternative clean agents are not able to satisfactorily extinguish the fire.
4 Clean Agent storage containers shall not be stored within the protected enclosure.
They shall be easily accessible from the main entrance of the protected enclosure.
Location of storage containers
5 A manual mechanical means of discharging the required agent shall be provided on the storage container.
Mechanical actuation 6 Clean Agent systems shall be operated automatically by a QCD approved
automatic detection system.
Automatic operation 7 The Control Panel shall be located external to the protected enclosure and
located near the main entrance to the protected enclosure.
The Control Panel shall be connected to the Buildings Main Fire Alarm Panel and shall provide Alarm, Gas Discharged and Fault indications on the Main Panel.
Control Panel
8 Gas discharge shall only occur after a predetermined time delay to be approved by the QCD.
The time delay shall be interrupted by the operation of the Abort Switch and shall re-commence on release of the Abort Switch.
The minimum delay shall be 20 seconds.
Gas discharge delay timer to allow occupants
escape
9 At least one Manual Release Push Button shall be provided external to the protected enclosure and mounted within 1.5m of the main entrance.
Subject to the size and configuration of the protected enclosure, more than one Manual Release push button may be required.
Operation of the Manual Push Button shall cause instant release of the clean agent.
Manual Release
8 An Abort Switch that interrupts the countdown delay timer shall be provided within the protected enclosure and mounted within 1.5m of the main entrance. Subject to the size and configuration of the protected enclosure, more than one

Abort Switch may be required.
Continuous operation of the Abort Switch shall be required to interrupt the countdown timer. Release of the Abort Switch shall reset the countdown timer to gas discharge.
9 "DO NOT ENTER - GAS DISCHARGED" illuminated signs shall be external to the protected enclosure and mounted above all entrances so as to be visible to any person entering.
The lettering shall be a minimum of 50mm high. It shall be visible at all times of the day.
The illumination shall be activated by a pressure switch fitted to the discharge piping.
Gas Discharge signage
"EVACUATE NOW – GAS DISCHARGE" illuminated signs shall be provided above the exits of the protected enclosure.
The lettering shall be a minimum of 50mm high. It shall be visible at all times of the day.
Illumination shall be activated by on commencement of the discharge time delay.
10 All enclosures protected by clean agent systems that are required by code to be provided with an extinguishing system, in the absence of sprinkler protection, must be constructed from 2 hour fire resistant elements.
Enclosure considerations
11 Subject to the location of the enclosure, its integrity (to be verified through testing) and the type and nature of the clean agent used, ventilation system to purge the gas after discharge may be required by the QCD. Due consideration shall be given to this aspect of the system.
12 All enclosures protected by Clean Agents systems must be subjected to an Enclosure Integrity Test. The test must be conducted by a qualified tester acceptable to the QCD. The test shall verify the ability of the protected enclosure to maintain the minimum design concentration for 10 minutes. The enclosure test must be witnessed by the QCD. This is a pre-condition for issue of the building's fire safety certificate.
