User should be configured in LDAP-Active Directory or should have an account on the server machine where the Propalms VDI – Connection Broker is installed.

User can get the machine in 3 ways:

1. User is added as a Client in the Propalms VDI Management Console.

2. User is a member of a Group/Organizational Unit in the Propalms VDI Management Console.

3. Machine is added as a device in the Propalms VDI Management Console. In this case the Desktop is given to the machine and not to the user who has logged in, but the credential of the user are checked for the validation.

NB: If during the logging in time it is found out that the machine from which the user is logging in added as a device then it is given a “Higher Priority”. If the Machine is not added as a device then it checks for the rest.

USER IS ADDED AS A CLIENT IN THE PROPALMS VDI MANAGEMENT CONSOLE.

First Time login and is a Persistent Client.

1. If the administrator has assigned a Desktop for that Client, the Client will be given the same. 2. If no Desktop is assigned to that Client, Desktop Pools are selected for that Client.

3. If Desktop Pools are found for the Client, a Desktop is found among those Desktop Pools for the Client. 4. If the Desktop is found the Client is given that Desktop and that Desktop is assigned permanently to that

Client.

5. If No Desktops are available for the Client/No Desktop Pools were found for the Client in the 1st step, the Broker will try to find a temporary machine available for that Client.

6. If a temporary Desktop is found, the Client is given the same.

7. Otherwise, the broker returns with an error saying No Managed Desktops found. Subsequent Login and is a Persistent Client.

1. Client will be provided the same machine it was allocated on first logon.

2. If the assigned Desktop is not available for the user at that time, the user is given a temporary machine for the time being.

3. Otherwise, all the steps (except the 1st) of the Client logging in for 1st time are repeated. Client logging in and is a Temporary Client.

1. Desktop Pools are selected for that Client.

2. If Desktop Pools are found for the Client, a Desktop is found among those Desktop Pools for the Client. 3. If the temporary Desktop is found, the Client is given the same.

USER IS A MEMBER OF A GROUP/OU IN THE PROPALMS VDI MANAGEMENT CONSOLE.

First Time login

1. In this case the broker will try to find out to which groups the user belongs to and out of those groups which groups are added in the Propalms VDI Management Console.

2. If some groups are added in the configuration. The broker will try to find Desktops for all the Clients (groups added in the Configuration), which also depends upon the Persistence type of the each Client. 3. Now all the Clients from which the Desktops can be given to the user are shown.

4. The user now selects the Client and a Desktop from that Client is assigned to that user.

5. If no groups were added in the configuration for that user. The Broker tries to find out if the OU to which the user belongs is added in the Configuration.

6. If it is added it’ll try to find out the Desktop for that Client (OU in this case) and give it to the Client. 7. Otherwise, the user is given an error saying No Managed Desktops Found.

Subsequent Login

1. If the user is assigned a Desktop during the 1st login time it’ll be given the same machine.

2. If the assigned Desktop is not available for the user at that time, the user is given a temporary machine for the time being.

3. Otherwise, all the steps of the user logging in for 1st time are repeated.

MACHINE IS ADDED AS A DEVICE IN THE PROPALMS VDI MANAGEMENT CONSOLE.

First Time login

1. The Broker will find out all the Devices to which the machine belongs. 2. Now Desktops for each of the Clients (Devices in this case) is found out.

3. And the list of the Clients is shown to the user from which the Desktops can be assigned.

4. After the user selects the Client, Desktop is assigned to that Machine from that Client and give to it. 5. If no Desktop is found for any of the Clients. The Broker will fall back and try to find some temporary

machine for that client.

6. If again no Desktop is found, the Broker returns an error saying No Managed Desktop found.

Subsequent Login

1. The Desktop assigned to the Machine is returned.

2. If the assigned Desktop is not available for the user at that time, the user is given a temporary machine for the time being.

VDI LICENSING

The Propalms VDI solution ships with a system default license valid for 10 users/virtual machines for 30 days. If you have requested an extended evaluation license or purchased a production license you will receive a serial number from Propalms.
