James continues to tell us of one more vital requirement that is so vital in operating the anointing – divine wisdom. This is of course a different kind of wisdom from the one of this world. It is a wisdom that is from above, concerned about the things above more than things about us. James describes it when he explains that it comes from heaven and is: first of all pure; then peace‐loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17). This wisdom is divine. It is a gift from above and is manifested in a person as a result of submitting to the counsel of the Mighty Holy Spirit. Beloved, this was the promise God made in Christ when He said that He would send the Counselor. He is not merely another counselor, Jesus referred to Him as the Counselor. The believer in Christ has this incredible privilege to receive word of advice loaded with supernatural knowledge. I submit to you that the recipient of this counsel is above each and every circumstance in this world. The reason being that such a person is gaining understanding far superior than whatever challenge he/she may face. Following his own personal experience in this wisdom, King Solomon states with much authority in the Proverbs:
There is no wisdom, no insight, and no plan that can succeed against the Lord (Proverbs 21: 30).
Throughout the bible, God avails tested and proven evidence of this wisdom. In Joseph, we have an incredible encouragement account of how a vulnerable, betrayed, exiled, sold slave rose to amazing heights because of submitting to this wisdom. Joseph was a simple young man that overcame damning circumstances that would ordinarily sentence any man to a life long sentence of depravity and oblivion. When he’s brothers sold him as a slave to Egyptian traders this young man was abandoned to the cold wind of ill‐fate. He entered Egypt with nothing. He had no property, no capital to start business, no equipment to operate, no partnership with a local to guarantee patronage. He did not even have his favorite garment as it had been torn and soaked with blood to provide false evidence of his apparent death. Beloved, that may be your situation or you may be facing one or so similar challenges. It may be that you are ill‐equipped, or have been betrayed and abandoned by a loved one or partner and are at great loss as to how you can start out again. It may even be that you are in a foreign country with no sufficient knowledge of the culture norms of the nationals there but that is all surmountable if you submit to the wisdom of God. Joseph found himself promoted above Egyptian slaves in the house of his master Potiphar. As he paid heed to divine wisdom, he
manifested incredible skill and superior knowledge so much that the work of his master succeeded on account of him.
My freind, success is possible for all who submit to the knowledge of God. The incredible power He has deposited in the inside of us will operate in ones life unleashing success at a level previously unknown in such a life or by those who knew such a person. Joseph’s brothers had never themselves known that their little brother was able to bring household success in the way Potiphar got to observe and acknowledge. Your family may not have been aware of your potential but once you listen to God’s counsel you certainly have gone to a different league from the one they have always known you. As you beseech God for this wisdom, get ready to surprise family members. And if your family has been one of those with a list of past failures, you will be the beginning of a new success story that will change that testimony.
And just in case the devil wants to take the glory by considering that he is the source of your promotion, God will often raise the stakes to such a level that you and everyone observing will consider that all the glory is His. When the devil sought to cause Joseph succumb to him as though he owed him anything, Joseph used the same wisdom to resist him. He told the seductive adulteress wife of his master who wanted to sleep with him that he could not commit such a folly before the eyes of the Lord. He knew his source of prestige was not in
the hands of the devil but God. Although the woman sought to have him pay for his upright decision with a prison sentence, Joseph knew that this plan could not rob him of the blessing of divine wisdom he had.
Moreover, you need to understand that the devil cannot take
you away. They thought that by throwing Joseph in prison they
were taking him away. Beloved, no one can take you away once the Lord’s wisdom is operating in your life. In fact, wherever they think they are sending you God will turn their counsel to your service. Soon the enemy will realize that
rather than take you away he actually brought you closer to your destiny than he realized. As in the case of Joseph where
God turned his prison sentence to a pathway to the palace where he was made the Prime Minister of Egypt, God will always reward those who depend on His wisdom with an incredible end to their trials.
Divine wisdom will operate the grace of God in your life. Joseph experienced this grace in exile, as a slave, in prison, and before Pharaoh. He was able to solve Pharaoh’s intractable dream before a counsel of elders and wise men that had failed. God will always set a problem that only those who pay heed to His voice can solve. Did you know that there are problems that
only God can solve? Listen to His voice and you will be one of
those people the world will rely upon to resolve what are often intractable problems; problems that have failed everyone. At
these points, the reward of a life submitted to the counsel of God will compensate for all the trials you have gone to. Although initially, functioning in this wisdom will have testing circumstances do not give up. The time will come when God will promote you before everyone. What may have been scorned by many in the beginning will soon be esteemed before many. Pharaoh, observed at the dismay of all his counselors (including Potiphar) that there was no one in the whole of Egypt that had such wisdom as was manifest in Joseph. Beloved, God will reward you incredibly for listening to His voice and paying heed to His wisdom. It is amazing that the results of the life long experience of divine wisdom allowed Joseph to exercise the anointing in him in such varied levels of skill that involved political leadership, food security, migration, and minority support. God used Joseph to exercise governing skills that improved Egypt, provided for the world, including saving his own family.
Others like Joseph in the Holy Scriptures include Jacob who saw the wisdom of God cause him to succeed against the exploitation of his uncle Laban; Isaac, Jacob’s father, who by the wisdom of God became so blessed as to become richer than the nation of Philistine where he was an economic refugee; Daniel whose testimony on account of ministering the wisdom of God made him a prophet to the nation of Israel in exile and a Prime Minister for three successive regimes in the foreign land of Babylon. However, it is the testimony of King
Solomon that tells a most moving account of the benefit of divine wisdom in the Old Testament. When Solomon asked for it, God was so moved that He gave Him all things (1 King 3:5‐ 13). Beloved, I am convinced that divine wisdom is a master key to operating the anointing. Although Solomon was appointed King of Israel, he was humble enough to acknowledge that operating a kingly anointing required a sufficient kind of knowledge. This knowledge is divine wisdom.
However, the most amazing and telling account of the pivotal role divine wisdom has in operating the anointing, is the testimony of Jesus Christ. For one, He was the most anointed person to ever live. He was filled with the Holy Spirit beyond measure (John 3:34). Yet a careful study of his ministry and life bears the evidence of divine wisdom in several regards. As early as the age of twelve we are shown how He was already manifesting such knowledge as to mesmerize the teachers and scribes. In fact, I wish to submit the revelation that before beginning His wonderful ministry Jesus prayed and studied to gain divine wisdom. He knew how necessary it was to have it so as to be able to operate in the incredible anointing that he gained once the Holy Spirit descended upon Him. The result was a mighty move of God such as had never been seen in Judea and Jerusalem. Even, His most vicious critics were able to admit that He was wise beyond explanation (John 7:14‐15) and were equally astonished at how He ministered the anointing in such ways as they had never witnessed before and
they wondered whether any one would ever do greater miracles than He did (John 7:31). The same pattern can be seen in His disciples. In fact before He sent them to minister, an opportunity that saw the operation of the anointing at levels that were as amazing as His, He had first imparted this divine wisdom in them. He had taught them, several times speaking to them plainly (Matthew 13:10‐23). He spent three years imparting this wisdom in them. This wisdom begins with the fear of God (Proverbs 9:10). He had taught them not to fear the one who can harm the body but the one who can get both body and soul and throw it in hell (Matthew 10:28). When you fear God above everything, you will be bold to work His works. That is why when Peter and John were prohibited to minister in the Name of Jesus they questioned the Sanhedrin whether it was wise to fear men and disobey God (Acts 4:7‐ 20). In all the years that I have ministered in the anointing in a ministry that has witnessed miracles, signs and wonders, I have been persecuted and scorned for doing the works of God. Sometimes by those outside the body of Christ but many times by believers who should know better but who, for lack of divine wisdom have failed to operate the anointing and would not have any do so. I have been doubted by Pastors, criticized by Bishops, ridiculed by graduates of Theology who have questioned the wisdom of God. Some, like the Pharisees, have
persecuted those who operate the anointing thinking that they are doing God a service.
Should we relent to these skeptics? No! A thousand times no! We are duty bound according to the wisdom of God to perform His works. It is the fool who does not believe (Psalm 14:1) but the Master said if we believe we too shall do these works, even greater works than He did (John 14:12). The only reason why many do not is because they refuse to seek the Lord for His wisdom which should enable them to operate the anointing that may indeed be in their lives. Beloved, let Christ reign as wisdom to you and you will see the works of God on a regular basis.
USEFUL AND FRUITFUL Whatever God gives you He expects that you should use it. He is not patient with waste, negligence or importunity. He will not have any of it and has in fact appointed a day when all have to account for the opportunities He gave each and every one of us. This is the Day of Judgment and just for your information, this judgment begins in the House of God. What
are you doing with the anointing that God has put in your life? Have you put it to use? Do you realize that God gave it to you in order to accomplish an assignment? One day, you will have
to account for what you did with the anointing.
Operating the anointing is a most vital necessity for both the world and the Church today. The world needs to witness the results of the anointing because for most of them believing on God without any evidence is impossible. Many will believe because of witnessing the results of the anointing. Operating the anointing offers many who do not believe an opportunity to witness the works of God. For many, it is a chance to be ministered to personally by a God hitherto estranged by years of false religion. Ministering in Africa where many people survive on minimal provisions unable to get professional medical service and seek witch craft not out of choice but necessity, I have seen the anointing heal people that were hopeless. I am glad for the benefit of operating the anointing. I am reminded of a woman who came to one of my meetings in Africa with a child with two sexes. She asked me to pray that one of the sexes would disappear. I told her to go check in the restroom and that the sex she did not like would have disappeared. This lady had no help. She was so poor and could not afford to take the child for an operation. And yet by reason of the anointing the other sex disappeared. The lady begun to scream right from the restroom because the female genitalia had disappeared!
My friend, there are many in this world, that in ignorance some have called God‐forsaken, but in truth the anointing in your life is all they need to make it. If you do not operate that anointing they die for nothing. Like Joseph, the time has come for you to come out of your prison cell of fear, doubt, anxiety and foolishness and save a world only we can save in the Mighty Name of Jesus by reason of the anointing. Someone in your family, in your neighborhood, in your office, in your school, wherever, whosoever, is awaiting you to operate the gift of the anointing in your life. It is for this reason that Jesus said we are the light of the world. Again He said that we are the salt of the world (Matthew 5:13‐16). Yet, we must not take it lightly that He warned us that if the salt looses its saltiness then it is better thrown out and trampled on. I wish to submit that the reason why the church is so often trampled on is simply because we have not allowed our salt to operate in the world.
If the Church is going to move from being trampled to actually
triumphing over the world then it should operate the
anointing. The scriptures declare that your gift shall make room for you (Proverbs 18: 16). God has given this world to us. We shall dominate it by reason of the anointed One and His anointing. The Holy Spirit is the greatest gift of all and operating the anointing offers the greatest opportunity of all. I believe the word when it declares that whatsoever is born of
God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4). We are born of God in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit and we overcome the world by operating the anointing he imparts in our lives. The Church needs to operate the anointing or risk being damned both in this world and in the world to come. The tree that does not bear fruit shall be thrown in the fire (John 15:6). As such, operating in the anointing is not only a prerequisite for action, promotion, prosperity, and protection but is also a means of making sure our salvation.
