On the face, directly inferior to the pupil, between the eyeball and the infraorbital margin.
• Twitching of the eyelid, acrimation upon exposure to wind, bloodshot and painful eyes, night blindness
• Deviated mouth and eye, facial spasm Si Bai
(ST-2)
On the face, directly inferior to the pupil, in the depression of the infraorbital foramen.
• Bloodshot, painful and itching eyes, nebula or macule of the cornea, twitching of the eyelids
• Deviated mouth and eye, facial spasm • Headache, dizziness
Jia Che (ST-6)
On the cheek, one finger’s breadth (middle finger) anterosuperior to the angle of mandible, in the depression where the masseter muscle is prominent.
• Deviated mouth, toothache, swollen cheek, trismus
Ru Zhong (ST- 17)
In the anterior thoracic region, in the fourth intercostal space, at the centre of the nipple, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
• Acupuncture and moxibustion are
contraindicated on this point; it is used only as a mark for locating points on the chest and abdomen
Ru Gen (ST- 18)
In the anterior thoracic region, directly inferior to the nipple and at the root segment of the nipple, in the fifth intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
• Mammary abscess, insufficiency of lactation • Cough, asthma, hiccups
• Thoracalgia
Liang Men (ST- 21)
On the upper abdomen, 4 cun superior to the centre of the umbilicus, 2
cun lateral to the anterior midline. • Acute stomach ache• Swollen and painful knees, paralysis of the legs • Mammary abscess Tian Shu (ST- 25)
On the middle abdomen, 2 cun lateral to the centre of umbilicus. • Abdominal distension, borborygmus, pain around the umbilicus, constipation, diarrhoea, dysentery
• Irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhoea Gui
Lai (ST- 29)
On the lower abdomen, 4 cun inferior to the centre of the umbilicus, 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
• Abdominal pain, hernia
• Irregular menstruation, leucorrhoea, prolapse of the uterus
Fu Tu (ST- 32)
On the anterior aspect of the thigh, on the line connecting the lateral end of the base of the patella with the anterior superior iliac spine, 6 cun superior to the base of the patella.
• Lumbago and cold knees, paralysis of the legs • Hernia • Dermatophytosis Liang Qiu (ST- 34)
With the knee bent, on the anterior aspect of the thigh, on the line connecting the lateral end of the base of the patella with the anterior superior iliac spine, 2 cun superior to the base of the patella.
• Acute stomach ache
• Swelling and pain in knees, paralysis of the legs
• Mammary abscess Du Bi
(ST- 35)
With the knee bent, on the anterior aspect of the knee, in the depression lateral to the patellar ligament.
• Knee pain, paralysis of the legs, disadvantage in flexion and extension, dermatophytosis
Zu San Li (ST- 36)
On the anterior aspect of crus, 3 cun inferior to Du Bi (ST-35), one finger’s breadth (middle finger) lateral to the anterior border of tibia.
• Stomach ache, vomiting, dysphagia, abdominal distension, diarrhoea, dysentery, constipation
• Mammary abscess, periappendicular abscess • Paralysis and pain in the legs, oedema • Mania, dermatophytosis
• Consumptive disease with marked emaciation, it is an important point for general health care Shang
Ju Xu (ST- 37)
On the anterior aspect of crus, 6 cun inferior to Du Bi (ST-35), one finger’s breadth (middle finger) lateral to the anterior border of tibia.
• Borborygmus, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, periappendicular abscess • Atrophy and paralysis of the legs and knees,
dermatophytosis Xia Ju
Xu (ST- 39)
On the anterior aspect of crus, 9 cun inferior to Du Bi (ST-35), one finger’s breadth (middle finger) lateral to the anterior border of tibia.
• Lower abdominal pain, diarrhoea, dysentery
• Atrophy and paralysis of the legs and knees • Mammary abscess Feng Long (ST- 40)
On the anterolateral aspect of the crus, 8 cun superior to the prominence of the lateral malleolus, lateral to Tiao Kou (ST-38), two fingers’ breadths (middle finger) lateral to the anterior border of the tibia.
• Headache, dizziness • Mania
• Cough with copious phlegm
• Atrophy and paralysis of the legs and knees
• Abdominal distension, constipation
Jie Xi (ST- 41)
In the depression at the midpoint of the transverse crease of the malleolus joint, between the tendons of extensor hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus.
• Atrophy and paralysis of the legs and knees, ankle disease, foot drop
• Headache, dizziness • Mania
• Abdominal distension, constipation Chong
Yang (ST- 42)
At the highest point of the dorsum of the foot, between the tendons of extensor hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus, over the dorsalis pedis artery.
• Stomach ache
• Deviated mouth and eye • Mania and epilepsy
• Atrophy and myasthenia of the legs
Xian Gu (ST- 43)
On the dorsum of the foot, in the depression proximal to the metatarsophalangeal joint between the second and third metatarsal bones.
• Oedema of the face
• Swelling and pain of the dorsum of the foot
• Borborygmus, abdominal pain Nei
Ting (ST- 44)
On the dorsum of the foot, between the second and third toes, posterior to the web margin, at the border between the red and white flesh.
• Toothache, sore throat, a deviated mouth, epistaxis
• Fever
• Stomach disease with sour regurgitation, abdominal distension, diarrhoea,
dysentery, constipation
• Swelling and pain of the dorsum of the foot
Li Dui (ST- 45)
On the second toe, lateral to the distal phalanx, 0.1 cun proximal-lateral to the corner of the second toenail.
• Epistaxis, toothache, sore throat
• Fever
• Dreaminess, mania
