► Third-country nationals are expected to

remain banned from entering Germany with the exception of residents (irrespective of their citizenship) traveling from Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau are expected to be added to this list if/when there is a reciprocity agreement in place that grants admission of German citizens to these jurisdictions.

► The mandatory quarantine period

may be shorted by up to five days if new entrants test negative for COVID-19 on/after their fifth day after arrival. They must adhere to all local health and safety

measures.

► Visa-free arrival for long-term

stays is possible if travelers can provide that they have a valid, urgent reason for their travel.

► Visa type D holders need to Visa

type D holders need to apply for their final residence permits within the validity of their visas. This will create an interim status which will allow them to remain in Germany even after the expiry date of their visa.

► Significant delays in visa and

permit application processing can be expected for a variety of applications, including

applications to convert a German national D visa into a long-term residence after arrival, foreign nationals filing new applications for long-term stays, and new visa applications.
