About the Division:
To foster the requirements of contemporary legal education, the Gujarat National Law University’s Research and Publication Division had undertaken several research activities like various research projects and endowed research programmes, publishing research outputs through various modes like books, articles, columns, research publications, group publications, in-house publications etc. The Division also promote students involvement in scientific legal research through its Student Research Development Council (SRDC) in line with the best practices prevailing in the other law schools of the world.
Presently, the University has twelve Centres of excellence and ten endowments, which are aligned with the Centres, headed by faculty members, under the supervision of the research division, undertaking research in important, evolving and niche areas of law. The maturity of the Centre activities is reflected in their important outreach and policy impact. The division oversees the four University Journals along with the University publications, an OUP publication being the most recent one.
Objectives:
• To develop Research Culture amongst the faculty members and students;
• To develop scientific research in contemporary areas in law and interdisciplinary studies;
• To ensure that the research activities of the Division carry forward the University's objective to become a true Research-based Teaching University;
• To work in close proximity with the endowment Agencies, Policymakers, Government Departments and Private and Public Sector;
• To promote, develop, manage and assess various Endowed Research Programmes run by the University. The Gujarat National Law University has always taken proactive initiatives and outlook to provide valuable and mutually beneficial services to various stakeholders in the society. In pursuance of the same, GNLU pursuing several research projects under the kind grant received from State and Central Government. The objective of these research projects is to identify and bring to the forefront the lacunae in the existing regulatory as well as social structures and thereafter suggest ways to bridge the gap.
Research Cadre and their Initiatives and Achievements:
With an aim to conduct inter-disciplinary research, the University has specialized Research Cadre to conduct only research activities. Presently, there are total fifteen (15) dedicated research faculty specialized in inter- disciplinary research. These 15 members include two Chair Professors, four Assistant Professors- Research, four Research Associates and five Teaching and Research Associates. The primary aim of the members is to make the University a known face in the area of research output and excellence. The cadre is headed by Dean, Research and Publication Division. Leveraging both internally developed and university sourced research, cadre goes beyond to develop the next generation of research and discovery tool. Cadre’s core of research team provides interdisciplinary research expertise with a sense of accountability of policy-making bodies, doctrinal and empirical research, uplifting faculty and the learning community at large.
