2.11 ESTUDIO AMBIENTAL

1. Administrative Services Credential, Special Education Credential. 2. Master's degrees in School Administration and Special Education.

3. Minimum three years successful experience as an elementary school teacher. 4. Experience as an elementary school administrator preferred.

Term of Contract: 215 Days

Supervises:

All elementary school certified and support staff on site as well as the RSP, SDC teachers on all sites, special education instructional assistants on all sites, speech and language therapists, school psychologists, occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant and special education secretary.

General Description – Director of Special Education:

As Director of Special Education the successful candidate will be responsible for the administration and supervision of the educational programs for students with exceptional needs in the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District. The Director will see that students with exceptional needs will experience special program planning including parent participation, interaction in the general school program and on going reassessment.

The Director of Special Education is directly responsible to the Superintendent. The Director is responsible for the certificated and classified personnel assigned to the Student Special Education Department.

The Director of Special Education will maintain the appropriate student data for the California Department of Education utilizing CASEMIS software.

The Director of Special Education will represent the District in all SELPA functions as well as representing the District in mediations and hearings before the Special Education Hearing Office.

General Description – Principal’s Duties:

Implements the administration, supervision and evaluation of all programs and activities, curricular and co-curricular, within his/her building in accordance with Board of Education policy.

Performance Responsibilities:

A. Leadership - Curriculum and Instruction:

1. Develops and implements a mission statement consistent with that of the district.

2. Assists in the development, evaluation and revision of the curriculum. 3. Provides instructional leadership for the building in cooperation with the appropriate central office administrator, participates in the development of district-wide and building level curriculum projects and improvement.

4. Assumes responsibility for the supervision of programs and improvement of instruction within the school.

5. Promotes curriculum improvement and insures that instructional programs and courses are implemented consistent with building and district objectives.

6. Organizes and coordinates inservice activities for staff.

7. Works constructively in securing staff involvement and support for the development and implementation of instructional changes.

8. Keeps informed and up to date regarding new developments in curriculum, instruction and administration (i.e. workshops, meetings, credited classes, etc.). B. Administration and Organization:

1. Directs the planning of all aspects of instruction including all types of

scheduling, registration of students and the development of a master schedule. 2. Coordinates the scheduling, assigning and placing of students into the appropriate programs in the school.

3. Monitors lesson plans to insure compliance with state and board of education standards.

4. Maintains appropriate records and submits accurate and timely reports to the district central office.

5. Supervises the maintenance of the physical plant and equipment. Sees to it that the school environment is clean and attractive.

6. Manages school office functions.

7. Plans, organizes and directs implementation of all school activities. 8. Is concerned with the general welfare of the school district.

9. Interprets Board of Education policies and central office procedures to staff, represents staff concerns and needs affecting the operation of the school to the central office.

10. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observances of all board of education policies and administrative procedures.

11. Maintains consistent lines of communication with the Superintendent and other administrators, making them aware of existing and potential problems. 12. Maintains a system of teacher, pupil and staff records.

13. Maintains a staff handbook.

14. Prepares a student-parent handbook which includes the code of conduct. 15. Makes recommendations in the selection of staff assigned to the school. 16. Supervises and evaluates certified and non-certified personnel assigned to the school.

17. Makes recommendations to the Superintendent regarding teacher selection, transfer, dismissal and tenure.

18. Conducts staff meetings to keep staff members informed of policy changes and new programs and promotes inservice and professional growth of assigned staff personnel.

19. Develops a climate within the school which gives support to the staff members and causes them to feel successful and to identify with the school effort.

20. Develops and conducts a planned orientation program to introduce new personnel to the school and continues special assistance for them during their

21. Provides inservice activities and other activities for staff development. 22. Involves staff in the identification of goals and activities necessary for professional growth.

23. Assumes overall responsibility for staff assignments and schedules within the building.

24. Assumes responsibility for the proper reception, instruction and appraisal of substitute teachers assigned to the building.

25. Coordinates and supervises a guidance program including, educational and personal guidance, counseling and insuring student awareness of available services.

26. Coordinates and supervises the building testing program.

27. Approves teacher attendance such as sick leave, personal leave and professional leave.

28. Attends and supervises school-related activities.

29. Assigns teachers to grade levels and rooms with the approval of the Superintendent.

30. Develops class lists. Assigns new students to classes.

31. Establish, articulate and monitor appropriate safety procedures including fire drills, tornado drills, playground arrival and dismissal, and adults in the building. 32. Write monthly parent newsletters and additional notes as needed.

Pupil Personnel:

1. Establishes rules and sets the tone for student discipline in keeping with district

philosophy, policies and current school law.

2. Maintains communication with the student body in ways appropriate to the various

age and maturity level of the students and is familiar with the age level characteristics of the students.

3. Enforces the discipline code consistently.

4. Makes sound disciplinary judgments related to student problems, provides due process to students and communicates with parents when necessary.

5. Assumes responsibility for student attendance.

6. Assumes responsibility for security and pupil safety within the building: develops

procedures designed to project and enhance safety of students and staff and to promote the security of property and equipment.

7. Responsible for the classification, promotion and retention of students within the

school in compliance with school district policies and procedures. 8. Makes referrals to appropriate courts and agencies as needed.

9. Formulates regulations consistent with district transportation policies that insure

pupil control and safety as it relates to students transported by car and bus. 10. Develops an orientation program for all new students.

11. Prepares a transition program for 5th graders prior to entering the middle school.

12. Assumes overall responsibility for student assignments and schedules. 13. Supervises and coordinates all student activities to include school related activities

14. Assumes responsibility for field trip assignments and permission to take such trips.

15. Follows state policies and procedures that provide for the identification, evaluation

and placement of all students with disabilities.

Financial and Business Management

1. Keeps accurate and up to date inventories of supplies and equipment of the school.

2. Responsible for requisitioning supplies, textbooks, instructional equipment and all

materials necessary to the operation of the school.

3. Follows district policies and procedures relative to the use of public funds and property.

4. Makes recommendations regarding personnel, space, material and equipment needs.

5. Monitors all activity accounts and fund raising activities.

6. Proposes a building budget and assumes responsibility for administering the approved budget.

7. Works cooperatively with the treasurer regarding accurate records, purchase order

processing and other related fiscal matters.

8. Assumes responsibility for signing all contracts and purchase orders involving elementary school commitments and purchases.

Additional Duties

1. Maintains good public relations with the community and utilizes fully the community resources to enrich the learning program.

2. Communicates frequently and effectively through newsletters, bulletins, informational meetings and the school handbook. Informs patrons about school events and policies.

3. Encourages teacher and parent participation in school related organizations and

activities.

4. Is supportive of school/community organizations.

5. Represents the school to outside groups as appropriate. 6. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Additional Working Conditions

1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions. 3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.

Recommended Qualifications:

• Appropriate California Administrative Credential.

• Masters Degree plus 3 years of district office experience or comparable experience with major responsibilities in instruction and/or special projects. • Experience in a unified school district or comparable experience in working successfully with high school as well as elementary instructional and behavioral intervention.

• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary standards-based instructional practices, grades K-12.

• Demonstrated knowledge and specialization in the area of special education.

• Demonstrated knowledge of categorical programs, No Child Left Behind legislation, Title I, English Language Learners, Title II, IDEA, School

Improvement, GATE, and other categorical programs.

Essential Job Functions:

• Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines.

• Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
