If you are using the online application portal to apply to Selective Enrollment Schools, be aware that this is a TWO-STEP PROCESS: (1) Schedule, THEN (2) Apply. Both steps must be completed by the December 11th application deadline -- even if your child is taking his/her exam(s) AFTER the application deadline. If you have not submitted an application identifying the schools in which you
are interested, your child will not be included in the selection process for these schools.
APPLICATION TIP #10
You are not REQUIRED to apply to the maximum number of schools allowed. If a school is too far from your home, or there are other reasons why you would not accept an offer if your child receives
one, do not apply to the school. For example, you can apply to up to six Regional Gifted Centers and Classical Schools, in any combination. If there are only two Regional Gifted Centers and two Classical Schools where you would accept an offer, then those are the only Regional Gifted Centers and Classical Schools to which you should apply.

Online Application Paper Application
• Go to www.apply.cps.edu.
• Create a user name and password, and request a Personal
Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is used instead of your signature. The last date to request a PIN is November 30, 2015. If you requested a PIN for last year’s process, you must request another PIN for this year’s process. (NOTE: If you have a child currently in eighth grade, you will receive a PIN in that child’s Eligibility Letter. You can use that PIN to access the site for all of the children in your family – do not request another PIN if you have an eighth grade student who will be applying for high school.)
• The PIN will be mailed to your home address in approximately five business days. (If you do not receive your PIN within 10 days of submitting your request, contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060 or [email protected].)
• Once you receive your PIN, return to the online site and enter the user name and password you created. You will then be prompted to enter your PIN.
• You only need to use the PIN once. Afterward, you will access the site by entering the user name and password that you created. • If you are applying to grades 5-8, your child must pre-qualify for the admissions exam based on his/her NWEA MAP scores. If your child attends a non-CPS school and has not yet registered for the NWEA MAP, contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at (773) 553-2060 or [email protected] to register by December 11, 2015.

• Print the confirmation page for each test and keep them in a safe place. You will need to take the confirmation page with you to your child’s tests.
• After you schedule your child’s test(s) click the ‘Apply’ button for the Selective Enrollment Elementary Schools Application, any time between October 1st and December 11th, and rank up to six Regional Gifted Centers and Classical Schools (using any combination); up to three Regional Gifted Centers for English Language Learners; one International Gifted Program (grades 6-8); and/or up to six Academic Centers (grades 7-8).

My child is currently enrolled in a Selective Enrollment Elementary School. I would like for him to attend a different Selective Enrollment Elementary School. How can I transfer him to the other school?
In order for your child to be considered for a different selective enrollment school or program, you will have to submit an application, during the application period, and your child will have to participate in the testing process for the school in which you are interested. You cannot transfer your child without participating in the application and selection process.
