There may be times when you’d like to update a query to reflect new conditions or copy an existing query and modify the new query for other uses. You can open a query, examine it to see if it’s suitable, and then use the Save As function to save it with a new name.

To update an existing query:

34. Select the link for the query you want to open.

35. Select Save As from the bottom of the Record page.

36. Enter the new information for the query on the Properties page.

37. Click Save.

Running a Query

Using Query Designer to run your queries from a browser is as simple as clicking a link in your browser. Using the new functionality of PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, even the most inexperienced users can run queries in an environment that is familiar and easy to use.

Select PeopleTools, Query Designer, Use, Run Query from the menu or select the Run Query link from the pages that you use to create a query. If you run a query from within the Create Query pages, you must remember to save your query after you create it before you can run it

successfully.

Query Designer displays only the queries that you have security to run. To run a predefined query using the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture:

Run page

In many cases, you will have many more queries than can be displayed on the screen.

Selecting View All will cause all of your queries to be displayed on the page, and will require you to scroll through a very long list. The easiest way to find a specific record is to select Find from the Navigation bar. The Find link will start your browser’s Find utility where you can enter a search string and locate the record that you need.

39. If you know the name of the query you want to run, select Find and type the name of the query.

You can also enter a portion of the query name to narrow your search. In this example, we’ve searched for queries that begin with PERSONAL.

You have the option of downloading your query as an Excel spreadsheet. Click the text an Excel Spreadsheet to open the file in your browser in Excel. If you are using Excel 2000, the Excel spreadsheet will appear in your browser. To save it, select File, Save As. If you are using Office 97, the File download dialog box appears. You have the choice of opening the file in your browser or saving it to disk.
